The quality on this vid is top notch, especially considering how small your channel is, great vid can’t wait to see your channel grow keep up the great work 👍🏽
I have had 2 Marineland Portrait tanks for 2 years, and even have a very old modified System 2 Hood. This is a super review on this tank! One can actually put 5 small fish in this tank since the max. on the adjustable filter is up to 85 GPH, which is a lot more than the previous System 3 or 5 Gallon Marineland Hex, (the old ones actually used Z also, and were built to be more like a septic tank). There are future problems, and unlike Old Eclipse parts, Marineland does NOT stock any replacement parts. No more than 5 fish since the Cube design does not have enough surface area, as a rectangular shape does, allowing more oxygen on the surface. Still, the Marineland Portrait 5 Gallon is overall a fantastic aquarium for the money.
Okay let me just preface this by saying you are possibly on of the most interesting fish keepers to watch due to your incredible video quality and editing skills. I hardly ever subscribe to things but I subscribed to you man. Keep it up, love the aesthetics of your videos and its a great tank, just bought it myself for my guppy fry to hang out in!
This video is so great and helpful. I’m planning on getting one of these tanks to set up in my college dorm next month, thank you for the recommendation.
i just got my first white platinum HM betta yesterday , and i found your channel … now i’m here marathon-ing your videos . great videos , man ! ✊🏼 cheers from Philippines 🇵🇭
Thanks for this fantastic review and guide. It definitely helped me to choose this tank for my little guy. I love it and your hacks have worked out really well too. Highly recommend your videos on the tank for a betta!
I’ve been wanting to have fish as a pet but also figuring out what fish tank to get, your videos are the best and they actually help me to pick out some nice tanks
you might wanna consider adding botanical then open the lid add a cattapa extract or boil talisay leaves... there are also concentrated cattapa extract available with turmeric which is good for your betta fish immune system
Thank you for your video, it’s very informative! I am about to get the Portrait tank tomorrow and excited to transfer my betta into his new home. I am ordering everything you mentioned, and I am wondering what temperature do you set your thermometer at? I am going to order the same thermometer.
I set it to at around 78 degrees! I would recommend you just play with the dial for a bit until you see the tank itself stay at a constant 78-80 degrees. Enjoy your tank!
Great video..thank you so much for explaination.. I just got one .my first aquarium..not sure how to clean the tank and how often have to clean .. what ciphon to buy..
I'm looking into this tank as a beginner and was wondering if I could just use sponges in the back instead of the ceramic rings? I want to use a combo of filter floss and sponge. Thanks for all the advice!
I have the same exact tank but I removed he back cover and use a sponge filter as well as a finnex stingray light that clamped perfectly on the back. I ditched the plastic top and I’m currently looking for an option to replace it
@@Pharmaquatics iono about that.. the back cover hides the heater* & filtration system. Seeing these things in the tank takes away from the aesthetics. I'd keep it in there lol
great video idea, i will definitely do that! in the mean time here's some tips: 30% water change every 2 weeks, gravel vacuum once every 1-3 weeks depending on how much you feed your fish, scrub algae off the walls as needed and that's about it!
My favorite fancy 5 gallon for sure! The Aqueon Planted Clip On Light is a great replacement for the light it comes with if you want to grow more than anubias, java fern, etc. The light it comes with works fine if you're just growing low light plants, but with the replacement light I'm growing high light plants successfully.
With the ceramic media bag, do you take it out and clean it? Or would that destroy all the bacteria. Would I just take out the floss and replace that? Leaving everything else
@@Pharmaquatics would be great to do a comparison video if you can, as you have both. They seem to be the top 2 choices. Also, what do you think of the smaller ones 3gal? Great videos!
I literally just gutted the filtration system with a razor blade, the design of it is so flawed and I’ve lost so many guppy fry and shrimp in the back of that thing. It’s held by silicone so a razor blade will too. I used a more than capable hang on the back filter and a LED lamp and it looks ten folds better than what came in the box.

great video. Really made it all easy to understand as someone who just got their first big tank for fresh water.
This video is so great and helpful. I’m planning on getting one of these tanks to set up in my college dorm next month, thank you for the recommendation.
you got it! this tank is definitely a great choice
Once again, great video. Really goes into depth about this particular tank.
for sure, it's a great beginner tank!

