      likely because you are using it as an insert rather than as an Audiosuite plugin, try going to the Audiosuite menu and selecting it from there

    Awesome! When it's hard to find, I highlight and use analyze/plot-spectrum (in audacity). There will be a spiky high freq. that I can notch-filter out. That's useful because the click frequency can vary day to day.

    My issue is, these clicks happen right in the middle of some words. Still haven't figured out how to remove them apart from fading in/fading out where applicable, or re-recording. I don't know what cause that, no matter how much I research on the Internet!

    I would never use a noise gate unless I were absolutely desperate. I don’t like it when the room ambience goes to absolutely nothing. Independent of the fact that you have the air conditioning running, it really changes the feel of the audio when the blank spaces go to zero. It basically sounds like the track is stopping at that point. I wish noise gates had a level setting so that instead of taking whatever is below the threshold to zero, it would take it to a level that you set that is between the threshold and zero. That way, the editor could choose how much of the noise should be left in. When that noise is just typical room ambience, it sounds much better to leave that in even if it has to be lowered in volume a bit. I would think there is a tool to do that but the gate is not the one.

    • @voice-overroadmap2323
      @voice-overroadmap2323 5 лет назад

      Hey Craig, The expander/gate is actually the tool to do what you describe. That's the "Expander" portion of the plugin. What you are looking for is the "Ratio" setting, that will determine how much the signal is lowered when it falls below the threshold. Try playing around with that. Here's how AVID describes it "The Ratio control sets the amount of expansion. For example, if this is set to 2:1, it will lower signals below the threshold by one half. At higher ratio levels the Expander/Gate functions like a gate by cutting off signals that fall below the threshold" If the noise floor in your studio isn't low enough that you can use the tool as a gate without hearing a noticeable drop off, then it wouldn't be the proper use of the plugin, the best action in that case would be to either use the tool as an Expander, or lower the noise floor in your studio if possible. Hope this helps!

    What recording program/software is this? They are all slightly different aren't they? I use Audacity and wondering if the pencil trick is available in that....thinking of trying a new software such as garage band or Logic Pro.

    • @voice-overroadmap2323
      @voice-overroadmap2323 6 лет назад

      Hey Cybele, the software being used here is Pro Tools. But these techniques should be applicable in other software as well including Audacity. The deletion method will work in any software and if the click or noise is short enough, it should get the job done. You should also be able to use the pencil method in Audacity as well, there's more info on that here - manual.audacityteam.org/man/tutorial_click_and_pop_removal_techniques.html

      I'm on PT 11 here, and you do in fact need to zoom in pretty far to the waveform to make pencil edits. Are you referring to PT 12? It would be nice to be able to do pencil edits from a little further out, but chances are whatever you are editing is occurring in a pretty small span of time, so it makes sense to need to zoom in pretty close.

    One extremely important thing to know about using the Pencil Tool however - - it is DESTRUCTIVE editing. I found this out the hard way. Despite making a duplicate of the track I was editing, I discovered that any edits I did to the duplicate file were also applied to the original, and the changes were permanent. Fortunately the vocal track I was working on was recorded at a Pro Studio and they had a back up file.

    • @voice-overroadmap2323
      @voice-overroadmap2323 7 лет назад

      That's very true Perry - but there are ways around it to give yourself a safety net. If you do a Pencil edit on a piece of audio, it will apply it to every instance of that piece of audio, if you copied and pasted it on the same track, or if you duplicated the entire track with that audio on it. But if you make a mistake, you can always use the "Undo" feature to go back, and depending on your settings you can undo 10,15,20 times if you make a lot of pencil edits and then decide you don't want them. Another thing you can do, is before you start any pencil editing, export the file from your clip bin, or just bounce it out of Pro Tools without any processing, and name it something like "Audio File - Original Version" - then you can always re-import that back into your session if you need it because you made a mistake with your pencil edits.
