Great vid. My only thing is that some people might get the impression that time is the sole determinate of gameness. An hour with Zebo wouldn’t be the same as an hour with Bolio.
Yeah i agree,it shows how intricate and multi faceted it is when you break it down and you have to get alot of things right just to have a chance of winning But you get one thing wrong and theres more than a good chance that you'll lose..
Gameness in a family of dogs is on a bell curve, and measured in percentages. What are the rankest curs of a family, how deeply game are the gamest ones, and how many good and bad ones overall? I've had great litters with a high percentage of proven game dogs and winners. I once had another litter from someone else's stud dog with 5 curs and a champion. As luck would have it, we kept the 5 curs and sold the champion as a pup for $300 to an enthusiastic young fancier. A lot of people would want something off that well known champion bitch, but wouldn't want something off an unknown old roll dog who has stopped several match prospects going over an hour coming from behind. Knowing the whole picture is the key. I wouldn't raise anything off that champion bitch because her littermates all folded quickly, even though the mother's side were reliable game dogs. As time has gone on, history has shown that popular stud dog of 20 years ago wasn't much of a producer. Moral of the story, stay with high percentage stock, and good data.
@richardgarciaschoolboy7746 Great topic and presentation Schoolboy. Hopefully, there are some young guys listening and making good decisions by learning from the mistakes and few successes we might have experienced.
@@richardgarciaschoolboy7746 even tho the new generation are here and some methods are different we must always remember the foundations laid by the "Men OF OLD"..I'm talking bout the great dog men that predate Feeley and Lightner and I'm go as far back as to say the very early 1800s..1805 to 1820 which is one decade earlier than the Queen ban in England of 1830 to 1835 I believe ..there were these dogs intact decades earlier and surely were at the least 50 to 75percent our Apbt we have today but the remaining genes most likely were a combination of other crosses into other terrier breeds some WE may never know about..the same way men like difderent blood to feed same thing back in early 1800s
What you think how catchweight Apbt or Staff are when matched vs Tosa,Bully,Volkodovs,Malakli in open tournaments without weight limits?Still the best?
@zeljakis817 It's rare that the weights are equal in those kinds of shows. The bigger dog has a big weight advantage but as far as skill and gameness no breed compares to the pit bull.
I believe dogs are emotional and they don't just drive and move off instinct ..they are far more intelligent than scientist claim and the Mind Of A Dog is essential to its overall performance meaning a dog can be depressed and lonely and sad and the mind influences the body!!

Question or topic Mr Garcia. Historically or if you had it to do all over again.... how many times would you breed a good female idealistically? And at what age and after how much is proven?
@kennethyoung1373 I generally bred my females from the ages of 2-5 years. That gives you 3 years of breeding and anywhere from 3-6 litters total. That was plenty for me because as I'm breeding a female I'm breeding her daughter or daughters at some point. Replacing the old with the new. If you breed her til she's 7 you'll get a couple more litters. Youngest I bred a female was 1 1/2 years old. Two sisters that were my breeding after 4 generations.
Truth of the matter is without the game ass roll that had no ability but were to game to put down became my brood stock there is never an excuse for putting a game dpg down that is the whole purpose of the breed no matter how good ot looks on paper if the individual is not it cant throw game because it is a dominant trait to be a cur gameness is an elusive trait even breeding two game dogs does not guarantegame dogs but it damn sure increases your chances and it is possible to get multiple game dogs from a litter or multiple curs it is a crapshoot
I would go to my protégé and get my blood back. If that wasn't available I'd get the best I possibly could regardless of what bloodline it was. Who has them and what they do with them matters more.
Gameness is the most important attribute there is no argument about that in my opinion, the clue is in the name 'Game dogs''Hi Richard do you post to the uk mate?thanks

Nice
I think more people believe they have a game dog than actually do have one. Hell everyone has one if you ask them. 😂
