- many of you may have questioned why I have slowed down on making videos and its for a collection of reasons like large life changes and spreading myself thin but this without a doubt played a big part in it. I feel like this event should have been no big deal as it is very natural but it was the event that pushed me over the edge. I have been depressed for months and while I embrace moments in my life where i become depressed because i know that i will grow stronger as a person because of it, its also a reason big reason for me to be silent and reflect on life and what is going on around me. A very big part of this channel is the voice over and if I am not in the right mental space just expect me to back away when needed. I feel that is for the greater good. Healing is an ugly process and I don't want to say anything that will create a negative seed in someone else's life.
All that said the last few months have been such an awesome thing for me and have allowed me to start breaking out of my BS. I was able to giveaway a brand new mower away in Louisville KY and then spent 2 weeks working (something that I love to do) everyday doing power washing in Arkansas from there I came home and lawns were starting to wake up so I got to cut some grass....something I love to do. lol then I got a call from my friend Al in Florida and he asked me to come down and cut some properties with him so I took the family down to Florida for a week. I knocked out a bunch of work then spent a few day at the beach with my wife and daughter jumping waves in the Ocean. On top of all of that we found out that Rachel is pregnant and we are expecting out second child. We are super excited for our new addition to the family in November.

He is not he's a great guy who is doing a fantastic job and making people happy..he's definitely renewed my faith in people.
My neighbor committed suicide, we noticed his car had not moved for several days and we called the police for a well being check. I had to go inside when the officer arrived to secure his very protective German Shepard and no one in his family wanted her. We went to the shelter and rescued the poor thing because she was absolutely traumatized after spending days with her deceased owner. We had her for ten more years and I know my neighbor would have been happy because he loved his dog.
That’s awful to hear, condolences to the family, you are a hero for taking that dog in!

@Ryan Houghton . No one said anything about the dog eating any part of my neighbor. You clearly went to a very dark place here. He had arrangements for his brother to take his dog and his brother refused leaving her in the animal shelter traumatized. People have depression and it gets worse when they can’t pay their bills or get lonely and people like you making ignorant comments make things worse for some , try being nice it may be hard for you but you could try.

You saved the deceased's family the horror of finding the body themselves. You also saved them the trouble of cleaning up the yard and having to see the abandoned appearance of the house. You gave the deceased and their family a real gift.

@@RissaNicole84 What a terrible thing to say... I served for 23 years in the military, over half of which was served overseas, including 3 combat tours... You have no clue what is going on with that family; they could have been close, but due to circumstances not been able to see each other for long stretches of time. If anything happened to my family while deployed to Iraq, it could quite possibly be that I wouldn't have known anything until returning from deployment. By the looks of the grass in the front yard, it couldn't have been more than a month since the last yard trimming (some people let the back go longer between mowing than they let the front go). What if the family is in another state, what if the family went on vacation? You really don't have a right to be judgmental without knowing the family nor their circumstances!

Ever hear of a phone?
I did lawn maintenance for 20 something years and I had one client that was a home body( never went anywhere) usually I would see her in the house and she would wave at me when I was there. One day I didn't see her. Mind you I was there every 2 weeks! I tried to call her on the phone but there was no answer. So I called her son and talked to him. He come and luckily she was alive but had fallen and had been there for several days before i come by. I couldn't imagine finding something like this. The lady in my story went to the hospital and was back home 2 weeks later when I come back. Her son thanked me for calling him and she asked me if I could come by weekly to make sure she was ok. Told me if she didn't answer the door to unlock it and come in. She left me a key! She was 95 when her son call me one day and told me she had passed in her sleep years later. I'm greatful to have known her and her son, and they were greatful for me. I even visited her in the off season just to check on her.

My father in law was found in the summer approx a week after he died. You saved that person's family a ton of trauma, and you handled the situation with dignity and respect. I'm very sorry you had to go through that.

