A few years ago,I used date a lass from billingham, we'd go to seaton carew, for a walk. We'd pass these giants and see how they were getting on dismantling . Able had a great job!. Often wondered how they got there!
Amazing to consider that the UK has not a penny in the bank and Norway has the largest sovereign wealth funds on the planet and a much higher standard of living.
And a population of 5.5 million, roughly a little less than Scotland, there is no comparison, and it is very expensive, until the oil and gas they were poor, no sovereign wealth fund in Sweden, no oil and gas.
@philsteele7151 the UK invested zero which is why it has zero. Nothing to do with population. It is not possible to have less money from oil than the UK. Oh, but the infrastructure is great.....
Problem with that idea is that the average per capita income for londoners is about 3 times that for Yorkshire, and no i am not a Londoner i am from Yorkshire, doesnt change the fact that we have ten times the population of Norway with probably a similar gain from oil and gas that Norway has achieved. And yes we should "level up", because of all the accomodation and services that are in the rest of the country, which were built when the north was powering Britain into being a superpower, since we have become a service economy our global position has only gone one way.
my grandfather helped build these rigs at able port then known as laing and took me to see it being built , now as an old guy myself i see the rig at able port ready for decommissioning, thanks for sharing a fascinating video
My grandad worked on this when it was in dry dock being built in Norway I think he said. He watched it get pulled out to sea when it was finally done.. he said you can’t comprehend how big it was until you saw it going out to sea. He says he has many good/fond memories of working on it.
Not forgetting Shells original program was to tow all their offshore installations out to sea upon end of working life and simply dump them . Until Brent Spar. The smiling experts on its vid would rather forget that.
Hence the reason the government contribute something in the region of £500 million per platform for decommissioning, they are no longer allowed to just rip it in the ocean. Personally the oil companies have earned enough to cover this cost but it's obviously not up to me
Tipping sideways into deep see would have been best solution. Low cost, and they provide hugely effective habitats for young fish. Plus they would restrict dredgers from their destructive effects on the sea bed.
Very interesting watching the decommissioning of these platforms, I worked for a sub contractor in the 1970,s involved in the construction of the Beryl A and Brent B in Stavanger Fijord which back in those days was really cutting edge technology .
Very interesting film! My Dad's company supplied systems to almost all the fields in the 70's. I grew up knowing the field and platform names 🙂 I thought Brent had gone years ago, but I was thinking of the fairly infamous Brent Spa!
these big barges have dozens of individual ballast tanks in their hulls, and massive high flow pumps. so they pump water in/out as required where required
The Greenpeace activists Shell is suing were carrying out a peaceful protest. Shell’s attempt to intimidate them for exercising their protected right to free expression is outrageous.
Greenpeace told lies about residual pollutants. Telling lies is not the same as exercising freedom of speech to express personal opinions. And direct action is not exercising your right to freedom of expression. It is a form of violence in its adverse effects on the rights of others.
coat in russian means cat. theres more then one way to skin a cat. coat aka extra layer of skin.....bingo, have u seen my dog bingo running around here
£20b over its lifetime in tax, you should thank it. It paid for Education, NHS, Public services and local services across the UK. Good luck getting that return on a windmill.
it just keeps getting better for yall kids. jan,15,2025 well be going to moores home country to a jason aldean concert were well be allowed back stage to chat with aldean and brittany. and special guests sonny and rachy will get on stage and sing a few known aldean songs in front of a jammed packed stadium. well sing heaven, looks good on you,try that in a small town............
Spent 10 years on Brent C, Loffland Bros. Drilling Co., Rig 43, best time of my life, working with the best people!
African countries are taking back their oil wells, the British and her allies have no other choice than to dismount their tools of exploitation 😢😢😢😢😢
I live in Hartlepool and work around the Seal Sands industrial area, I get to see this beast stood tall every single day

That the difference between capitalism and a social democracy
@karlallen9389 more like a greedy elite in London. Bring on independence.

