At Sams Club anytime something is on clearance the price always ends in a 1.

There's an app called Flipp that has almost all of the store fliers for you to see in one place. You can touch the items you want to buy and it will circle the item for you AND make a list for you from each individual store. Also it has a watch list that you can enter products so you always know when they're on sale. I love it!

Package Mushroom go by the Julian Date Calendar.
The tip about the frozen vegetables is spot on, and I have been using it for the last 13 months, because many times, the shipments of fresh vegetables don't always arrive on time when I am in the store for my once a week shopping trip. Thus, for many dishes, I head on over to the frozen food section.

well darn....... I just weighed the onion bag I purchased yesterday. There's 4.22 lbs inside this 5lb bag! I will always weigh going forward! Thanks Matt! Appreciate all the advice.
Wow! I’m buying myself a Luggage Scale to test the weights so I buy the best bargain, too!
You forgot the most important tips of all: don’t be nasty to the cashier if a price doesn’t come up right. They do not memorize prices. They simply scan the item and collect the payment. A little kindness goes a long way and in light of COVID many grocery stores are understaffed and overworked.
PS. Put the cart back!
I agree!
If it doesn't scan I always tease "if it don't scan, free." Never works though, they always get it .

I was next in line to check out a couple days ago. The guy in front of me literally left his cart at the register and walked away smh some people are just grown children
E Swon i totally 💯 agree with you I work @ a Carl’s Jr. & man I be getting the MOST UNGRATEFUL & MEAN customers!! Be a lil more kind pls
Also look at the clearance racks at the back of the store. Lots of good stuff there
I worked at Kroger many moons ago, and my kids are always amazed that I still remember the codes on produce!
Awesome video! I love the positivity you put out!!!💜
As a current Kroger employee I have to comment...you will take bananas to your grave, am I right?
@@hartkeeeper 4011 FTW!! 😄 It's been 10 years this May since I last dealt with produce codes, but I still remember bananas.
I always grab 3 bags of bagged produce and weigh them, taking the heaviest of the three. 🙂
Smart!!!!

Matt, Your enthusiasm is so uplifting and needed these days....a big thank you to you!😇 And your content is on target and honest. You have made a nice niche for yourself to separate yourself from the rest. Kudos!
I worked in a horticultural packing plant, all fruit and veg will dehydrate over time, the rate just varies. App,es (what I packed) are packed with up to a buffer of 15% (again, where I worked) this was the same for other products we packed, nectarines, peaches and apricots.
Look for spices in the Hispanic food section instead of with all of the other spices. They will be cheaper. I don't know for sure if this works everywhere, but there is a store locally near me that works for this.
I noticed this in Central Virginia also. I like Goya and Badia brands.
@@tinacollins7149 Works for me in South Brooklyn too, especially w/ Goya EVOO & Badia seasonings.

Depending on consumption, it's even more cheaper if bought at specialty shops. Like spices and rice, go to Indian stores, you're getting more for the money since spices/rice don't go bad that quick. Same goes with produce certain fruits and vegetables are cheaper at local Mexican grocery stores.
I've found the same thing with the Goya and Badia brands. Beans, rices, etc are much less expensive in the Hispanic section.
I found out that Nongshim spicy noodles at my grocery store are like 50% less at a Korean supermarket
Also don't buy specialty food from Amazon. Most of those are sourced out to 3rd party vendors that charge 100% to 200% more than your local grocers. Prices for instant noodles, imported candies and stuff are overpriced.
Yup, if you want to buy online..i suggesr yamibuy! They the same prices or lil bit cheaper than my local Asian grocery
I think I may be too trusting with the pre-bagged produce. I’ve mainly been trying to look in the bags to see if the produce looks in good condition . 🤔😃
It is important to make sure of the quality as well, of course.
You are probably fine. I usually weigh my produce bags. They almost always weigh more than what is listed on the bag. Usually by .25 to .5 lbs.
They trick us witn old oranges because my kid loves them but when you peel they sometimes be old looking and dry on the inside (marcs and aldi)
My issue is I never use all of the stuff before it goes bad, so a smaller bag is a benefit for me, lol! I try not to buy bags of anything now. Like right now, we have had a 5pb bag of potatoes for at least a month. If they're still good, we seriously need to do something with them. My roommate brother and I have settled on fried potatoes and eggs with steaks, lol.
@Skylarkist Expert It actually is the supplier not the store that does the packaging and often the shortage is from water loss during storage and shipping. Stores get in a pallet loaded with the pre-bagged produce items and just put them on the shelf. When packaged they were at or above the promised weight but evaporation happens over time.
Fresh produce normally has over 300% markup at the store.
Frigo string cheese is good to buy in large bulk section in my grocery store. A package of 12 is $4.99, a package of 48 is $7.99
The FLIPP app is awesome for looking at a lot of different store's ads without having to download each one's app or go to different websites.
It even have a feature were you can circle the things you want from different stores and list them all in one location.
I also use it to look up a specific item to see where it is on sale.
I do this at Tuesdays, the new ads comes out and write my grocery list
@Alex N..... Thanks for the info.

