    Since ask to take these new test, then passing all 8, being an ASE Master Tech since the building said "Datsun" on the front of the building, I appreciate any tech who is will to not jump to conclusions and just start without testing first. You have my gratitude!
    In my day, we rebuild everything as the only part that came in a box from a distributor, carburetor, alternator or starter was new from the dealer. So using your scan-tools lab scope function to "SEE" the 5 volt or signal is the right way. Too many techs today start with a wheel borrow full of parts, then send back as defects when they don't fix the "Root" cause as you did.

    Below the sender in the oil passage there's a screen that can be pulled out and cleaned. If this screen is plugged with debris you'll get weird p532 type codes with the new sender. Always pull the sender and pull out the screen and replace it clean. Saves you a come back
    later. There's a GM service bulletin on the issue.

    I have a 2007 Suburban 5.3L - It has experienced oil consumption and oil pressure issues since 45,000 miles. The truck now has 260,000 miles after a motor rebuild at 126,000. Here is the best solution sequence I've come across after much research.
    Run the correct motor oil and a good quality filter, 5W30 and the best filter you can buy, I usually run a full synthetic and change every 6000 miles. Do not changes motor oil weights and use oil additives to solve this problem.
    1) change the PCV valve cover to the new one, the original one is a flawed design, $120 and some labor
    ruclips.net/video/uC89I3j0e5Q/видео.html
    1b) disable the AFM using a Range Technologies product. $200, no labor - plug it into the OBD port - this keeps your engine from switching into V4 mode using the AFM (active fuel management), it will stay in V8 mode all the time. It's a truck, keep it a V8, you might experience slightly lower MPG but your power will increase. AFM is one of the root causes of spark plug fouling and lifter issues.
    ruclips.net/video/HGdqaAoAR88/видео.html
    2) change out the oil pressure sensor and screen if you experience sudden drop in oil pressure and get the idiot warning signal to stop your engine, with right tools and some tool dexterity you can change this yourself, beware some mechanics will do this job and eat up a lot of shop hours tearing the top off your motor to get to the part and screen. $80 parts, labor depends, DIY you'll have to buy the right tools, shop rate look at 1 - 2 hour minimum depending upon mechanic experience with this change..
    ruclips.net/video/_LJW7UBlALY/видео.html
    4) replace the o-ring on the oil pick up tube that inserts into the oil pump if you have a leak and your oil pressure gauge fluctuates, most likely the o ring has a crack and you are sucking air - $5 part but this is a labor intensive job and should be done by an mechanic that has access to a rack, tools and experience.

    Just had my sensor AND filter replaced today. Make SURE they place a NEW filter when they replace the sensor. I had it done at dealership. My truck's been paid off for 5 years so I don't mind. Plus, the dealership works on Chevrolets 6 days a week, are used to replacing hard to get to parts like this, and they've got all the needed tools. I was in/out in an hour. Sometimes you pay for convenience.

    I have a 2007 Suburban 1500 5.3 L vortec which has a similar problem. It had trouble with oil pressure reading low quite some time ago, but it also had the AFM issue and I replaced the lifter a couple of times before I decided to buy the kit that replaces the cam and puts a new cover without the AFM stuff on it. When I finished it and got the PCM re-written, I was able to get the vehicle started and after awhile it ran well. I took it for a drive and it had several codes so I reset them and drove it some more. The codes did not return.
    Then I began to get P0521 error codes. The oil pressure is 40 psi at start up, revs to 80 psi or so and when hot it appears to be around 20 psi at idle. So I put a mechanical gauge on it which showed 36 psi but some air was in the line, too. The point was that the pressure was there just as the other gauge indicated. That made me decide that the sender must be the culprit and I replaced it. Alas, I had similar problems to get it out, but the worst came when the new one slipped out of my fingers and onto the cover plate under the intake manifold. I finally gave up trying to retrieve it and removed the intake manifold - it was stuck between the foam and the edge of the manifold.
    Now I got it all back together and started it - works like a champ. Took it for a drive - no error code. Fixed! Wrong! I took it for another spin a day later and sure enough, the error was back! I hear no clicking or engine noises that indicate low pressure, the engine gauges say the pressure is there, but the PCM says that the voltages are wrong. I checked the voltages between 2 and 3 and between the pins to ground. 0 volts all around with power off and 5 volts from 2 to ground and from 2 to 3 with power on. 1 and 3 to ground are both 0 volts as expected. Unless I got a bad sender unit, it should be ok. So what is it?
    If I pull the timing chain cover and replace the oil pump, nine chances out of ten there will be no improvement in oil pressure.

    I replaced the oil pressure sensor and filter took me about 20 mins. I am no mechanic but I was determined to get that thing changed. My oil pressure now reads 20 psi, it won’t go any higher than that, it slightly goes up when I hit the gas for a few seconds but it stays under 20. What else could be wrong?

    • @fixersautomotive4514
      @fixersautomotive4514  2 года назад +1

      20psi at idle is about normal for a 5.3L. It will rise slightly when you hit the throttle but should stabilize around 20psi. Hope this helps.

