I loved Space Fantasy in its original form but have never experienced its VR overlays including Attack of the Titans, Final Fantasy, Doraemon, Evangelion and currently Demon Slayer. These overlays usually generate long queues for its novelty and fan appeal, consistently surpassing the usual wait times (up to 4 hours).
I love learning about the international parks and their rides. It’s sad to know ET only exists in Orlando now, but this looks like an interesting replacement (albeit even more trippy lol).
Japan always seems to make some of the most interesting attractions. I'd love to see something like this applied to some rides at Disneyland/World and Universal Hollywood/Orlando. Disney could use the base setup for something Marvel-themed, then switch to a VR overlay for seasonal attractions like Star Wars Month or Halloween. Universal could use this for a tweaked/modernized Back to the Future ride and VR overlays for other seasonal themes.
Great Documentary of a fun ride. I was one of the designers on the project and it's great to re-live part of the journey in your video. Thanks for the nostagic ride.
It's kind of sad to see how every overlay removes an aspect of the ride ( the spinning, in this case ) but for something like Evangelion I could see how it would have to be on "rails" and facing forward. A lot of us English speakers know what Evangelion is, it's worthy of a ride.
Thank you so much for covering this ride! When I went to USJ in 2011, Space Fantasy was by far my favorite ride, but since it's such an obscure Japan-only attraction, it's hardly ever covered by theme park channels. I was learning Japanese by the time I went but I wasn't fluent enough to follow any dialogue, so I had to ask the person who took me (who's Japanese and much better with English than I was with Japanese) what the story of the ride was.
I rode this when I went. Didn’t speak a word of Japanese but I understood the restarting the sun storyline from the queue videos. Did not understand that there were interactive elements. The pacing is a bit weird due to all the lift hills but I enjoyed the ride. I managed to lose the locker key and had to ask a team member to help.
I liked this video! I felt that the ride's random move and the interior darkness were like those of Crush's Coaster of Walt Disney Studios at Disneyland Paris. I'm curious how you compare them. BTW, I'm a native Japanese speaker and your translation of the preshow sounds perfect
Thank you for translating the Japanese!! It's one of my favourite rides at USJ. I had to wait two hours to ride it with the Demon Slayer overlay... No spinning, but I got dizzy from the VR!! It will revert back to the original version in February 2022.
I was there about 5 years ago and went on it 5 times in a row. Was a quiet day. Knew nothing about it and just went in to see what it was. Your comment re a fever dream is perfect. I had no idea we were meant to press a red button! The reason I kept re riding was because of that Sun section. The great sweeping ark of track as you spin through the most psychedelic experience ,of well ever, kept me going back. I have been to all the Universal and Disney parks but that ride was just out there and beyond. Ps. Love your passion and reviews.
Love your reviews! Am a huge fan of Disneysea, and you proved to me that I loved the correct park! Hope you might do a review on Universal Studios Singapore some day. It is nothing like USJ or TDR, but would be nice/interesting to hear what you have to say about it!
Seeing Snoopy at the Space Fantasy opening is like seeing Tweety Bird in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. You know it has to make sense because you're looking at it but it feels kinda off.
The only overlay I experienced was during halloween, it was themed to "the ring" (or "juon", i forget)... ANYWAYS, It was pitch black for most of it (which gave me motion sickness..) ...at the end ,where the sun is usually located, a sadoko mannequin was propped up in the center for the final scare. i miss ET to be honest..
I've desperately wanted Space Fantasy here in Orlando since I rode it over 10 years ago. Now, we have Guardians: Cosmic Rewind which is essentially the same ride but on steriods with less spinning.
Too bad it rarely ever runs as Space Fantasy, they always do the VR layovers or simply pitch black for HHN. At least the ending always seems to be active!
this ride makes me think of guardians of the galaxy: cosmic rewind at epcot since the vehicles have pivoting seats that are not entirely spun by gravity
I am a usj annual passholder and this is one of my favourite rides at usj! ( When it isn't being a vr coaster!) Anime collaborations can see the wait times reach 5, 6 hours which is kind of ridiculous!
"For an English speaker who doesn't know what Evangelion is, it can be even more confusing" On the one hand you saying the name wrong does indicate not knowing what it is, on the other I, knowing what it it, would probably find it pretty cool. Still, no idea that Cool Japan was involved with Universal Studios Japan, but then the only thing I am familiar with them is stuff they've been doing on this side of the Pacific in the form of assisting with anime and video game conventions, as well as purchasing a stake in Sentai Filmwork's, North America's second largest anime distributor.
Every year (except in the covid years!) They do many anime collaborations. One piece, sailor moon, attack on titan and conan are often around. Even this year there has been an 'unofficial' cool Japan and this coaster is currently kimetsu no yaiba themed!
I just rode the overlay of this ride now called The Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba XR Ride and WOW...it has shot right into one of my all time favorite rides. What an incredible experience it was and while the VR is not perfect, it still delivered an immersive experience like no other in both in the slow and fast moments. I had no idea what to expect and read VR coasters are awful but this one really really delivered. I hope we see more like this, especially these longer type rides.
We were there on an extremely busy day and still had no more then a 4 to 5 minute wait in single rider line. Don't remember much of the ride besdides it being really trippy and fun. Nothing high thrill but worth the 5 minute wait 😀
It’s almost like they wanted to make a super Mario Galaxy ride but didn’t have the license yet, they could easily convert it. With the space princess and little creatures. Even the purple comet looking thing on the lift hill is just like the bits you collect in the game.
We have known USJ’s Space Galaxy is that park’s equivalent of Space Mountain for over a decade! And now you report on this? Where have you been all this time?