Nobody found this person except for the man who was taking time to do a good deed. Who ever they were in this life that time has past. But because of you they are laid to rest. I've been a paramedic for 16 years and have been called to many scenes like this. Don't dwell on the details of your imagination. Good hearted people are in danger of feeling too much because that's naturally what you do. People ask how do first responders handle what they see. First thing is as I said above, we don't dwell on it. Concentrate on the good of the job, protect your mind, be strong and move to the next good deed. Thanks for the video. ironically it's the same in animal rescue. yeah we are all good people, but the ones who care to much are the ones that burn out. :( you have to learn to "switch off" or compartmentalise (for lack of a way to fully explain it), and focus on what good you are doing, because if you focus to much on the negative (and there is a lot), it will take you down such a dark path that you will not be able to help others. First rule many carers brake, and those with big hearts can't always handle. "you can not care for others if you do not first care for yourself. "

@@Blackfox_Kitsune I rescued actively for two years. I have diagnosed PTSD, four of my own foster fails, and frequent nightmares because of what I saw. I can't imagine those who deal with the deaths of human beings, when seeing the awful things that people do to dogs was enough to damage me emotionally in a severe and permanent way. Thank you to everyone who does this for animals and for humans, and the respect I have for those who could continue to do what I could not is immense. Humans can be so very, very evil, and nowhere is it more evident than when looking at those who cannot help themselves, whether the victims are canine or human. There are some truly despicable people in this world, but the heroes that rescue dogs and/or other humans in need are amongst the bravest and most selfless. They are truly the best society has to offer, and I'm so profoundly grateful that not everyone was as weak as I ended up being. I'm ashamed that I could not continue on, but I am proud of what I did accomplish while I was an active rescuer. I directly rescued 19 dogs myself, fostered quite a few(and adopted 4 of the ones I fostered), and assisted or participated in more than 100 rescues from injured strays to endangered animals being sold or given away on Craigslist. It wore me down emotionally and psychologically, and I'll never forget some of the horrific things I saw. I couldn't do it for very long, but I have to believe that I at least made a little bit of difference in the lives of those dogs I was able to help. Imagine how many animals are helped by those strong enough to do it for many years. I'm in awe. Honestly. Thank you for carrying on where I could not. 💙
If the windows were opened to air out the place, someone already knew about it. Can't help but wonder if it was a homicide or neglect/failure to call medics if due to natural causes. RIP to the individual that passed.
As a firefighter, usually it's folks like you or mail carriers that notice things a neighbor wouldn't. Good on you. Never feel bad for doing the right thing.

@@bobobob5108 That's one way to be as a neighbor. If it works for you, great. But it's not the norm. Most people are aware and do notice patterns. I like my privacy and prefer people out of my business. That said I would also like people to notice if something seems off pattern or not normal. We're all here on this one planet & should be helping each other. People always use the saying that it's none of their business but I think it's just people don't want to care of make an effort. I feel most strongly about it when it comes to seniors. They are vulnerable and could use the neighborly support.
Yeah no that's not a thing here. Here the norm is to be cordial with ones neighbours, but you would never be close enough with them to "notice patterns" beyond 'Oh, that person might have moved out'. It's not about lack of care, it's about respect for other's privacy.

I don’t know the story on the deceased , but for a lawn worker to notify the police because of a scent of death in the air saddens me. It shows this person had nobody or they would have been found . Thank you for caring
I was a police officer for 27yrs. You would be amazed at how many people just walk away from the area without doing anything because they didnt want to get involved. I had one where a guy who cut grass found the home owner dead then proceeded to steal his belongings. Take care. You did the RIGHT thing even if it turned out to be nothing.

Geez, what sort of person does that, steals from a dead person like that? Then again, a friend of my brother had a stroke while she was driving a few months ago, she's 23 years young. Crashed the car and while she was lying on the ground outside of the car in a coma, someone stole her purse and phone...

I have been a Funeral Director for 26yrs and have made dozens of removals like this. It never ceases to amaze me that people are so consumed with life , that no one checks on neighbors or notices 10 newspapers in the driveway or a sudden stop in lawncare. I get it, I go a week without checking on my parents too. We all need to exist more in reality, not just through a screen or monitor. To have good neighbors, we got to start being one. Thank you sir for being a good neighbor!
Exactly. Someone had to notice. It baffles me. The neighbors obviously never saw anyone move out, the yard becomes overgrown and no one questions anything, even call for a welfare check anonymously.

The whole thing is so sad. I would notice my neighbors lack of lawn care, trash cans not being taken out, possible lights being on constantly but no sign of my neighbor.
You handled this situation with exceptional professionalism. All while protecting your wife from what your intuition was telling you. I hope you’re recovering from this experience. Take the best of care.

