    That's a great idea Stuart Reid and I'm sure that there are many viewers here that will take you up on that advice. Thanks for posting such a helpful comment and thanks for tuning in to the show.

    Enjoyed the video! If you didn't glue each piece together you could fold the spinner flat to store it, or in my case, put it away until the motorhome got to the next location. With a wing nut on the top you could then spread out the pieces, tighten the wing nut, and hang it up for all to see.

    Whenever you are cutting threaded rod, put the nuts on first, then cut. Removing the nut will debur the threads at the end.

      As much as that is a great suggestion and it does work, I prefer a better grind on the end of the rod that isn't so sharp. Thanks for tuning in and for chiming in with your method.

    Another nice video Kenny. Even though it was of MDF, i thought it looked really good I personally don't have a problem with MDF, it has its use. I think spinners should be colourful so if its to be painted, doesn't really matter what its made of.

      Steven Mason Glad you liked it Steven. I'm just not a fan of MDF for anything and this design definitely deviated from my original plan. No worries though, there will be another one with difference species of wood in the near future.

    Thanks nice video. I made one of these out of cedar and on the end of the thread I used an eye nut with a short fishing leader swivel.

      Yes sir, that would work too. I bet that cedar looked great. Thanks for tuning in.

  • @walnutcreekwoodworksofjack3520

    I make these using craft sticks and 3/16" dowel rod. Saw someone make in shape of tree for Christmas.

    Great Project and Video Kenny, and I hate to say it but the paint job isn't too bad either.
    Thanks.,

      Barry Roberts Thanks Barry. I would prefer it to be different species of wood and that's the way the next one will be but in a pinch, the paint worked.

    What glue did you use? Thank You

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  2 года назад

      On this one, I just used regular yellow wood glue. With that being said, you could also use something like Titebond III which is waterproof. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in Chris.

      Jerry Hickey Thanks Jerry. So far, I'm loving the new saw. Make's my Ridgid feel like a toy. Not to worry, there will be a full review in a few months, but so far, it's awesome.

    You say to cut the rod at 13 inches, but fifty-six 1/4-inch-thick pieces stack up to 14 inches (8 * 7 * 0.25).

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  6 лет назад

      Now you've got me thinking Wolf. I just went through the entire video to see if there is something that we missed but no, there isn't. 56 pieces do not add up to 13" and the only thing that I can think of (because I measure for the piece of threaded rod instead of calculating it) is that when I sanded all of the pieces, they lost a bit of their thickness. A little bit of thickness off of each piece when you are dealing with 56 pieces, can very easily add up to an inch and that is most likely where we lost more than an inch of material.. I hope that this explains it. Thanks for tuning in to the show.

    If you put the nuts on before you cut the rod, no problems with threading.

    should install a nut on the rod before you cut it then all you have to is spin the nut off. This will push the cut end inline and allow the nut to go easy

    • @acutabove_woodworkings

      I have used this method in the past. It's a good tips and I'm sure that plenty of people here will find it useful. Thanks for chiming in with the suggestion and for tuning in to the show.

    whats mdf?

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  4 года назад

      MDF stands for Medium Density Fibreboard. It is essentially sawdust and glue, compressed together to form sheet stock. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in Denise.

      I normally delete comments on the channel that have nothing to do with the video I posted, but rather only have to do with promoting the original poster's work. I'm leaving yours here because I like your work. The dragon flies are especially fun. I may have to make one on my show one day. For those of you who are interested in Charlene's spinners and dragonflies, you can find them here facebook.com/CharleneEvansPhillips
      Thanks for tuning in to the show Charlene. I hope you enjoyed it.