the safeways around me never seem to restock their produce you have to be really careful especially buying Blood Oranges sometimes if you don't examine the pacjkage carefully you will get a orangge that is nothing but Mold. same with strawwberries
Safeways be understaffed and they also have problems with product orders 🤷🏽♀️
1. Luggage scale
2. Stick to the perimeter of the store
3. PLU codes. (4digit - traditional, 5digit - organic (start with 9))
4. Skip ethnic section
5. Buy best brands for paper brands
6. Do not shop before meals (shop morning and evening for most fresh products)
7. Do not fall for $1 for each item deals
8. Use cashback apps
9. Do not buy in bulk
10. Pay attention to freezer sections (much better choices nowadays)
Bonus. digital flyers, cereal
Thank you
It should be on top!!!

Oh my gosh... i work at Heinen’s!!❤️
I work in produce, we normally get our truck around 12... I always tell people that. They come in the mornings and it’s slim pickings most of the time.
A lot of great tips... love going to my local Asian market!! they always have exactly what I need( gluten free)
I get a bigger bottle and it’s cheaper
about asian products in grocery stores it depends where you live and how many asians shop there same with hispanic food, I live in a area with high population of asians and hispanics and they have all the freshest stuff
You always have great info and make the info so entertaining! 😊
The items with (some of) the highest protit margins or mark-ups are the "impulse" purchase items on the racks at checkout. Resist the temptation!
The items priced at the best per unit will be located on the shelves that are not at eye level. Gotta reach or bend those knees for the best deals!
Good tip!
It always kills me when the 20oz. bottle of soda is more at the register than a 2 liter bottle on the shelf. 🤣🤣
@@mraymo1977 THIS! They're capitapizing on it being cold and close to checkout when you're tired from shopping. Not saying I don't ever fall for it, because sometimes I do want a soda or water, but I try to mostly just wait until I get home, or bring in my own water bottle.
I've never actually THOUGHT about it, but almost every grocery store I've shopped at regularly (with the exception of Walmart and their weird center-aisle freezers) has gone, following the perimeter:
Enter in Produce, deli/meats, dairy, frozen with bread shelves across from the freezers
However, My local market swaps the dairy and deli/meat section.
The one I have committed to mind is the bread/in-store produce bag tie colors freshness schematic. Learn your colors and you will know that you're getting the freshest product on the shelf without having to hunt the package over with a magnifying glass to find the "best by" or expiration date. Just Google "bread tie colors" and you'll see lots of info. This is important so you're buying the product with the longest shelf life, not the store trying to push the oldest merchandise out the store at full price that will go bad at your house in 2-3 days instead of a week.
Great tips!! Who else wanted to reach through the screen and fix the stack of Quilted TP that was all upside down 😂🙃
I was appalled. lol
My wife and I can attest to almost all on the video, some of what you said is news to us, such as weighing the pre-packaged 3-5 lb bags, we’re definitely going to weigh before we pay from now on.
My biggest annayance with these bags is that you can not see all of the vegetables or fruit. I find with lemons and tangerines you will get always get some that are spoiled. And this is at all grocery stores that I shop. So your never getting a bargain.
There is only one of me. Buying anything in bulk means many would spoil before i ever got to use them. I buy 1 or 2 of an item.
A little tip about generic vs. Name brand foods. Check the Nutrition labels. I resently changed to a lower sodium diet and surprisingly alot of the generic food items actual have less sodium or cholesterol then then some of the name brands. also where you buy it can change this took. surprising the jared mushrooms from the Dollar Tree actual has the lowest sodium then any other we have looked at.
What great ,useful information, Once again Matt comes through!
Glad to have you here Annamarie!
I have noticed that if I need an item from the International isle, it runs cheaper than similar items in other areas of the store. Flour tortillas opened my eyes. Much cheaper on the International isle than on the bread isle.
Thanks for the grocery tips 👍🏽

The scales at my local supermarkets are totally off, by a whole pound! So good idea to bring in your own scale. I've found the 18 oz blueberries only weighed 13 ounces when I got it home one time. Total rip-off.
Thanks for the organic code info. Learned something new.
You should take a known weight to the store and test them. Then point it out to the manager. There's a good chance they are just clueless, maybe they'll correct the problem.
Can confirm that asian foods are 30-50% higher in price at regular grocery stores when comparing non-sale prices at asian grocery stores.
These are fantastic suggestions! and this is such an important topic to be discussing at the moment, I really enjoyed the video!
I appreciate your tips and enjoy your amazing sense of humor!
Our grocery store will give you the item free if it rings up higher than the shelf price. Our Walmart used to give u $3 off the item, but I don't know if they still do it, I haven't been to Walmart in a year, so im not sure if its still their policy.
When I homeschool my son he was with me all the time he'd go to the grocery store I taught him how to weigh the potatoes and onions same thing goes with celery carrots anything that's bagged per pound at one price 😀
I literally told everyone of my friends about number 10 all the time always buy frozen and it’s fresh produce that was frozen and it lasts so much longer for a great price I also work at a grocery store so if that helps
I truly agree with that! Frozen as fresh as possible and stays fresh until it’s cooked or thawed. No bumping around in boxes or sitting for days loosing their nutrients.
@@vbella39 Exactly. When produce is coming from South America or Israel, it's got a lot of time for the quality to go down.
I have found that if you buy beans in the Mexican aisle it is cheaper than the ones in the regular beans aisle for the same thing.
A lot spices are cheaper too.
Great tips! Thank you!