But someone must have known the person was dead bc he said the windows were open unless it was a elderly person? The who thing is sad . I am glad as a plain clothes Federal Law Enforcement Agent I never have seen anything like that .
This is why it is important to get to know your neighbors. Especially the elderly ones. They may not have family or family nearby to check on them.
Honey this is Tulsa Oklahoma people in Oklahoma City really don't give a fuck about their neighbors or other people why do you think he was the only one that called 911 when he smelt it you can tell if a smell is so strong like that of death that person has been in their dead for a while a longer than 3 days and then the fact that someone open the windows and you never know maybe the person that passed away open the windows before they passed away
So very true I've seen it in the apt. complex I live in. Actually got hold of the office for a welfare check on a person who was quite loud and disturbed then the person was silent and I had a feeling. It's very disturbing to come across and my heart goes out to this man and the respect shown and the way he handled it as a citizen of the town and called for a welfare check

I usually check in on my elderly neighbour that lives right below me at least once a week. She is very healthy and I often also just see her out and about but still, her kids don't live close and especially during the last two years we all just kept an eye on each other.
Work in law enforcement and not everyone would have handled this as respectfully as you did. Shows what a good person you are.

This is no coinsidence that you were mowing this grass when you did, you gave back the deceased person dignity by making their yard presentable again and bringing closure to a sad situation. Much respect for how you handled this and for what you do helping others. Also, protecting your wife from a upsetting situation was stellar and is a testament to how much you care for her.

This is the first time I've ever watched this channel and I thought the same thing. God led him there for a reason, although it might not seem like it in the beginning. If God leads you, he will see you through it no matter what. I'm sorry he had to see and smell what he did but it will soon be a faded, stinky, memory, I've had a few of those and then the blessings are going to come pouring in.

When the family showed up in what was undoubtedly a traumatic situation. They did not have to walk through waist high grass to reach the home. They will not need to hire a lawn service to list the home. You did a good thing.

I realise that this is two years ago now, but I have only just seen the video. It was so good that you were able to notify the police and start the wheels rolling for this tragedy to be dealt with, and the family to be notified. If you hadn't done your good work so thoroughly who knows how much longer it would have been, before anybody else contacted the police? I'm surprised that the neighbours didn't recognise the smell and call the police sooner - it is unmistakable as to what it is!!
I have suffered with depression in the past too, and I know that what helped me was to "keep on keeping on", and day by day you begin to realise that life doesn't hurt quite so much any more. I hope you and your growing family are thriving. 🤗

Can you do an update...Have you gone back? Do you know who this person is? How old were they,? Did they dump the body there and left. It's something very odd regarding the neighbors and they don't smell that SMELL. He's correct it's a smell that's EXTREMELY EXTREMELY FOUL. worse than 10 dead rats or dead dogs. You know it's death. Your body will almost immediately make you regurgitate due to it being so vile.
So sad the neighbors didn't notice, you did this lawn for a reason, it was meant for you to help this Soul move on 😔

@@dudeman5788 Agree totally. I am an 80 year old widow that has lived in a public golf course community for 5 years and I know not 1 neighbor that I coukld call. My girls check on me once a day but it is still very disturbing that someone passes away for days and not a soul knows about. Who opened the windows???? One neighbor thought the house was in foreclosure!!! DUH!!!!!

@@sharonshoop495 These are fundamental flaws that are dangerous to maintaining a civilization. I am a huge dog lover, but I routinely witness people who treat their pets (cats/dogs) better than they treat other human beings. Please don't take this the wrong way, but hopefully in your lifetime you'll not have to witness society devolving into a full-on state of barbarism again. I do believe it's coming though (and more rapidly than ever). My estimation is 30-45 years.

My friend was inside her house and I was pounding on the door leaving voice-mails. On day 4, her neighbor and I called. She had been gone the whole time. Her death was alcohol induced ,her family said my voice-mails made them and the police laugh out loud during a horrific find. She had cats.

My husband had a similar situation. He cleaned a pool for an elderly woman living alone. One week he went over to clean the pool and saw her lifeless body on the floor of the dining room at the sliding door by the pool. It's a sad thing to find. So sorry this happened to you doing something nice for a someone. Thank you for all you did to help the situation.
Anytime someone dies outside a hospital or care setting the police are called out and the scene is treated as a crime scene until it's determined not to be. Thank you for the good work you're doing on behalf of the community.

The thing that made it actually suspicious is the fact that someone purposely opened all those windows, and the body was still in there.
Pretty sure the person didn't open all the windows to air out the house after they died.
Finally, some common sense!
It very well could be the family knows of this death and is collecting SSRI or something instead of reporting the death. That might sound a bit far flung but put the pieces together and you have someone who knows there's a death in there and is airing it out. And no family has reported a missing relative. The windows being opened and a body inside is certainly reason for calling it a crime scene.

