Pam this is meant in the nicest possible way, with great affection...watching you is pure comedy, you have me in stitches, a great hour and a half. Thank you 😊 also showing the whole process including the mistakes and learning is greatly appreciated.
I totally agree and I will be busy charting and have your video playing in the background, which makes a chore go faster and done with a smile on my face!!! Thank you for being so genuine, pleasant and entertaining 💜
I haven't laughed this hard in so long. The whole thing of the signature holders when she finally realized she sewed three to one side instead of two, and then the unintentional sewing of the wings where she had to undo the stitches, Oh My God, I literally had tears rolling down my neck. Can we all relate though? I'm way late to the game, but this has just become one of my favorite channels. I love her! 🤣🤣
You brought back great memories of ninth grade home economics class! My friends and I were all in the same class ( one sewed her thumb to the apron we were making, another sewed the A-line skirt together so she couldn't wear it, we melted a double boiler to the burner..we were busy talking....) I'm sure our poor teacher was going to flunk us all but at the end of the year we had to make a meal and because both of my parents worked I did all of the cooking so I brought my mom's electric skillet to school (after the double boiler fiasco we weren't allowed near the stoves) and we had fried chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, tarheal green beans and biscuits I made the night before. The teacher was so impressed (or maybe shocked) that she gave all five of us a passing grade! So thanks for helping me remember a great time in my life! Now what did I do with my seam ripper?.....
I was just the opposite! My first semester in home economics was cooking. Everything my group did was a disaster! Our teacher told us she hoped we married someone rich enough to hire a cook. Lol. I redeemed myself with the sewing semester, mostly just because I was interested. 😂
This is my favorite video that I’ve seen you do so far. You make it very entertaining and I love that you don’t appear to get frustrated. You just keep pushing forward.
Hi, Pam love all the videos. Thank you! One tip I would offer is that with this project, an iron will be very helpful. If you fold your signature flaps in half, press them, and open them back up before you stitch them to the "spine" feather, this will give you both a stitching guide AND help them stay in place for when you attach the pages. (Think of it like training a paper fold.) Also pressing the "feather" spine away from the signature strips will help you avoid the problem of sewing the "feather" to the signature. I hope that makes sense! :) i've been sewing for 55 years, and so many times using an iron to sew things easily is the key to an easy fix. Hope that helps! :)
I have been seeing since my mom taught me when I was 7, and she always said "if you're not ironing as much as you're sewing, you shouldn't be seeing". Haha! I love your tip. I can totally relate.
Girlfriend I LOVE everything about your videos. Your creativity, your narration and silly singing, Sunny (my favorite of all), your goof ups, and your "devil may care" outlook on it all. I even love your camera shifting. I just found your channel about a week ago, and you have had me literally laughing out loud since. THIS video had me cracking up. The loss of the foot on your sewing machine and your "time out" to fix it had me in stitches. And on the whole signature holder situation where you sewed them wrong, I was yelling at the TV "No, no, you sewed three instead of two!", and then you finally realized it. Plus the dishes crashing in the background, oh man, I haven't laughed that hard in a very very long time! I cannot tell you how much I appreciate and love your process! But the fact of the matter is that what you do is beautiful and I have just started on my very first junk journal today because you've inspired me. As much as the perfectionist me got her panties in a bunch, she needed this so much because I appreciate how you don't let those things stop you and you encourage your viewers to embrace the process, mistakes and all. Thank you so much! Please don't change what you're doing. It is your gift. 🤣❤️❤️
Love your tutorials! They are always honest and Real! I learn more from yours and appreciate the learning process! Thanks for all your hard work making these videos!
I absolutely agree. I love how Pam shows her entire process, talking to herself, making mistakes and fixing them as she goes! It's inspiring knowing that someone whose final work is as beautiful as hers is, has real life issues like the rest of us.
Hi Pam, I've been sewing for 50+ years, and watching this was a hoot! You are so funny. I was watching the clips as you were sewing, and I thought for sure they were going to get caught in your needle. Whew, that was close! I admire your tenacity. I totally love your projects and ideas. Love and cuddles to Sonny. Tfs.
I thought the same about the clips. But what really had me going was when she lost her foot and didn't realize the camera kept rolling while she tried to fix it. I absolutely love her!
