- Hi, we are Bec, Sam, Isabella & Euan. After selling our house in the UK & travelling Europe in a motorhome for 10 months, we have bought a derelict farm in Ireland. We are keen to try and live an off grid life, free from debt whilst bringing the farm back to its former glory. We are doing this on a very tight budget and plan on doing as much of the work ourselves.

Wow, I am impressed with what you both have accomplished. Your gates and fence look fantastic, I bet your neighbour is happy with your work so far. The kids seem happy.
I think they are. Sam did a neat job. We do need to touch up the gates as they have been rotting away on the ground for years but it looks good to me.

WOW Watching the rainbow build over the peak of the house was amazing as if telling you all you're doing an amazing job!
It was such a beautiful shot! I couldn't believe how nice it came out on camera. Sometimes things never seem as nice as with your own eyes, but I think this time it did the evening justice.

I really like how Sam stops for a brew instead of rushing things. We have started drinking Yorkshire tea since I started watching this channel. We like it cold and sweetened or hot. I'm from the USA, but my girls always say it with the same accent ya'll use! ❤ I loved the rainbow, also. Good omen!
That's so amazing! I love that you are drinking Yorkshire Tea! Wherever do you get it? We have run out of Yorkshire Tea sadly, and it's nigh on impossible to find here. We are now on Barry's, which is not too bad, to be honest. I quite like it, Sam is less keen! At least 3 brew breaks per day are vital. It's also a time to review progress and make life changing decisions 🤣

You guys and youngsters are doing tremendous job, the project is coming along and the children are learning and joining in, fantastic in this day and age, they will be so much more rounded later in life for the experiences gained. Looking at the next project, the replacement of the lintels made me smile, because it reminded me of a previous big influence in my restoration projects. He would comment on what were big concerns to me saying " An Ounce of fear/trepidation put together with a Pound of thought and planning and used with a Stone of effort and work, will save you a Ton of trouble" Sometimes it hurts both financially and time but he was right. I think you are doing the right thing, those wall sare fragile and the benefits of "Strip, rebuild as per need will deliver so much benefit and piece of mind. Crack on guys your heading the right way.
That's a good saying! We may be slow to some, but hopefully, that's what will 'win the race' at the end! 👍

Well done with the gates and fence. Rebuilding the walls above the lintels is the right decision, especially if you want to increase the height. You may have got away with strongboys if you were staying at the same level (from my huge You Tube building experience!!!). The hard work is paying off.

I think about those masons, in 1820, and I think they would be happy with what you are doing. I think your pointing is excellent, but if in doubt, go to French Farmhouse Diaries, where the queen of pointing lives. Different stone but same work and she has done a wonderful job.

While you may have already redone this wall to add the new lentils....before you remove the large stones from a wall...with assumption you plan to rebuild a section the way it was, even if raised a bit...mark or number the stones, so you don't have to remember which stone was where...then lay them out on the ground organized by your marks. When you are ready to reassemble, you'll still need to add your small stones, but you'll know what goes where. It will go faster!

Amazing work and patience, what you will find is when this project is near completion ( never truly complete) it will be your "journey" that will be the great reward to all. More than a home but memories, oh the grand memories. Slainte !