Willow Thick and Soft is our favorite toilet paper. I would walk to Aldi to get it if I had no car. Yes it only comes in the big bag but it is so worth it.
Weigh your single produce items...heads of lettuce, packs of broccoli, cauliflower heads, mushroom packages, peppers, etc. 😊
Why those are priced by EACH not by the pound
My Walmart certainly does not restock produce in the early mornings and at night.
It is horrible. Enjoy your videos too
We always buy the Walgreens TP! Just says Big Roll, they sell for 10/$5 and they are comparable, if not better than Scott's!!!! (Which is the only one I've found safe to use with my 100 yr old house's plumbing) hope this helps someone!!!!!
Thank you for the video!! Shopping for my Parents not a good idea for them to be out in long lines around a lot of people.I may go to three different grocery stores. Always good to get good prices on food.

I remember a few years back when monsanto was in big news and modified seeds bla bla bla. Anyhow, at that time I learned what numbers meant on the stickers. A number 9 was organic for sure! Thanks for sharing this great info Matt :-)

I do weigh them again on the store scale. I buy the heavier one!
Every produce bag I have ever weighed (and I weigh most of them that I buy), weighed more than the weight indicated.
Apple's, potatoes and other produce is done by count not weight. I know this because I was a produce Manager
As a produce manager, you are correct. Bagged produce also needs to be within 4oz of stated weight on the bag because is it loses moisture in transit.
If that were true, why are they sold by weight? Smh
@@candyjohnson3302 they're not sold to the stores by weight. They are sold by count. Smh
@@positivityonly3654 so, a 5# bag of potatoes that is sold to the store in the bag marked 5#, is actually not necessarily 5#? It’s simply 10 potatoes (or whatever number)? That’s crazy!!! The grocery store should address that to their buyer!
Great video thanks
Watch out for the price per sheet on toilet paper and paper towels. They change frequently and it really makes a difference on the amount you are getting per package.
Shopping at local drug store (such as Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aide, or whichever is available to you) have the best deals on them. Including oral products, too. It's worth to have loyalty cards because every dollar counts.
Thanks, Matt!
Hardest working man on You Tube!! RESPECT!!!
Can you make a video on apps? like checkout 51 and so on.. that would be super helpful. And i used to coupon a couple of years ago, i still have stuff from then, even after sharing, i got really amazing discounts.
My daughter in law bought her toilet paper and paper towels at target this time. The toilet paper wasn’t the softest I’ve ever used, but a roll lasted a long time. The roll is actually heavy. The paper towels were comparable to bounty. This was target brand. I don’t know price, but she tries to save money more than me so, probably pretty good.
That luggage scale works pretty good. Saved my butt at luggage check in at airport several times.
Ok now I truly love this channel
Great advice
As a manager of a grocery store 1st point- those come in pre weighed we don’t really weigh them we get a big truck and just put them on the shelf. 2nd point- this is completely true. 3rd point- this happens with a mix up of not only the produce worker but customers and other workers doing go backs (stuff customers don’t want). 4th point- absolutely most of this stuff is overpriced and organic. 5th point- not the best quality for store product however the price can be cheaper but, it’s more often less quantity just looks the same and packaged to look the same. 6th point- that is true however most of the time it’s best to shop the latest night most stores due to covid most of the time now it’s right before closing when we restock. 7th point- yes absolutely depends on what it is but read the fine print if it says (must buy increments) then you have to buy the deal this mainly happens for soda, however you don’t need to for other items often. 8th point- not sure tbh. 9th point- not a bulk store for main stuff. 10th point- absolutely the frozen is cheaper and often better then cans from my experience. Bonus- we have an app or we have a paper in store. Bonus#2- yeah most of the time the quality is horrible and just a little cheaper. Finally my last tip- if you’re cool with the cashier sometimes not saying all the time you can get deals from them for instance if you’re cool and bag your own groceries or you’re nice and they have a coupon that’s like $10 off $90 they will give you the $10 off. Also if there’s a buy one get one deal go to the front and ask for half off if you only want one or you can say there isn’t another one as of now since covid rain checks aren’t being handed out by a lot of stores due to shortages so they will likely just give you it half off
Hi Matt 👋
Thanks for this video ☺️ great information here and I'm right now as you read this comment sending this link to my daughter!
Until the next video......... bye bye for now 👋
I didn't know that about bagged produce. I mainly buy loose anyway, being just one in the house, 5 lbs. of potatoes usually grows so many eyes there is hardly skin left. I have 1/4 bag of Yukon Gold now that needs to get boiled up or will be lost. I have also found in the past few years our produce seems to be old before we get it. Thanks for sharing all this information.