After you have worked so hard on this, you might not want to hear the idea that popped into my head, but here goes: Take 2 sheets of 8 1/2 x 11 paper, printed or coffee dyed or whatever. Set them side by side with the 11" sides together. Overlap the 11" edges by 1/2". Glue the 2 together in that overlap area. You can see them together too if you want. You now have a single sheet sized 11" x 16 1/2". Fold in half to 8" x 11". Make a bunch of them to make your signatures. By making the signatures a 1/2" narrower, you won't have that overlap outside your cover and you won't have to trim it off. Easy Peasy. 😊
Thank you so much for this video! I come from a long line of seamstresses. Quilters, dressmakers…you name it. I legit can not sew a button. I’ve purchased thrift store sewing machines before to “learn” on. With very little luck lol. Many many snapped threads and needles later my thrift store machines look very pretty in storage 😜. Well Santa has brought me a very shiney brand new machine that is very intimidating out of the box. 😂 Watching someone you greatly admire learn on the fly, make mistakes and work through them with grace and humour Makes learning new things so much less intimidating. Makes it possible and fun! Thank you! Thank you SO much!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Yahoo a novella length film with Pam. I have perfection tendencies and you are teaching me not to stress but to enjoy. Thank you lovely for teaching me. From Colleen
You’ve inspired me to try so many new things. I’ve made so many cool journal cards and ephemera from junk mail. I watch and listen to your videos for hours while I work on projects. Thank you for the inspiration and guidance!
Yes pam you make my day an night as sometimes I do my journals around 8ish pm as its cooler this time in nz... lol I tried the full page glue n sew journal all I need now is a sewing machine my missed opportunities on buy sell an exchange or market place I miss out the sewing machine bargains an like you not so great q sewer at school either. My nightie turned into a mini dress I wore once lol pam,,, yes you are very awesome creative I started 3 years ago an have a box journals from scraps paper it's a amazing what you paper wise ha. Can do. I love love watching you. Gives us all confidence. 39. 1 2022. Cheers
Oh this was fun to watch!! Sewing ... glueing .... the core of crafting ... with scissors, right!?? : )) And the beautiful part about not being a professional or an expert at any part of crafting is the fun of it all! I'd argue the "pros" watch you guys to learn!!! TFS and sunshine is still the cutest sidekick on the planet!!!🌻
Pam. I've got to tell you. You have inspired me so much. I have been making lots of spirit dolls to sell at my local gallery. But after a dream I had that told me I needed to get back into my unconsciuos more, I felt I needed something to just focus on myself. I started a junk journal, sort of, with lots of my stuff that has been piling up around me. I have even started putting in some text from some of my writing journals. I am using fabric, Gelli prints and old watercolors and decorative paper scraps. Thanks lots for your attitude and the skills I have been learning.
Hi Pam! I first ''met'' you on this very tutorial video when I searched ''how to make a planner or journal". I wanted to begin writing in one again after a bout with hard times and you served as a very -much needed inspiration. Thank you.. I'm just as amazed and enlightened today as I was then. Thought I'd share... You are so valuable to this wonderful community and I'm sure, in many other realms too! Happy crafting 📎📰🧨🖍🦀🖌✂🌼🌿🐶🐾🦋🥀🧚♂🙋♀
If you pin the 'wings' together from the start when sewing the paper into the signatures it helps you keep them out of the way easier. I'm learning so many new techniques from you. This is alot of fun!!!
I enjoy watching you so much, you explain it all perfectly for me. Thank you. You have answered so many of my questions and I smile through the whole thing.
Thank you for showing us how to bind a full-sized journal! Clara Kiritta makes some incredibly gorgeous ones on her RUclips channel, and for the life of me, I couldn't figure out how she attached her signatures. Thank you again!
Wow...this is awesome. Great for note taking and classes. Add some pockets on the inside cover for extras (worksheets and such), clip for a pen and off you go. Looks like today is going to be a busy day. Thank you so much for making the world a better place with your creativity! Have a happy Easter!
I've really enjoyed this demonstration, I'm a sewer and understand your mistakes, I'm just learning this art and the use of scraps is right up my alley, I throw nothing away so I lots of scraps to use up. Your lessons are entertaining and educational. Thank you
Love it, I attempted this concept about 3 years ago. Mine wound up too thick, adding far too much bulk within the spine. So thank you for sharing your workaround for using fabric to hold our signatures in. Love the full page journal...
Great video! I love watching as you create and solve what comes up. You are very encouraging. A tip for using the seam ripper - use the end with the red bit to go under your threads you are breaking and that way you don't accidently poke into your fabric with the sharp end. Good tip about where to break the thread between the fabric vs right on the stitched line of thread. I love what you create. Thank you :)
I like how you keep adapting and adapting your expectations on the fly. You don't stress over getting it meticulously precise. You use randomness as part of your design decisions, and that is inspiring. Randomness is what I am striving for in my art after years of precision. Working in the space of predictability is a comfort zone. Structure is safe. But add randomness and it is a huge leap of creativity. A big leap into the unknown. I am hard wired for precision, and I'm tired of it. Your intuition with randomness is pretty good, and the cheerfulness adds buoyancy. it helps me to be around that kind of freedom and openness to surprise you have in your own art. You surprise yourself and keep on going. We need mentors and others to show us the way in art. So we can make leaps of our own that take us where we want.
