- To keep the look of our reef clean, I wanted to stay away from additional powerheads and equipment. Would a pump upgrade do the trick?

Thank you for documenting this upgrade; im doing exactly the same thing with the same tank for my first saltwater setup!
I’m so confused on the filtration do I keep the carbon filter or sub it with more sponge ? And do I put in media?
What I did was keep the spong filter and took the carbon filter and cut out the blue filter pad, I then took a sheet of polish pad filter material and cut it to size to fit in the now empty carbon filter frame. It basically acts as a mini filter sock. I also hung a mini resin bag in the back chamber. As long as you replace the pad every few days abd perform a 2 gal water change weekly they system remains very stable

@@high_fructose_corn_syrup 1/2 tubing works well on this return pump, it did pop off once but it is staying on well now.

How about drilling/melting a hole in the bottom/side and having the return pump with no hose just straight out of the bottom/side, max flow no pressure less noise?

No mods...the best kind of upgrade!
How can I add a bubbler in here without the back cover lifting up
So a little bit of advice about the pump upgrade. At full power it will over pressure the elbows and pop them apart causing water to go everywhere. Turn the flow dial all the way from + to - and everything will stay together and you will still get a huge increase in flow from the stock pump. Im also upgrading the nozel to the IM spin stream universal nozel to improve random flow in the tank without having to add a powerhead.
*update* I replaced the flaired outlet with the innovative Marine spin stream for the ability to get random flow without having to add a powerhead to the tank. With this upgrade, I was able to crank the upgraded pump to max output and remove one of the elbows, allowing for maxim random flow in the tank!

Coral and snails only right now. For lighting I'm using a hipargero a023 led light and I recently took out the filter tray in the back and run a zoomed nano 10 canister filter.