I'm a disabled Vet, I medically retired a few years back after about 11 years in. I got my first house in a small town near a Great Lake and we had our 1st kid. We didn't have much money for anything but a push mower and my knees are shot. I figured I'd just push through it, but that didn't really pan out. My brother in law shows up with a buddy and take care of my whole yard, leaves and everything. I kind-of hid from the window until they were done out of shame but I can barely explain how grateful I was/am. Another family member gave me my grandpa's old riding mower they inherited after he passed. You are really doing a service that goes un-noticed.
If you don’t mind me saying so, I Thank you for your service. I have a decent amount of my family members who serve[d] in the Military, so I definitely hold a large amount of respect for those who served for this country.

Red Man may I suggest you never be ashamed of getting help from friends and family. This is a sign of respect from them. And I am learning our shame comes from us not loving ourselves enough, which usually stems from what we learned from our childhood (sounds like a lot of phsyco babble, but the older/more mature I get, I realize there is some truth to it and I don't have to blame anyone for it and the good news is, we can change that mindset). Hold your head up high when you receive blessings like the ones you described. You are a much loved man. Thank you for your service, my fellow armed forces member. Not all of us see combat, but we all signed up knowing we might be at risk of some level of danger.
Don’t you ever EVER feel ashamed. Hold your head high sir! I’m young (ish) and chronicle disabled and a chronic pain sufferer but I do love our riding mower we now have at the farm. For the last 10 years I wasn’t allowed to use my father’s big one. He got a small John deer or similar, the validation is extreme to be able to shove that “I can’t” into the next territory. Thank you so much for your service. I'm the daughter of two Korea Era vets. Dad's still alive but my mom passed away in 2016. She was in her 80s by then and was disabled. Her room mate, a lady who had shared the house and life for over 50 years (they were both divorcees) had passed away and I didn't know that she was having depression to the point she was. Her lawn, which she had kept clean and neat for almost 40 years, got overgrown. I got a call from a lady who knew mom, that the yard was overgrown. I called her and asked, she didn't know anyone to call for help. I honestly didn't either and the quotes we were getting for cutting it were out of our price range. My husband or my son would have done it but we all live 700 miles away. So, I got to calling first the VA and then the VFW, which my mom was a member of. They didn't have anyone but they said they would ask around. There was a female reservist who was home on a month furlough that volunteered to go and help. She not only did the grass, she did some grocery shopping for my mom as well, and took dog food for mom's dogs. I was so thrilled that she was there for mom.
It wasn't long after that mom was unable to care for herself any longer. She was in a nursing home and she told me she led the "great escape" out the emergency exit for about 20 residents who heard the ice cream wagon coming and they all wanted to buy ice cream. Yeah, that's mom, getting into "trouble" and leading the rest of everyone into it too. I miss her.
Don't be ashamed that you couldn't do the work. You have a reason. And reaching out for help when you need it gives someone else the opportunity to give, something they are wanting to do, just like Lawn Care Juggernaut. Had a similar event with a next door neighbor. Thankfully my wife and I discovered it in time before his dog starved to death. Poor thing is quiet by nature, so we had no idea. It was only when we went up to the door that we heard weak whining and scratching at the door, that we had a bad feeling. The neighbor always took his dog for a walk 3 times a day, like clockwork. The moment he stopped and the news papers were not picked up from the driveway, is the moment we did a friendly wellness check. That act saved his dogs life.
Be a good neighbor and pay attention to those around you.
My neighbor passed after returning from the hospital (no one knew she was discharged) ..well, she had a big dog. A month went by and the dog was going nuts.. to cut a really long story super short... the dog ate her to survive I assume.. but was put down afterwards. They scooped up her poor remains & put them into some kinda medical bag ? Idk.. I watched it all go down, me & my mother called for the welfare check. Still feel really bad about it all to this day. God bless.