Hello Pam. Happy Easter. I like this process of making a bigger page journal and using it for a memory keeper would be awesome. Sunny is super adorable. He brings even more love to your home. Big hugs. ❤️❤️
Watching this on Easter Sunday and planning a crafting session right after I am done hiding eggs for the girl child in our family. Happy Spring to all! 🐣
We didn't get to write in ink pen until grade 7. I went to school in Oklahoma in the '70s and early '80s. On a more important note, I love your videos. You always make me feel like I can make anything and create in my own way. Thanks for your videos!!
Hi Pam I consumed enough laughter to last all week-end. Thank you so much. What would life be without you? Pretty dull. It's called laughing with you not at you! This idea is a good one and it may be a while before I jump on it! Tyfs! Love Sunny! He makes my heart sing. Mylo had declawing the week and you would never believe it! Like nothing happened! Safer furniture! Lol! PS: HAPPY EASTER TO YOU ALL!🐰🐇🐥🐣
Good morning Pam & Sunshine! Hope you had a fabulous Easter ! This was a very helpful video and I appreciate you taking time to show every step, I really like the idea of using the fabric its cool. Hope you have a awesome crafty week, take care!
Love your tutorials! I tried something a little different. I sewed the stacks of paper pages together first then glued the stitched stacks into the the internal strips of binding. Super easy and no worry about slippage.
Hello Little Sunny, I Love your comfy bed your look soo cosy snuggle up all mushy & warm. Who's your friend laying beside you? Every little one should have a little friend to snuggle into.🐕💜🐕 We love your cameo appearances being as cutness as you can bee, sending you lots of love & cuddles from Us3 here over the pond in UK xxxx💜🐕💜
Omg Ms. Pam. That's a brilliant idea. I really liked that idea so much, I bought a mini sewing machine😂😂. I am going to use paper scrapes, envelopes, file folders (not too thick, tho), watercolor and pastel papers, to fill my journal. You manage to always come up with some great journal making ideas and ephemera. And your podcast is great too 🥰😍. Thank you Ms. Pam for sharing your ideas. I'm going to fold your advice to "create with reckless abandon"🤪. Big hugs 🫂 from long distance 🤗. 💛 you!
I’m following step by step on this , this mornings. I was just I was the person who said dag nabbit!!! LOL You will get his!! I can’t wait to get my done this morning. It’s #3:30 and here right. I sure hope I can do this as good as you!! Thank you for sharing exactly what need along with they wonderful sense of humor. 🦋
Wow, well I’m not doing this anytime soon since I don’t sew, but it gave me an idea of using folders for reports to house the full-size papers in signatures. Thanks.
I just ran across this one, lol love it. Btw, to use the seam ripper, start at the bottom, pick out the first couple of stitches with the point, them turn the ripper tool over so the red dot is facing down. Set the blade against the stitching thread push. Pull the seam apart as you go, and keep the cutting edge pointed at the stitches. The red doted end keeps the fabric from tearing. Sometimes ur can lay the peice on its side and zip it out. If you get to a spot where the threads are too tight together go slow or pick them out a stitch at a time. Hope this helps. There's a video of doing this out here somewhere just do a search and it will come up! :)
i came here to see if anyone told her this.... the red dot on the seam ripper is the guard and guide (my term) and works much better. i learned this from screwing up so many times... lol
I enjoyed this long video very much. To trim the innards at the end (because that happens to me all the time!) I put the back cover under the edge of my cutting mat. No risk of cutting the back plus I'm cutting against the cutting mat which helps me keep a straight line.
A very technical make Pam. Nice work. The little red ball on the quick unpick lies on the fabric side so you don’t tear it, then you can run along your seam quickly.
Hi Pam. I've been eating up your videos for about four months. I'm hooked! I've made so many iterations of what you are showing us. This art book (13"X 11" pages cut from very large poster board bought at a dollar store) is the latest creation. It isn't perfect but I love it and will gift it to a dear friend as an April birthday present. I've made other smaller books, one of them being a cover for a writer friend's short story for children.
Brilliant! I should have thought of that. I'll see what I can do. I've given the book to its new friend but I probably took a photo before it went on its way.
Soo excited.....today I will be making my" First BIG BOOK"....just for me!!! These step by step tutorials opens up a whole new sheet of possibilities!! Thank you exce3llent!!
