Thanks a bunch. I though there was no noise gate included in pro tools first due to other forum comments. Then I saw this one comment. Thanks for the quick solution.

How come my Dyn3 Expander/Gate doesn't have a render button like yours?

likely because you are using it as an insert rather than as an Audiosuite plugin, try going to the Audiosuite menu and selecting it from there

I would never use a noise gate unless I were absolutely desperate. I don’t like it when the room ambience goes to absolutely nothing. Independent of the fact that you have the air conditioning running, it really changes the feel of the audio when the blank spaces go to zero. It basically sounds like the track is stopping at that point.
I wish noise gates had a level setting so that instead of taking whatever is below the threshold to zero, it would take it to a level that you set that is between the threshold and zero. That way, the editor could choose how much of the noise should be left in. When that noise is just typical room ambience, it sounds much better to leave that in even if it has to be lowered in volume a bit.
I would think there is a tool to do that but the gate is not the one.

      Hey Craig,
The expander/gate is actually the tool to do what you describe. That's the "Expander" portion of the plugin. What you are looking for is the "Ratio" setting, that will determine how much the signal is lowered when it falls below the threshold. Try playing around with that.
Here's how AVID describes it "The Ratio control sets the amount of expansion. For example, if this is set to 2:1, it will lower signals below the threshold by one half. At higher ratio levels the Expander/Gate functions like a gate by cutting off signals that fall below the threshold"
If the noise floor in your studio isn't low enough that you can use the tool as a gate without hearing a noticeable drop off, then it wouldn't be the proper use of the plugin, the best action in that case would be to either use the tool as an Expander, or lower the noise floor in your studio if possible. Hope this helps!

No problem - another option to deal with these sorts of issues are tools like iZotope's RX suite, specifically the "Voice De-Noise" tool, you can check that out as well.

@@voice-overroadmap2323 Fortunately, I have a very quiet studio but I do every so often get audio from another place that needs to be cleaned up. Thanks for the help.