Unbelievable that the pioneer spirit was widened to accommodate the platform, thats some engineering.
my grandfather helped build these rigs at able port then known as laing and took me to see it being built , now as an old guy myself i see the rig at able port ready for decommissioning, thanks for sharing a fascinating video
4yrs on the bravo (scaff) always told “don’t go near brents” 😂…best memories i have of the rigs was those lads i worked with

I only spent a few years offshore, but videos like this make me really want to get back into offshore engineering!
i grew up in Aberdeen and my step dad worked as an electrician on Brent Charlie in the 80's
My dad was big George stronach who was the chief manager to these rigs so he probably made your step dad was well fed
@@staceyismine what is this 😱❓Horror films should be made on such platforms. Developed countries have long abandoned this Middle Ages 😉❗
What an Amazing job to you all😊
Spent 4 years on the Charlie part of the LOFFLAND Brothers drill crew as motor man from 1979 to 1983
Brent Charlie, we're scrapping it.
Did 33 years offshore and leaving a platform/facility after a total shutdown, knowing it will never be restarted must be the most bizarre feeling.
I could watch a multi-hour documentary about this process.
Not forgetting Shells original program was to tow all their offshore installations out to sea upon end of working life and simply dump them . Until Brent Spar. The smiling experts on its vid would rather forget that.

I see this everytime I’m over Hartlepool in the truck and it’s quite an impressive thing to see
Its a Interesting video. Hats off Ameya

A short documentary on it being dismantled at Able would be pretty interesting
The most wonderful work👷♂️
Excellent
well, done
Very interesting film! My Dad's company supplied systems to almost all the fields in the 70's. I grew up knowing the field and platform names 🙂 I thought Brent had gone years ago, but I was thinking of the fairly infamous Brent Spa!
I worked on the Alpha, Bravo and Charlie in the 90,s
How does the carrying barge balance the weight of the platform if that weight is sitting on the bows of the barge?
these big barges have dozens of individual ballast tanks in their hulls, and massive high flow pumps. so they pump water in/out as required where required
I think my dad was the chief manager on these rigs big George Stronach
Why?
Remember being on the Heerema Balder in the 80's
Fanastic job
Why switch the camera every 2 seconds. This is awful to watch.
Search Brent Charlie HSE and tell me they did things safely. Dropping at 3.3 tonne casing conductor 50ft onto the deck.
There isn't a rig in the North Sea you couldn't say the same about.

Adieu to Britain's prosperity
Nice to tell us how much tax was paid. Now tell us how much pure profit you made from them
Who cares?
Where is the UK's Sovereign Wealth Fund?
We ❤ SHELL.
😂😂😂
😊❤😊
Deliver net zero, pull the other one.
Kinda ridiculous title, it's simply decommissioning an oil rig, nothing to do with bringing anything home 🙄🙄🙄🙄
Thankyou Brent field and to the engineers just awesome go shell ❤
❤
Sad times I worked on Brent Charlie in the 80s
No skimping on the embroidery
Get ready for the LNG pump!
Cant wait, gonna change so much
What do you mean ?
Can you please explain ..
cutting off our nose to spite our own face.
why are we spending all this money when like the yanks make them safe and they become safe havens for fish ?
0:43 Are we allowed to laugh XD
We should be building these up to secure a future of cheap energy independence rather than chopping them down
I was on this on nightshift in the eighties
Fantastic

Better than pertamina! 😂😂😂
The DEI gods must be satisfied, gents.
These women interviewed removed nothing. Its the blokes with gas cutters covered in sea water and oil do the work. Exceptionally dangerous work
Search Brent Charlie HSE and you will see how dangerous Wellgear are
Goodnight, old girl

Paid for by the tax payer
£20b over its lifetime in tax, you should thank it. It paid for Education, NHS, Public services and local services across the UK. Good luck getting that return on a windmill.
Stop Drilling Start Paying
Good job! Now stop poisoning the earth
Our mere existence poisons the earth. You can't escape the fact being born a human in a modern, first world country.
Give up all the comforts and conveniences petroleum has provided you with.
