It's important to remember, NO FISH IS WORTH DYING FOR! While editing this video I realized we could all learn from Jacob's experience to make ourselves more educated about the dangers of wading rivers.

Great workout, Barry, dashing down there twice to net Jacob's fish. Jacob is young, and sure-footed, yet he had a come-to-Jesus moment at the top of the rapid. Fortunately, you didn't film his watery demise. He did catch 2 steelhead that defied the odds to be landed. I fished off an island on the Sol Duc that was very challenging to get down to, and even more so coming back up. But it was very productive. All in all, this turned out to be a very exciting video. "No steelheaders were harmed in the making of this video." Wow! Thanks!

sketchy where Jacob was fighting the first fish, but had no idea what that rapid looked like until I was reviewing footage. I’m certainly glad it was a ‘come to Jesus’ moment instead of a wild ride. You could tell how hard he fought that second fish to keep it in the top hole that he wasn’t going back in that fast water. I’ve had a few experiences like that, one was featured in ‘Steelhead Archives 2’ where I hooked a hot fish that got wrapped around a root wad, I tried to wade out to it in swift water and fell down, fortunately though, I quickly regained footing and got back to calmer water. Sometimes the fish are in tough spots, but again, no fish is worth dying for.

It was the craziest thing I’ve seen in steelheading! It’s a testament to the fishing line we use and its strength.

It looked sketchy from my perspective helping him land the fish, but I didn’t realize how sketchy until looking at the footage. It’s easy to get caught up in the moment while fighting a steelhead and take chances you normally wouldn’t while under the adrenaline rush these things create. 🎣
Yeah, that was definitely a little sketchy. Anyone can slip/ trip, evidenced by your broken reel, so I'm glad he managed not to make this his turn. He would have smashed himself on some rocks for sure. Thanks for sharing the tips. I just got some of those beads after watching other people having great luck. Thanks for sharing, and happy fishing.
Those egg clusters are great! The Mango color has also been producing for me, but those videos probably won’t be out until my ‘Steelhead December’ series. I’ll be switching gears to Springers / Bass / Kokanee real soon.
I know Elevated Fishing just came out with their soft okie drifter, I bet those will be great as well.