OMG ROFLMAO!!! you are a hoot! i simply love your videos - the way you take the mistakes in stride, figure it out, and keep going. i get tired of the videos where everything goes well, but my project falls apart. it makes me wonder why my projects always have snags. as for the signature sewing - you made the signature wings 2 inches. that means one inch on either side of the paper, but you sewed them at about 1/4 inch. glue was a great idea! clamping the stuff you didn't want to sew together - i was yelling that before you started sewing the first signature, sigh. in my house, the person sewing never takes out stitches - it's someone else (but then, we both do lots of sewing for the other so it works for us. we've found that unsewing your own work is disheartening sometimes, so the other helping makes it less painful.) next time, sew a bit closer to the edge of the signature and not so close to the spine. you should tackle pleats next - you've already figured out the hardest part - how to not sew the bits on either side of your current line!
Pam, you did all the hard work of figuring out how to make 8 1/2 x 11 full size page journals. Thank you for doing that and for sharing how to do it. It really is helpful to see the process beginning to end. I appreciate you being willing to do that. I have lots of digi pages and I do not like inserting them East to West into a journal. I much prefer North to South orientation so the whole page can be seen as designed. It’s the OCD kicking in I guess. Anyway thanks. I’m gonna try this with denim, canvas or heavy muslin.
I have made the original big book with the file folder cover. It came out so gorgeous. I love it. Now I am thinking of making one for my genealogy book. It is the perfect size for family trees, documents, etc. Thanks so much for this concept and great tutorial.
I recently made a journal with a similar method and I used strips of heat n bond just a fraction smaller than the fabric (I used cotton rags) strips to adhere the signature pages to the strips! Just a suggestion 😘
Oh, I was hoping for this. Thank you! You are so inventive! All I could think of to make a larger book was to follow your other methods but using a large sheet of paper that can be folded into large size signatures. That increases the cost, by a lot! Plus, extra large sheets of paper aren’t easy to find.
Intresting video like watching junk journal videos ,just a tip when your machine makes a knocking noise and the thread keeps gathering up underneath it like it was it usually means the lint trap needs cleaning out, or your tention needs ajusted
ya had a date with Jack! lol that is what we named the seam ripper as quilters. I sometimes spend way too much intimate time with jack taking out seams lol
Loved this - would love to see how you'd do a regular sized book. I'm working on my first "hard bound" journal and am just feeling all thumbs and dumb😮😮
I just LOVE your videos! Talk about FUN! Unfortunately, I have learned to keep my ripper front and center. 🤣. I got a great laugh out of the Chef in the kitchen 😂🤣. That is such a wonderful way to bind a book...a little fiddly but I like the look. I really appreciate you making mistakes so we can see how to fix them. 😊. Have a restful and Blessed Easter weekend Pam. Give Sunny a snuggle for me. ❤️
Goodness that was a lot of work. Thanks for answering the question about how to do this. I have been wondering for a while if it was possible/practical. Think I'll use an old ring binder and decorate the file instead.

Total affection! Pam is a joy!
You are the bravest woman doing this without preview!

Hello Pam. Happy Easter. I like this process of making a bigger page journal and using it for a memory keeper would be awesome. Sunny is super adorable. He brings even more love to your home. Big hugs. ❤️❤️
Those are awesome the way you made them . They look totally different you won't guess what you use to made them. Thank you .
I had fun!! Your sewing mistakes remind me of mine whenever I made my own clothes. Thanks for sharing them!!
I’ve been sewing for 40 years and I take out almost as many seams as I put in😂❣️
Thank you!
Watching this on Easter Sunday and planning a crafting session right after I am done hiding eggs for the girl child in our family. Happy Spring to all! 🐣
Pam, as always, love this! Thanks so very much for sharing .
You are such a joy and very real. Thank you so much 😊
We didn't get to write in ink pen until grade 7. I went to school in Oklahoma in the '70s and early '80s. On a more important note, I love your videos. You always make me feel like I can make anything and create in my own way. Thanks for your videos!!
Was sunny doing the dishes. 😂😂😂 gosh you make smile . TFS all your creative fun Pam. 🤗🤗🤗
Lol! PS: HAPPY EASTER TO YOU ALL!🐰🐇🐥🐣
Love your enthusiasm for paper and enjoy watching you.
Thank you so much!
WOW Pam this is well out of my way for my head definitely not for me😂😂😂😂 but a walk in the park for yourself great job 😀💕
Good money Pam and fellow crafters. I'm so excited about this video. Thanks Pam, 😊
Good morning Rhonda!! :)
Lol I'm happy you knew what I meant. Good Morning!
