This was very helpful! I have used burrs to engrave before, but I intend to be more invested into my engraving so I'll be getting the Power Graver by Foredom. Thanks For Sharing.💚
Great video, I have never tried to engrave & I’m just getting into metal working making jewellery. Now I’m excited to try engraving with burrs. Thank you!
You absolutely should! I love this technique, feels much easier and safer than any other type of engraving. Definitely worth trying and experimenting with :)
Literally just dozed off listing to your voice. It’s very soothing :) thanks for the video it was exactly what I was looking for exactly what I wanted to see and helped tremendously. I’m now going to be going around with my lil hand dremel and engraving every bit of metal I can find haha.
I will be making one with the hammer texturing in the future too! :)) It's a lot of fun, and maybe there will be something interesting for you too 💖 Thank you so much for watching!
Thank you so much! When you're just starting out it can be a little intimidating to lay out a lot of cash for expensive tools you probably can't afford and may end up not using. Really appreciate this, and you make it look so easy!
amazing, Faby! 💖 I'm really happy this was useful and you should definitely give it a go! I'm sure you'll be able to make wonderful patterns 💖 Thank you so much
I always try to leave a comment; that was great Basia, thank you for showing us. I'm wondering if you don't mind telling, what size sheet do you find is best for the overlay? And, how is the Lion Forge engraver? One more tip from me (yay), Amazon sells big sets of those diamond burs for CHEAP - like $4-$7. Buying from jewelry supply is at least 6-10 times more expensive - who knows why. The cheap ones from China work well (they are the same as the Rio or Cookson, etc). They come in all one kind or mix sets - I love them. great video as always!
Hello thank you for this very instracctive video new suscriber looking forward for learning a lot from you tho I have studied jewllery more than 30 years ago I havent done any jewellry lately cheers
Oh this is FANTASTIC!!! I love my LPFG engraving attachment but I am struggling and just cannot seem to get it to work properly. This will help me achieve the desired affect I am looking for. As always your such a beautiful inspiration Basia!! Thank you!!! 💙
Glad I could help! It's a good alternative to proper engraving tools. It's not actual engraving of course, but definitely helps to add some patterns to the metal, and make it interesting! :) Thank you so much for watching love!
I bought a cheap dremel from Michael’s. And the burrs leave rough superficial lines that enamel will not stay in but maybe I can still use it to practice having control of my line work.
Hi! Do you have an easy way to transfer designs to the metal for engraving? I’m guessing tracing paper and maybe even carbon paper? Not sure if it would transfer onto metal. Also, do you have the burs yoy demonstrated listed anywhere?
You got wonderful and pretty comments. But no technical questions, really. How do you clean up all the jagged lines? I noticed you did not zoom in on the lines, but I was able to see jagged lines in your demonstration.
Why are you policing other people's comments?? 😂 If you have a technical question, then ask away, no need to get all worked up over what others say. This was a fast demo that was supposed to show only WHAT can be done, not how. Therefore, I didn't pay attention to the whole process, cleaning included. When I make lines on my actual projects, I'm usually not actively filming, so I'm able to focus 100% on the technique, and my lines don't require much cleaning. If they do, I use appropriate attachements for the rotary tool. Hope that helps with your concern.
Thank you so much for this video I have been wanting to start using some burs in my work for texturizing. Do you use sandpaper or something else to finish up the design with after using the bur to texturize.?
You need to try it out asap! You'll love it :) yes, I use something, but not sanding paper. I usually use different rotary tool attachments, but not too coarse, as they would affect the texturing. Mostly medium to fine grades of bristle wheel attachments
Great video, super helpful and informative! Do you know what the sizes and names of the smallest burrs you're using are? I'm having a hard time finding them
Can you please please please give the specific tools and burrs you used, I want to do this kind of drawing/engraving a lot but there are too many types of dremel to choose from, would you have any advice?
What type of material should I use to practice stuff on should I flatten a copper pipe in a vice I don’t have equipment to melt small amounts and roll it flat yet
Thank you so much Heather! It depends on what type of finish I want to achieve. But usually I will try to have the surface nearly finished before engraving, simply because any additional steps will remove fine amounts of silver, therefore making the lines less deep. So usually the very last stage would be polishing or matte finish :)
Thanks for the great video! I have a question. I want to start engraving, and I was wondering do you hand engrave all of your pendants or do you use any other methods such as laser as well? :)
I have something laid out on a piece of paper which I'm going to put on the side of a water bottle...if the paper is glued down to the metal, will the bur cut through along the lines?
Yes, it will. Although later, after you remove the paper, you might need to fix or deepen the lines, by running the burr through the once again. I usually do that
Amazing! But I can't hold my burr, it always slides through the metal and ruining my whole piece. I everything! please help me. keep up the amazing work.
@@c.dreadz9197 Yes I figured if you moved your hand the opposite direction of the motion of the burr it will work out for you, so if the burr rotates clockwise you move your hand anti clockwise. I hope you get my explanation.
Hello, I am building some religious and Good luck plaques. I want to do my own lettering on brass plates, what would you recommend using a rotary engraver? Metal stencils?
Heyy! firstly thanks for such amazing tutorial! I have a quick question, do you have any idea for how to erase a line drawn wrong? I’d appreciate your reply or maybe a new video ;) . best of luck 🌸
Hmm, do you mean like piercing? If so, it's best to use the jeweller's saw for that and simply cut this space out. These burrs are pretty sharp, so you can use them to make deeper lines/grooves, but I\m not sure how well the would do to essentially drill trhough the metal. I also don't thing that would be a safe job. So better use this for the work on the surface. And use drills to make holes in the metal and jeweller's saw to cut out. Hope that helps :)
What’s best bits to use with rotary tool like you have for engraving motor cycle parts, like primary covers and tail pipe, rims ,,,etc??? Thanks for your time!!!
Hey there I have subscribed to your channel. Please can you tell me what the machine is called you are using to make the patterns with the burrs? And is their a cheaper option to buy? I’m just starting out. Thankyou 😊
This is a speed motor, also called pendant motor or a rotary tool, with a flex shaft. The one I'm using is by Foredom, but Dremel also makes great ones and they're a bit cheaper :) There also other brands available, but I recommend Dremel and Foredom the most
I just wanna state that this is amazing. Though is there a way I can trace a picture onto a sheet of metal? It’s for my girlfriend and her favorite animal is a raccoon
Hallo, is there any way to do this on a ring? Would you suggest engraving the metal prior to forming the ring? Or engraving it after the ring has been formed?
with these simple techniques, and for someone who isn't advanced, I would recommend doing it prior to forming a ring. It's much easier! However, if you feel confident, you can try after the ring has been formed! Make sure you have good equipement to hold the ring in one place, like engraving ball for example
The speed I use with these particular bits is medium. Not too fast and not very slow. It's fast enough to have a smooth line, but not too fast, so I can still control it well. It's better to try it out and see what works for you, get the good feel of the tool. So I would recommend practicing on a brass or copper sheet! Good luck! :)

Fill it with solder or weld.
My best suggestion is to just try and incorporate it. Also I use a vinyl cutter to have “stencils” basically.
Are any of these burrs sharp enough to cut a shape in the sheet metal if traced enough times? Or would a different tool be needed for that I wonder?
