Amazing to me that TC has time for this when it takes 4 months to hear back on medicals. This country's government is totally useless and could be replaced at 1/100 the price.
So I've done a little studying before picking my flight course. Is the fuel cap for Ultralights still 5 gallons ? Or is there a way around this ? I really want to be able to use my aircraft for longer, remote camping trips.
I know this may not be true in Canada but I see a lot of older pilots wanting to get into LSA and sport pilot license if they feel they are getting close to not being able to pass the biannual medical but have no problem getting their DL renewed for years to come at the DMV. In that regard, this rule will affect all pilots.
In Australia, you need a license for everything. And I want that to change for some ultralight aircraft. Maybe ones that have a 24 not stall or less, 300 kg or less, two seats or less, some of those criteria. I like far part 103. I feel like the Americans have the best idea for ultralight aircraft.
Why can Transport Canada not bring regulations in line with the US LSA standards? With the new US Mosaic Rules possibly coming into force it would bring more freedom to pilots, for instance allowing instructors to sign-off for night flying, and a much greater variety of aircraft that one could fly.
I've been asking this for a long time. The answer lies in an organisation which has so much inertia, change becomes like moving a mountain. There is a lot of benefit if TC would simply adopt a new Light Sport category in Canada to mirror what's in the US while still keeping their cherished Basic UL and Advanced UL categories.

Wow.. already "closed to new submissions" seems really shady the way theyre slipping this through to be honest. 😂 New regulations like this are going to make the pilot shortage situation even worst since this will affect newer pilots ability to fly far more than experienced veterans. Its very concerning how little they seem to care.
First our guns, now our planes. From lawful use to overpriced paperweight. Disappointing. Sending feedback immediately. Thank you for the heads up Edit: I thought it was the 6th :( hopefully you helped spread the message enough to save us from these pointless classification changes
I hate to bring it up, but as I don't live in Canada and with the current government in Canada, I will hopefully never enter Canada again. With that being said, and the way the current government has handled everything else, ya'll are probably lucky they haven't banned all aircraft that isn't electric. I'm very sorry for ya'll and the restrictions the government, for no valid reason, is trying to shutdown the private aircraft and general aviation. You have my sympathy, and I hope ya'll can get this action stopped. Good luck, my friend.
Really? What evidence do you have that the government is trying to "shutdown the private aircraft..."? Just one objectively verified shred, something, somewhere....
The rules were written, ultralights require an ultralight permit to fly. If you want to fly a C-Gxxx or a C-Fxxx then You must have a PPL or better. It’s really quite simple. I have no sympathy for a person complaining because they don’t have the correct license for the aircraft.
Well you are partially correct in your assessment when you state "The rules were written" - CARS states that any aircraft that meets the definition of an ultralight re number of seats, MTOW, minimum stall speed may be flown daytime VFR by individuals holding a Pilot Permit - Ultralight. The problem arises from an attempt to change the rules to define an Ultralight not by its flight characteristics but by its Registration. Many vintage aircraft such as the Aeronca Chief and Champ, some Taylorcraft models although designed as certified aircraft fit the definition of Ultralight today. In addition many early Advanced Ultralights were registered with "G" and "F" to distinguish them from Basic Ultralights. Should pilots and owners no longer be able to fly these aircraft simply because TC arbitrarily decided to change the definition?
You have it backwards. Folks flying their CG or CF registered aircraft -that fit the CURRENT u/l definition- and have a u/l permit are flying legally TODAY. Tomorrow, under the new rules, it will be illegal for them to fly that very same aircraft. You've no sympathy for someone that spent thousands of dollars (or hours+$$ of building) and followed the rules for their dream plane only to have the rug pulled from under them like this?