And no struggling to get a rigid journal cover through your sewing machine
Lol! Fuddle duddle! Haven’t heard that in a while! I enjoy all your videos and am learning a lot. Thanks for the lesson and the “chat”!
I love this one it was real different thank you so much you're so good at sharing you things
Brilliant Pam!!!! This was an excellent tutorial and something to keep me busy!😌❤️🙏🏽🤗
Love this idea!! I like the bigger pages! Thanks for sharing!
You are AWESOME! I love your channel Pam &.I adore your little lad, Sunshine! He is just a cutie!
Great tutorial and Sunny ☀️ is the cutest Art studio pet. 🥰🐞😍
Hello Little Sunny,
I Love your comfy bed your look soo cosy snuggle up all mushy & warm.
💛 you!
Great tutorial! I’ve been wanting to make a full page journal!!!!
Happy Saturday Pam! Another great video ! Can’t wait for the leaf cover one! ❤️
You're great, I'm learning allot! All your vids are inspirational, thank you!
i came here to see if anyone told her this.... the red dot on the seam ripper is the guard and guide (my term) and works much better. i learned this from screwing up so many times... lol
Love this idea. Larger is great for an art journal! Thank you for sharing!
I enjoyed this long video very much. To trim the innards at the end (because that happens to me all the time!) I put the back cover under the edge of my cutting mat. No risk of cutting the back plus I'm cutting against the cutting mat which helps me keep a straight line.
LOVE your Idea And How CUTE 🥰 this came Out👍🏼❤️Thank You Pam 😊 G-d❤️Bless❗️
love you and all your work
A very technical make Pam.
Phooey! Looks like I can't post images to the comments. Too bad .... I really wanted to show you what you inspired.
Facebook group!
Brilliant! I should have thought of that. I'll see what I can do. I've given the book to its new friend but I probably took a photo before it went on its way.
Thanks Pam. This is a tedious process. You are very kind to show it to us. I will make sure to make it!,,
Yep, it is a bit fuss fuss ;)
Soo excited.....today I will be making my" First BIG BOOK"....just for me!!! These step by step tutorials opens up a whole new sheet of possibilities!! Thank you exce3llent!!
Wonderful!
Happy Easter to you an all.💕
Same to you!
Fantastic job thank you for your video and hard work 😉😍🌞🤗
Pam, you did all the hard work of figuring out how to make 8 1/2 x 11 full size page journals.
Your awesome Pam 🥰 Love your works 🥰 Love your Love for animal friends ❤️ much Love is sent from Switzerland
I have made the original big book with the file folder cover. It came out so gorgeous. I love it. Now I am thinking of making one for my genealogy book. It is the perfect size for family trees, documents, etc. Thanks so much for this concept and great tutorial.
Thanks! :) Go for it and have a blast!!
I recently made a journal with a similar method and I used strips of heat n bond just a fraction smaller than the fabric (I used cotton rags) strips to adhere the signature pages to the strips! Just a suggestion 😘
Thanks for sharing this beautiful. This is very helpful knowledge.
Oh, I was hoping for this. Thank you! You are so inventive! All I could think of to make a larger book was to follow your other methods but using a large sheet of paper that can be folded into large size signatures. That increases the cost, by a lot! Plus, extra large sheets of paper aren’t easy to find.
Glad it was helpful!
Does you hubby ever come watch you and/or do you ever show him your Journals? Also why is Holly so quiet today? Love you❣️
Intresting video like watching junk journal videos ,just a tip when your machine makes a knocking noise and the thread keeps gathering up underneath it like it was it usually means the lint trap needs cleaning out, or your tention needs ajusted
Great tutorial, Pam! Love the idea of a large page journal so may have to give this a try. Wishing you a happy weekend.
Hopefully you had a good drink after this video. Loved it and no swearing.😂😂😂😂😂
Lovely pices 👏😍 lots of love from arctic Norway 🌼🌸🌺💐🌷☘️🌻
ya had a date with Jack! lol that is what we named the seam ripper as quilters. I sometimes spend way too much intimate time with jack taking out seams lol
You're so crazy and I love it... TFS
Thank you!!!!😊. I enjoy a challenge.
Love this.
I bought a metal ruler with cork adhered to it years ago when I cut glass. Bought it at Delphi glass. Happy Easter!
You are the best!
I like t
The book you made look like had bit d trouble with the butterflies wings
Goodness that was a lot of work. Thanks for answering the question about how to do this. I have been wondering for a while if it was possible/practical. Think I'll use an old ring binder and decorate the file instead.
Love this!