I'm a retired emergency flight nurse. I've seen things that nobody should ever see. Please take care of yourselves first. Coming unexpectedly upon something like that can really mess with or disturb some people. Never be afraid to ask for help if you need it. Have a most blessed day!
Definitely important to take care of yourself and your own mental health first. I’m part of my local volunteer fire department but we’re a small area so we’re also the only local ambulance so a lot of our calls are EMS related rather than fire related. It’s definitely hard to deal with a lot of the stuff that you see especially without being able to talk to your family or friends about it because of hipaa. One of the biggest things the chief stresses though is to either talk to other guys that are part of the department about it, or seek professional help if you believe it’s bad enough. He also constantly stresses that we should feel comfortable letting him know that we need a break from going on calls if we start to struggle with any of it. In fact he forced a few of the guys who went on a particularly rough call involving a child to take a break, he didn’t let anybody on that call come to any calls for 2 weeks.
It never hurts to talk to a counseling professional. Especially after that.
I’m a 20 yr police dispatcher who left that life to become a RN. Thank you for all the people you helped as your time as a nurse. This happens more than people would like to think - passersby calling in that “smell.” I’m happy to give this video a LIKE and 👍.

I find comfort in the thought that this person was found because of someone doing a good deed. Whatever the circumstances of this person's life and death, there was someone caring and wholesome in their vicinity who brought help. An unwitting angel.

His sister wrote from out of state to let him know their mother had passed. The dear old lady had lain undiscovered for longer than anyone would like. What you did this day was a mercy to strangers you will never meet, people like my father.
If she was so dear, how come noone was checking on her more often? It always surprises me when children leave their parents abandoned (only occasionally checking on them to feel good about themselves), then Pikachu face when the elderly is found in that horrible situation. I'm a retired critical care nurse, worked CCU, ER, burn ICU and burn ER. I would have to switch to acute admitting psych, to simply change the work environment, to deal with the "burn out" that nurses get. When I saw horrific things I had to hold myself together to do my job. When I got home I cried hard. You did really well keeping it together and calling for a well check. 🙏

As someone who has been burned and gotten skin grafts from the knees down, (in places i was burnt to the bone) I have great respect for nurses who work in burn units. When I was there I had to leave early against medical advice. I had no choice. My 3 teens were home alone and my husband (now ex) was working away from home. Someone had to be there. One of my nurses was in tears and begged me to stay. I was very very lucky that I had a close friend who was a nurse that came home with me and did my bandage changes. My nurse in the hospital was terrified I would lose my legs. To see her actually shed tears for me, basically a stranger, showed me how much care goes into what you do. So I want to thank you because I can't thank her. I didnt think to get her name. It was a very hard time for me but her caring greatly helped my spirits. And just as a side note I am fine. I had no infection or issues. I was very lucky and lucky that my good friend knew what she was doing. Anyone who knows teenagers knows it is not a good idea to leave them alone for god knows how long. I was lucky I had someone there for the first five days. It was then that I had to go home. I would also like to say to the couple that took care of this lawn, god bless you. You have another subscriber just because I think that how you handled this was indeed respectful and what you do is so very kind. It is so good to see good people. The last few years have been trying for us all, so seeing and hearing all of this, as well as peoples stories is a wonderful thing. Thank you all.

We had a 6.6 earthquake and the hospital was destroyed. The County of Los Angeles transfered me downtown to the county general hospital. I was blessed to have a job. Many of the employees were let go. You sound very courageous. I completely understand you putting your children first. I am very glad that you had a nurse friend to help you. Teenagers will definitely take advantage of some situations. I could write a book on them, and my ex husband too. I'm 73 now, and am at peace. It sounds like you are too, I hope that you are.

Abandoned homes have been a slight fascination of mine, but they always come with a wave of sadness. Wondering of what happened to who lived there and what their story may have been. I worried my boyfriend's house would have the same story after he suddenly passed from his addiction, after I found him 12 hours too late. Thankfully our neighbor bought the house and it was surprising that it didn't take years to go through probate courts. It's just hard to think that someplace that is called home for however long, suddenly fades into the past.
I can tell you and your wife have such pure and kind hearts. It was very uplifting to watch you two. Plus you are great at educating people who are interested in lawn care techniques. I loved how patient you were with your wife and how sensitive you were to the individual who lost their life as well as their family. No shame in feeling some type of way about this and no shame in taking care of yourself! Even if it means never doing a video again you've still done so much good. Also, I'm a first timer on your channel as well but plan to go back and watch other videos!

Had the exact same thought... took a stranger doing a good deed to find out this happened. It's really sad that not one of the neighbors came to check on this person when things started getting overgrown, etc. I can't blame them, I'd probably make the same assumptions with the way things are now. Back in the day, everyone on the street knew each other and the busy bodies didn't miss a beat. Now it's either face-in-phone and see nothing around you, or see everything and keep it to yourself. Crazy upside-down world.

