Thanks for explaining the filtration flow through this tank. I have seen no other video on this tank that details the water flow through the filter. Your video was exactly what I wanted to know. My tank should be delivered November 23. It's for my Betta and mystery snail. I like to make changes as long as I improve the design as I use it. I don't want to use the filter pads.

Thank you for doing this. I’m working on doing this myself. I couldn’t decide between the Marineland Portrait or the Fluval Evo.

My recommendation would be the 13.5g version of the EVO. One of my favorite tanks ever.

This was super helpful! I’ve had this tank for a year (and no aquarium expert either) and sort of haven’t been able to figure out how the filtration system works. I have seen a LOT of debris go into that daisy wheel looking inlet, and when I clean the filter there is no debris to be found. I expect it to be filthy, but no. I am wondering if it’s all rotting at the bottom of the back chamber . . .

Was waiting for this one! That looks like they put non slip grip on there. Not sure if it’s rubber but it should hold tank in place. You should be good

I think that's not an intake on the top but a skimmer.

Thanks so much for the thorough review! Now is there anything you recommend to use besides the filter because I’ve heard the current is so strong it pushes fish around but I’m not sure. I am getting a betta fish soon and I’m ordering it soon

Honestly, if you use the stock pump that comes with the tank, I think you'll be OK. It's more powerful than most Betta tanks, but shouldn't cause any problems.

@@TheFishTankGuy Hi bro thanks for the reply! Also i was considering just using the carbon filter cartridges but im gonna have a planted tank and alot of people just say ditch them and do something else thats better. Does it really matter what i do?

@@TheFishTankGuy No, I have only had one other tank before but it was only for a week and it was a glofish tank with 3 tetras and a cory but the tank started leaking so i brought all the stuff back to petco and started over and did more research and decided im gonna do a marineland 5 gallon portrait with a betta and a couple snails and have a more natural planted tank besides all the artificial and fake colorful rocks because i didnt like it too much. I have the tank setup no water just the tank. ready for aquascaping and extra stuff like plants, substrate and rocks

@@DfryOfficial that's awesome! My recommendation, since it's your first tank and also a 5g,would be set it up with no live plants/soil at first. Love plants require frequent water changes and more diligence, which is not easy when first starting out. Of course it's up to you though! Good luck with your fish tank journey!

Change return pump to sicce nano, and look into a Random Flow Generator.