Great that you're doing research before getting a fish!
Great video review--thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
I bought one after watching your videos Love it and so does my Betta Ozzy. TY!!
Glad to hear it!
Great quality video
Glad you think so!
I agree with you about the tank 👍
Just got one! Great video. And keep wearing tank tops 😜💪
Hahahah, noted! Thank you

Hi - great video , with cover on , how do feed fish ?
Bagus... terimakasih atas tipsnya👍🙏
Pretty betta

I was looking for a set up?? I have this one, but I have no idea how to set it up
Hey, where did you get the sponge you put on the filter nozzle so the flow it’s less
waiting for that guppy vid !!
guppy’s have been acquired 🤟🤟 stay tuned man
Do people put the heater in the housed filter part for tanks like these?
Great video..thank you so much for explaination.. I just got one .my first aquarium..not sure how to clean the tank and how often have to clean .. what ciphon to buy..
did a video on my maintenance routine for this tank!
I want to buy for shrimp, is there a way to cover intake with sponge?
What should the flow be on with a betta fish?.
How do I make the filter more quiet?
I'm looking into this tank as a beginner and was wondering if I could just use sponges in the back instead of the ceramic rings? I want to use a combo of filter floss and sponge. Thanks for all the advice!
you probably can get away with it depending on how you stock the tank, i just prefer rings because you can get a lot for cheap! all preference
Legends say that he still replies to his comments.
legend says he does it within 10 minutes sometimes 🤙
I am currently looking for aquarium videos and came across your video. I really like ur fish. I know its a betta fish but what kind exactly.
edit i found out
I have the same exact tank but I removed he back cover and use a sponge filter as well as a finnex stingray light that clamped perfectly on the back. I ditched the plastic top and I’m currently looking for an option to replace it
Richard Datuin Great modifications, Richard! Thanks for sharing. I may do the same soon to mine as well to give the extra swimming space 👍
@@Pharmaquatics iono about that.. the back cover hides the heater* & filtration system. Seeing these things in the tank takes away from the aesthetics. I'd keep it in there lol
Majin Boob ehh gotta weigh out the cons of decreased aesthetic vs the benefit of more swimming space for the fish
@@5cmpersecond193 if you plant the tank up correctly, you can hide most if not all of that, esp if u use a sponge filter.
I’m thinking about buying this tank and was wondering if you clean it and how you do it.

I like my Betta in this tank. He loves to go to the inflow of the tank filter, and just stay there sideways. It is funny to me.

agreed - ive only had success with anubias on the stock light and even then, it never propagated much
What modifications would need
to be made to make it good for a betta? Other than a heater
I would watch my other video on 10 essential modifications for this tank
With the light settings they have day, night and off. Can the night light be on all night?
i would say so! it's not too obtrusive
With the ceramic media bag, do you take it out and clean it? Or would that destroy all the bacteria. Would I just take out the floss and replace that? Leaving everything else
replace the floss, occasionally rinse the media with tank water but keep it in
What are some good fish for this tank other than a betta
mystique I’d say a couple shrimps or a guppy pair!
What do you think is better, Marineland Portrait or Fluval Spec V? Thanks!
spec v if you have the extra cash!
@@Pharmaquatics would be great to do a comparison video if you can, as you have both. They seem to be the top 2 choices. Also, what do you think of the smaller ones 3gal? Great videos!
Do you leave your fish heater on 24/7, Even in the summer??
all my heaters turn off when the water’s at a certain temp
Can you reuse the filter?
i just swap out the pillow fill once a month and rinse the other compartments of the filter with old tank water
Is this tank good for beta fish? Or should I search for a better aquarium kit
it’s good for the price. if money isnt a factor, look into the spec v, flex 9, or the aquatop pisces
i want to get this tank, what fish do u recommend?
betta!
@@Pharmaquatics oh, would tiger barbs also work?
@@craigjamaljohnson seeing as tiger barbs thrive in schools, i wouldn't go less than 20-30 gallons for them
@@Pharmaquatics oh, thanks, i guess ill stick with betta
@@Pharmaquatics What about small red shrimps and chilli rasbora?
just got this and my motor is so loud

nice! glad everything worked out for you
The tank is vertical in nature, not horizontal.
nipslip
does anyone have a time stamp of this for me? for scientific purposes
Came for the cutie, stayed for the content 😝😝
sorry, pet peeve, but betta is pronounced beh.tuh. Beta is a greek letter pronounced bay.tuh.