For the record, when a bank forecloses on a property, they tend to take care of it. Letting it get overgrown like this is a magnet for criminal activity. You were simply doing an act of kindness, not only for the owners of the house; but, you were also helping the neighbors and neighborhood! I'm so sorry that you had to have such a sad discovery on a great day! However, you did the right thing by call the police and notifying them of the smell, and the windows all open! When the police arrived, you went and spoke with them, waited as they asked you to do, and then you filled out the paperwork they gave you!. I know you would've liked to finish the job you started; but, with the police finding a deceased person in the house, and you said it was now a crime scene, the police probably didn't want anything disturbed, even grass clippings in the driveway! You did an excellent job, called the police with your possible suspicions, worked while you waited around, and that's all you could've done! It's a sad world, and very unfortunate for you that day. I'm sure your wife was upset when you told her also. Both of you are very good samaritans! I think the deceased would be happy to know that even though they passed away alone there is some sense of dignity maintained. By having the yard look so beautiful as they are removed from their home this provides a certain level of respect and honor.
I was a CSI for 6 years and still work in evidence. Thank you for doing the right thing and calling it in. A lot of people would have just left, not wanting to get involved.

That person may not have any family around to report that anything has happened or any family that lives close by. Thanks for doing the right thing! My mom used to take care of this elderly man and she would help him grocery shop, cook him food in a big batch for the week, and just other random things.. One day she came over and told me how she hadn't heard from him and she was worried about him because he wasn't answering his phone and that was not like him.. I had a decent relationship with him too so I told her ok let's go over there and see if we can get in, maybe he fell and is hurt or something.. So we went over there and his mail was in his box, nothing in the trash can, car in the driveway, I tried getting in all the doors but when I walked by his bedroom window I smelled something awful.. I asked his neighbor if she had seen him out on his porch or anything and she said no so I told my mom we are going to have to call the police momma.. I called then and asked them to do a wellness check, I told them they would probably need to break in so they came and did and found him deceased in his bed.. He had been there for a few days.. the worst part about it was he lived right across the street from his niece and she showed NO concern for him, wasnt worried about it and never bothered on checking on him.. She sure was interested in his money and estate once he passed though. Made me absolutely sick.. He was a good old fella and was always so nice to me when I was a young girl.. He called me skeeter lmao.. This was back in 2007 and I was 17 at the time but this always stuck with me.. Rest in peace Pug ❤❤

Also retired cop here. You did a good thing Brother. Death is tough no matter how many times you encounter it. This happens quite often with the elderly. The kids move away and are just too busy to check on their elderly parents or grandparents. Sometimes they are the last of their family, are I’ll or disabled, don’t get out much if at all and neighbors no longer check on each other. If you have elderly folks living in the area, haven’t seen them in a while, check up on them. They may have fallen or became very ill. If they are alright, just say hi and that you are just making sure they are ok. A little kindness goes a long way.

@@baidykle1 We don't do that very much in the US. At least not in the hot places. It's not just warm it's HOT and opening a window just makes it worse. We have deadly heat for long periods in a lot of the US. That's why about 70% of homes have air conditioning. Even in the "cooler" months like spring it's 25C+ and the pollen is crazy. For example yesterday where I live was 30C and we're in spring. Summer is 35+

Kevin, this happened to my father. He passed alone in his home & no one knew. He'd set up a window repair & the repair man thought it was odd he didn't answer the door & followed his instinct; watched my dad's house, just as he drove around to his appts that week, saw dad's truck never moved. He called a wellness check. I am FOREVER grateful to him. FOREVER grateful. His kindness saved the lives of dad's 2 cats & 3 little dogs and my soul. Dad had mental issues & estranged himself from the family. I loved him very much & understood his current behavior was his illness, not him. Addicts were squatting in his home & stealing his things while he rotted on the floor. (no, it was not a large home. Addiction steals a person's humanity.) Being disturbed by this situation is VERY understandable. Please know you were a God send to that home owner. Seriously. I also have chronic, severe depression & know it lies to me about my actions & overwhelms me with dread when issues of responsibility appear in my life; it wants to make me fear & steal the good from my life. From watching your videos, your depression is lying to you, you CAN handle anything, any mistakes will be ok. you demonstrate decency in these videos, people need to see that demonstrated. Seeing the best of what we should be to one another is what is important. You are one of the good ones. I wish you strength & love.

I have mental health issues, Asperger's Syndrome, ADHD-C, Alexathymia, Depression, Anxiety and a high IQ at 145 pts. I fear I'll die alone because I have trouble connecting with people and am frequently seen as being an asshole even though I may love the person deeply I have trouble showing it in conventional ways. It sucks because I only recently got diagnosed after kinda figuring it out myself 5 months ago. I'm 35 years old and appear outwardly happy but inside is a different story.