This ride would be perfect for a mario galaxy theme if they ever bring it to the states.
I love learning about the international parks and their rides. It’s sad to know ET only exists in Orlando now, but this looks like an interesting replacement (albeit even more trippy lol).
Rumors say that Spielberg liked the ET ride so much that he threatened universal saying he'd never work with them again if it was gone one day
@@bluepancake1269 I 100% believe that!
its an interesting ride, but i prefer ET
They should bring this ride to Epic Universe
i agree 100% the last area the sun room is the most terrifying part of the ride! the lights and sound will shock you for seconds
I remember this from the podcast!!!
I’m one of the 329 who visited Eisner Pied!!! Best website ever

Ship their E.T. Adventure over here to Hollywood we’ll take it.
Hollywood used to have it. The mummy ride replaced it

Looking forward to Space Fantasy 2: Cosmic Rewind at Epcot.

Simply a crazy but interesting story... Thanks for sharing. :D

This is one ride I always avoid, if you get dizzy easily I wouldn’t recommend going on it! Somehow with the VR overlay it made the dizziness worse!

I love this ride! The best overlay, that I've seen, was the Evangelion overlay.
Loving the RCT3 menu music!
Love your content lately guys! Keep up the awesome work ☺️
Best documentary ever.

I had never heard of it prior to now
I loved E.T the ride!

The first-ever Mack spinner coaster used to be my favorite roller coaster. In the meantime, Euro Mir became a little rough...

If THIS replaced Hollywood's ET ride, I would have been a little happier! Our Mummy ride is so mediocre!
I’m watching one of you on the chase Australia!
This ride looks exciting!
I believe this ride had a Lupin III VR overlay at one point.
I got to experience Evangelion XR 1.01 and it was amazing. Worth the 1.5 hour wait. Flying Dinosaur is the most intense coaster in the world.
I missed every detail when I was on that ride years ago
I hame been in the Universal Studios in Osaka, Japan many time!!
If I ever go to Universal Studio Japan, I would definitely going to this ride
Good luck being able to ride it. We never got to ride the original because it always had the vr overlays lol.
We were there on an extremely busy day and still had no more then a 4 to 5 minute wait in single rider line. Don't remember much of the ride besdides it being really trippy and fun. Nothing high thrill but worth the 5 minute wait 😀
You should do a Video abouz the japanse godzilla rides please😍
The translations are perfect lol
This attraction is often change in several terms, as collaboration
Anyone get the feeling that this is exactly what Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind at Epcot will be like?
Dc rivials is the slowest cue. Once every 6 min or so. They save money by slowing time between runs
It’s almost like they wanted to make a super Mario Galaxy ride but didn’t have the license yet, they could easily convert it. With the space princess and little creatures. Even the purple comet looking thing on the lift hill is just like the bits you collect in the game.
Great channel
This looks very wacky like most things that come out of these Japanese theme parks, but it does look very impressive!
We have known USJ’s Space Galaxy is that park’s equivalent of Space Mountain for over a decade! And now you report on this? Where have you been all this time?
imagine riding this high
9:21 It sucks the life-force out of you like a Succubus???
Omg I want to get on it
Why is Snoopy there at the opening?
Universal... What is this???
Did anyone else notice the RCT3 music 👀
So thats the original ride for attack on titan and demon slayer ride
Ya but you also forgot the deranom? Movie overlay
The Chase Australia?
This ride would be trippier if you’ve taken a doobie hit beforehand.
I wouldn't get on that thing if someone were to put a gun to my head.
Why in the name of god would you replace ET,hope they dont replace it in orlando.
Evangelion!? 😱
aaaah...you changed the thumbnail :(
Where universal cool japan video