I had an American Aerolights Eagle in the early '80s No registration. around 1984 (I think it was around then) the government created the C-Ixxx for ultralight aircraft. then they brought in pilot certification for that class. It was a very basic requirement to be able to fly that class of airplane. And that is where it should have stayed. Ultralight is a C-Ixxx. If you wanted to fly a C-Fxxx or C-Gxxx then get a PPL, Yes the training is more intense, takes longer and costs way more. However, you can fly family and friends about and enter control zones. Ultralight pilots who register their aircraft as C-G or C-F should have to upgrade their license for that type of aircraft or alternatively, change the registration to a C-Ixxx to then comply as an ultralight pilot. @@PeteMoss1021
Have a look at the "Special Certificate of Airworthiness" it is NOT an EXPERIMENTAL it is an "Amateur Built" look and see what box is checked. There is no category for this type of aircraft in Canada referred to as experimental, that is an American category not Canadian. Stop confusing Canadian and American regulations. There I feel better now.
I'm up in Canada, (as the title of the video subtly implies) and we have different rules for Ultra-lights here. Lots of good info in the video about that if you'd like to learn more.
The ultralight class in Canada already has to have a pilot certificate to fly. It's 1,200 lbs, not 254 like the U.S. part 103. They just want to change some airplane classes that will put the licensed ultralight pilots out of their plane's class rating so they'd have to upgrade their license in order to fly the plane they've already legally been flying. Also, it isn't about laziness for most people. It's the cost and time. It's already roughly 10k to get certified in ultralight in Canada, another 10k for ppl. Takes another 30 hours or so, so months basically.
@@twistedpixel2558not $10k for UL permit geez.. $1200 maybe...but yeah, pretty pricey for private license. I wonder why TC feels they need to make this change.
@mr-uc4me I couldn't remember how many hours it was in ultralight in Canada to get certified. I was thinking 20 hours or so to best of recollection but I didn't look it up. Rates are high anymore, so I rounded up. In the U.S. it's 20k to get your ppl, and that's just an average. If everything doesn't go swimmingly it can be higher than that.
@@twistedpixel2558 10hrs flight time + ground school. Was around $600 for me early 2000s, but was in my plane so half cost.... it seems my guesstimate way out of date and you were right - just looked up cost for UL permit from a flight school - that's crazy!!

Wow.. already "closed to new submissions" seems really shady the way theyre slipping this through to be honest. 😂 New regulations like this are going to make the pilot shortage situation even worst since this will affect newer pilots ability to fly far more than experienced veterans. Its very concerning how little they seem to care.
Transport Canada note what Buffalo think about them
That's government being government.
First our guns, now our planes. From lawful use to overpriced paperweight. Disappointing. Sending feedback immediately. Thank you for the heads up
Edit: I thought it was the 6th :( hopefully you helped spread the message enough to save us from these pointless classification changes
Don't give them ideas!
With what Canada has become, I'm certain the new rules are as intended & the limitations are intentionally draconian.
Canada home of the.......
Government rules make little sense.
Especially when there is no effort made to enquire as to the mischief the rule is intended to remedy? Do you know the mischief at issue here?
@@bwest-s1w Please enlighten me.
Soon the it will change as in USA,,,,,,,,,
Change the rules for everything C21
Have a look at the "Special Certificate of Airworthiness" it is NOT an EXPERIMENTAL it is an "Amateur Built" look and see what box is checked. There is no category for this type of aircraft in Canada referred to as experimental, that is an American category not Canadian. Stop confusing Canadian and American regulations. There I feel better now.
Yes, I'm sorry, I misspoke. I live less than 10 miles from the US border and get their terminology confused with ours regularly.
That's not an ultra light. That's a light-sport.Get your shit right
I'm up in Canada, (as the title of the video subtly implies) and we have different rules for Ultra-lights here. Lots of good info in the video about that if you'd like to learn more.
You’re naive if you think it’s not malicious, it’s intentional and designed to restrict.
Look up the definition of malicious. Who and what is it designed to restrict and for what reason? Perhaps you should find these answers.
Jesus, just get a pilots license. It's just laziness if you don't.
It’s not laziness, it’s dollars. We have a pilots license, but a different class.