Extremely sad. Neighbors wake up. Although in a different circumstance, I live in a very congested city where there are a lot of people and cars on a tight area. So wall to wall street parking. Anywhere you park, someone lives right there. But for whatever reason at night when there are break ins to cars, smashed windows, thefts, vandalism, no one ever hears anything. No one ever looks out window or calls the police. It’s like they don’t want to know, not their car, not their problem. It’s really sad. Another time there was a businessman who worked downtown where at the time there were a lot of homeless intoxicated people. So it wasn’t uncommon to see someone intoxicated laying on ground. It was winter and at lunch this person decided to take the alley. He was an older man. He slipped on the ice, fell and winded up breaking his leg. He yelled for help but everyone ignored him because they thought he was an intoxicated homeless man. So he laid in snow for 2 hours before someone finally got him help.
Kev, you did exactly what you needed to do as a man of responsibility with genuine values. These bites of sadness and brutal reality occur from time to time and we do what we can to push on through. Take care of your family and continue doing what you do.

Anytime there is an unattended death it’s an automatic crime scene. I give you major credit for calling police. I’ve been a first responder for well over 20 years these things are never easy.

I appreciate the way you teach your techniques with the different tools, the way to mow so the grass doesn’t blow in the neighbors yard. You are a great person protecting your wife from the reality of the smell. Thank you for what you do for others. I’m in my mid 60s with physical limitations. I’m friends with my neighbors on either side of my house. Either neighbor will mow my front yard for me. I do things that I can for my neighbors. I’ve tried to be friendly to other neighbors who won’t even return a smile and wave. So, thank you Sir, for being a kind, neighborly person.

I'm surprised too. My old neighbor wasn't home for a couple weeks, but his car was there. We called his cell and turned out he'd been feeling sick he went to the Dr and he had a stroke. He came back a couple weeks after that.
It's possible the neighbors truly did not notice it, or that the smell that reached their house is subtle enough be ignored (at least at that time). The windows of the deceased's house aren't exactly wide open and there is ample space between the adjacent houses. Decomposing fumes are volatile and light so they tend to go upwards instead of spreading sideways. Thus, the odor coming out of the (small) windows can easily be blown up by wind and away from the nearby houses.

I’m glad on my little street, we know most of the neighbors (my adult son is the “go to” for rides to pick up cars from mechanic, check on the grandmother & washes her dishes for her, check on pets & property, yes he works, he’s a gamer too & home) I know the neighbors to right side & down, our other neighbors know the ones on the other side of them & down, a couple are newer to the street and haven’t quite come around (language barrier, but the younger family members speak English) and we all wave to each other, but if something were to happen we wouldn’t know right away though, I’m a mail lady out of the same office so my mailman would ask me if something seemed off, then of course I’d check it out and call)

Something that others may miss is that you seem to have called the police's non-emergency number, which is very responsible.
Not tying up the 911 lines with non-emergent calls is something more people need to be aware of.
I don’t know, they still managed to get four police officers to respond to a non-emergency call.
@@Wormy0172 Their point was that he didn't tie up a 911 operator for this which can also have the knock on effect of tying up firefighters and an ambulance. Non emergency lines mean the police can decide when they have resources and go from there.

I work as a funeral home assistant and can attest to the pungent odour that you described. I’m regularly called out to attend police calls to unfortunate death scenes. It takes a strong constitution to collect human remains in a stage of advanced decomposition. Nevertheless, it is done with the utmost respect and compassion for the deceased and the family. It is a honour to be able to provide the family with some sense of closure and empathy. You performed your duty most admirably. Thank you.

Kevin, what you experienced from that situation was a deep shock and delayed grief. When the young police officer told you about the deceased in the house, the fact that your lovely wife was with you, mowing the lawn, must have hit you hard. You did however, show great presence of mind by slowly and lovingly removing her from the property without voicing your concerns. That took courage and then go ahead and call the authorities. My thoughts and prayers are for you both and the deceased's family. Please don't let this deter you from doing your good work in the community. If you were my son I would be immensely proud.

