Josh, as a guy with the natural born ability to do harsh vocals, and someone who's never even remotely struggled with it, I can say that your vocals are some of the most blood-curdling, gut-wrenching vocals I've ever heard. I'd put Josh Middleton at the top of the metal vocalists list for me, because I actually understand the difficulty of what it is that you do, and how actually hard it is. I seriously enjoy your ability to change pitch at such ridiculous levels, it's awesome. No other metal vocalist that I can name has as much range and over all vocal skill as you. The passion is also there, and I can just feel every bit of the emotion in every Sylosis song, and along with the musical precision, the vocals just stick to me. You're one of the greats, keep it up!
Yea his high screams are some of the best I've ever heard. Holy fuck that shriek just pierces and overloads your speakers and I absolutely love it. That's why Edge of the Earth is so impressive because he had such a short learning curve after not having a vocalist for about a year and then learning how to riff over the vocals too and the music got more technical so I still don't know how that man does it.
Dude, I've been having a lot of trouble with my screaming lately and my highs have always sounded pretty bad. I just tried thinking of it as a yell and then building on it like you said, and my diaphragm control became instantly so much better, and my highs have improved a lot as well. I've still got to work on it a bit, but I think this video is exactly what I needed. Thanks for the upload!
I can't agree with you more. that advice has helped me with singing and screaming both. sometimes you are too focused on putting the distortion on the vocals that you forget to put some voice into it. so it messes up the technique and is probably more unhealthy. and just like what josh said: when you think of it as yelling like in a construction zone or something, it forces you to use the right technique, and subconsciously forces you to use your diaphragm. Josh Middleton you are a smart guy. and a deep thinker just like me, I can tell.
its so cool how josh still responds to peoples comments even when his bamd got so big! btw ur vid helped me alot! thanks! im going to make a channel of my own (this is not mine, me and my little brother share one) for me to do covers on and this vid helped me touch up my screams
10 year old video but I'll throw my hat in here haha. So take what I'm about to say with a grain of salt, I'm not anywhere near a professional vocalist. But I've been listening to metal and hardcore for a big portion of my life and I've always been fascinated with the vocals. I managed to teach myself just from listening to songs when I'm driving by myself. The 2 biggest things I've found is using your diaphram (obviously), and finding the right volume. You can't half-ass screaming, but you can't try to over-do it either. You have to find a happy medium.
I know I'm late to the party but this was such a massive boost to my confidence and my persistence. to keep going. big fan, and more so since you became vocalist. keep pushing the envelope, thrash is back!
Cool man! Can I get an answer from you? Would you ever consider re-releasing Conclusion of an Age with you on vocals? Obviously it would be without disrespecting Jamie.
I could imagine Conclusion of an Age (the song) sounding completely different with Josh's low growl. It's already a solid song like but I think that would take it to the stratosphere
Well, that would be really difficult considering the songs weren't written to be screamed. As well as the new drummer would have quite an effect on the re-recording. It's surely possible but it would get in the way of touring and tracking whatever they come up with next
With trial and error you can find your voice. Also having a mic and speaker/headphones will help too. Warm milk and honey helps after burning out your vocals
Hey, i am now able to get a okayish growl/mid-scream but i simply cannot figure out how to save my air, i cant seem to get the scream out unless i reeally push out the air, but doing that im out of breath in like 2-3 sentences of a lyric, also can't sustain a scream long enough : / Any tips fellas?
my uncle and step dad are both professional vocal tutors.. This triggered them intensely.. IT SHOULD NEVER HURT IF YOU'RE DOING IT CORRECTLY AND YOU SHOULD NEVER TASTE BLOOD.. smh..
"might get the taste of blood in your mouth." thats one of the most metal things ive ever heard.

You’re one of my favorite vocalists of all time. Whenever I work on my vocals, I’m always turning to Sylosis!

Man, everything on this channel is pure gold!Useful and Informative, great work!
Ur voice cant get any better!:D Didnt like screams that much untill I heard fear the world, all is not well. Now I cant get enough! Best band ever!
Hey Josh, you're seriously a talented musician. Cheers man.
I thought the clean vocals on Mercy were the strongest and most confident sounding yet (for cleans)
I personally liked the ones from What dwells within the most
Diego Garza another amazing song
Josh you RULE!
dude This tutorials are so fucking nice! thank you very very much!
Both this and yesterday's guitar tutorial are actually very helpful. thank you! :D
i love you josh
Thank you Josh!
Thanks a bunch Josh, this really helped me with my vocals :D

Dude, I've been hoping for the same thing.

I just wanna hear a Teras redux. And Blackest Skyline.
Last Remaining Light would be epic to hear redone. With Bailey on guitar and Josh doing vocals, would sound so sick.
Well, that would be really difficult considering the songs weren't written to be screamed. As well as the new drummer would have quite an effect on the re-recording. It's surely possible but it would get in the way of touring and tracking whatever they come up with next
You can practice until your heart's content if you buy one of those Deadmau5 foam heads
Thank so much

Non Sylosis material in the future? Interesting! Still metal I take it?

Vocals for Non-Sylosis Content? Are you going to to something with Craig Reynolds? :O
scream in a pillow? lol but it works
Like your girlfriend just dumped you, lmfao. XD
