I would have moved out the industry and commerce out of the island, alongside the ferry terminal, and left the entire island only for residential and with a lot of green areas, parks, recreational and other services (offices included)

You should totally do a city that is only large density residential housing. Have everything clustered together as small as possible. Design it like an hour Glass with mainly underground roads. I'd love to see that. I would love to be able to get the game myself, but watching you let's me enjoy it.
You actually don't need a highway connection for residents to move in, so those ferries you connected to the highway aren't necessary. Residential zones just get citizens, even without a highway connection, and so long as you have a cargo harbor your industrial will be able to get the raw goods it needs too. I learned this while trying to beat the Alpine Villages scenario.
Wish you had connected the subway to the ferry ports, as that would have help your city. You could have also expand the subway, to connect to the mainland.
It does actually matter which of the two curvy arcade things you put down, since they both count as distinct park buildings from each other (despite looking very similar from above), and park entertainment gets diminishing returns from repeat buildings. So if you have five different buildings that give 50 entertainment each, for instance, you might match or even exceed five of the same one that gives 100 each. It really does drop off sharply. Variety's key.
You are forgetting how high up the "camera" is. Think about when you're in a plane. All the cars look like they are toys or models. The roads that look short are actually probably extremely long, and the island is bigger than it seems, too.
This is a really awesome idea! I've only ever made one island city, and I made that one into the shape of a lobster. It survived well enough until I decided to decimate it with tsunamis and meteors...
Nice island but maybe add harbor for tourists and airfield to continent. Couple block to tourist commercial for hotels. Next experiment should be city with no flowing water, only farming lands and forests.

Hi All, i think the ferry is not a "intercity" connection like railway and airport is thus no people came from another city via the ferry. Maybe next time, open the first area and build as normal, then add a ferry. Next buy more squares and populate the island and make the ferry go from the original square #1 populated area to the newly opened area / island Regards George