      Btw I did that 2 weeks ago, after that a-lot of things have happened lol. My started dies and my wife was stranded in Houston, I changed the starter and the oil pressure was down to 0 again. I was upset. So I changed the oil again and nothing. And just when I was about to take it to the shop I thought, man I bet is that damn oil pressure filter that is clogged again. So I went to oreilly’s and bought one for $10. I switched it out and wallah, the pressure is up agaain. So this leads me to conclude that I still have a lot of junk in that engine that still clogging the filter.

    Everybody’s going about getting to that sensor all wrong. If you reach straight down from the top of the engine at the back, it’s a direct line to the sensor 6 inch extension on a socket is plenty to get in there if you stick your phone straight back and take a picture of it you’ll see it nothing needs to be removed. It’s about a 15 minute procedure to remove it and replace it.

      I have the same issue. Drove a bit this morning noticed zero pressure. I stopped and checked the oil just to make sure I had oil, lol. There were no obvious leaks. I didn't get a good measurement from the dip stick but I was just making sure it has oil.
      Got home, parked, let it cool & settle and oil level is good. Is it possibly pumping oil but indicating there's no pressure? I purchased the sensor and plan on replacing it tomorrow. I'm just worried it's something worse and by worse I mean expensive.

    My 2012 Silverado oil gauge would drop to 0 after running down the road for 5 min. Display said shut off the engine. After a few min shut off and restart the oil gauge was fine 40psi.
    I replaced the sensor and screen. During removal I could not ID the clip holding the wire connector to the sensor. I just pulled the connector up and removed the sensor and screen. I saw a method on RUclips to thread a screw into the filter that worked fine. I replaced the sensor with OEMAC/Delco parts.
    Oil pressure gauge came right up to 50psi.
    I did an oil change and filter.
    Next time I drove the truck it happened again! Pulled over shut it off. Restarted immediately and had full oil pressure.
    I’m thinking the connector warms up and gets loose due to no hold down clip?
    Any thoughts.

      Marty Van Haren higher mileage vortec engines don’t like synthetic motor oil. At least in my opinion and what I’ve seen. Also it seems to sound like you might have a bad O-ring from the oil pump pick up to the oil pump, that is a known issue with low to no oil pressure problems. If your truck is not a four-wheel-drive it’s pretty simple to drop the oil pan and change the oil pump pick up tube oring, I hope this helps keep me informed.

    • @fixersautomotive4514
      @fixersautomotive4514  6 лет назад +1

    • @937anme
      @937anme 6 лет назад

      Fixers Automotive oh ok, so then my next question is by clearing the code then are we telling the pcm to not ever show it again or, isit something that if that sensor ever goes bad again if that's the case, it will bring the code back?

    • @fixersautomotive4514
      @fixersautomotive4514  6 лет назад +2

      937anme by clearing the check engine light code your telling the pcm that the problem is fixed and the pcm will run a self test when you start it up and if it was fixed correctly it will pass the test and the light will stay off. Also what you can do is removed both battery cables, touch both cable ends together for 10mins. This will discharge all the back up power in the pcm and it should reset, doesn’t happen all the time but worth a shot. Good luck.

If the dip stick is dry get a oil change and make sure the shop reset the oil life percent. If you have a 5.3L Engine the oil capacity is 6qts U.S. Hope this helps. Thx and good luck. 👍🏼

      Juan Macias so the next thing you would have to do is look in the hole where the oil pressure sensor there is a oil screen that gets clogged up and won’t allow oil to circulate. Most of the time it’s easier to remove the intake manifold in order to get the oil screen. The other quick check is to install a mechanical oil pressure gauge into the sensor hole and start the engine and see if you have oil pressure on the mechanical gauge. You can normally rent the gauge tool from your local Autozone or parts house. Hope this helps and let me know. Thank you.

      Juan Macias ya man, don’t start the truck for longer then like 30 seconds w/ no oil pressure. It’s very rare that a oil pump just dies w/ no warnings. Where there any other problems w/ the truck before the no oil pressure dropped?

    So I know this doesn't have a ton to do with this video but was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. Upon starting my engine the oil pressure is just above 40 after it warms up and is driven a bit it slowly drops down eventually to 0 and tells me to shut off engine. I have replaced the sending unit and screen. This seemed to fix the problem for a couple weeks. I then changed the O-ring on the pickup tube last night. Refilled with fresh 5w-30 synthetic oil and did a test drive this morning and still having the same problem. the engine never sounds like it isn't getting enough oil to any part. If anyone has another direction to head I'd appreciate any ideas. Thank you.

      If I was you, I would install a mechanical gauge w/ a hose that’s long enough to read w/ the hood closed. Install the gauge in the same hole as the oil pressure sensor. Take it for a drive and see if you lose oil pressure. If the oil pressure drops again. Then it’s your oil pump. Worse case scenario if the oil pump doesn’t fix it then it’s inside the block. Maybe main bearing wearing out. How many miles you have ? Also maybe use a thicker base oil 20w50. Hope that helps.

      That sounds like a collapse lifter making the ticking noise. You might have to remove the valve covers to see if there are any loose rocker arms and pushrods.