As a volunteer constable I did a wellfare check off the back of a gardeners call. Fortunately mine turned out for the better, but if not for that call the very old lady may have died on the floor of her bedroom. You did the right thing all the way through this and presented your video in a very respectful way. Thank you.
Shit....... Thats what i worry the most with my Mom.. She's 90+ and i call here every other day. I had a neighbor who had a stroke and spend the night on her kitchen floor. Thankfully i live in a good community that looks out for each other. She was found in the morning. Sadly she still died a week later. But was far more comfortable in the hospital. Sadly the stroke did a number on her.

It's always good to ask for a welfare check. Some 40 years ago, my older neighbor called for help, but I wasn't sure. I called the family and they said he was lying on the bathroom floor after a fall.
It doesn't look like you left a job unfinished, it looks like you did exactly what you were meant to do that day. And though it was of course hard on you, it was necessary, and the most compassionate, caring thing done in the neighbourhood that day. You're a good, kind man, even when it costs you. Well done.

@@dady2439 I obviously don't know for certain, but I assume the poster didn't mean cost as in money, the RUclipsr wasn't being paid anything by the homeowner, so whether they did the job or not the RUclipsr didn't have a cost/loss in that regard. If anything the nature of the video would gain them views and money. I assume the poster meant the emotional cost, the RUclipsr genuinely seemed bothered by the situation, most people would be. We can't smell what the RUclipsr smelled, but anyone who hasn't experienced the smell of death wouldn't know the kind of gut-punch it is to stumble across it. It's a very visceral experience, running across that. Your body instinctively knows what that smell means, I feel. Not to mention everything surrounding dealing with the police, your day not going as planned, feeling sorry for the person who has passed and their loved ones, etc.
Aside from all that, I don't see why so many people shit on these kinds of RUclipsrs for making money doing what they do. He's helping people even in a small way, making money, and doing what he enjoys while entertaining others. It's the dream job, and I'm not gonna knock somebody for that. Good on him, I say.

This is my first time watching one of your videos. I like that you talk about the tools you use. You are doing great things for both individuals and communities. By cleaning up abandoned properties you help prevent criminal activity in the neighborhood as well as pest control. It's sad that you were the one to discover a deceased person, but it's good that the family would not have to wait any longer to know where their loved one had gone to. As 27yr firefighter/paramedic that had to retire a few years early due to PTSD, just wanted to say a few things... First off, you presented this episode just fine, so don't worry about that, if you're still questioning your decisions. It was very respectful, and gave the audience some wise words, and the family your condolences, and didn't speak of any details that would breach their privacy, and you thanked those that deal with death often, so huge props on your edit and way of releasing this video.
Second, I'm sorry for what you saw on the highway that day, and it sounds like you handled it well, I don't mean it didn't affect you, I mean you are aware it affected you. It's fine that you don't like to talk about that kind of stuff, as long as you do once in a while, there's no shame talking to a professional, and if that's not your thing, at least vent to your wife or a friend, or even a stranger on line. Trust me, it cost me my marriage, and almost my relationship with my daughter, you can bury it down deep and cover it up with alcohol or food or drugs, all you want, but it'll find it's way back out no matter what. I'm not insinuating you're doing that, but for anyone reading this, there's still a stigma around mental health issues these days, thankfully it's pretty accepted for those who have served, but with police and fire/EMS, and even just everyday people that might randomly see death or violence, PTSD and mental health issues are just as real, and parts of our society still look at getting help as weakness or shameful.
Lastly, thank you for what you do, first responders and military get thanked all the time, and we appreciate it very much, but feel like we're just doing our jobs, no different than any other person, on top of that, you made it your job to give back, and help out yours and others communities, we need more of that in this country. Plus like @Dean Fischer said, a lot of people would have just left and not even given a 2nd thought or concern, to that smell, so bravo on a great job, and a great channel, I just discovered it and you got a sub for life my friend! @Fk Yu....Well, I'd like to respectfully disagree. About 70% of 911 calls I ran as a firefighter/paramedic were calls where police were dispatched, and on the call, so I've seen first hand how they treat people in a blighted areas, and more wealthy areas, and some I trusted with my life and am still personal friends with, others not so much. I also support defunding the police, and that the culture of being a cop, has become severely broken. The few bad apples is not accurate either for people that blindly defend that culture. It's actually accurate if the whole phrase is used, 'It only takes a few bad apples to ruin the bunch". The "culture" is a problem because, and I do believe it's the minority of cops that are truly bad and dangerous, but the culture of the thin blue line and all that, makes so that it's career suicide if you speak ill of your fellow officer, or if your a police chief that properly disciplines his men and women, or a DA that properly prosecutes bad cops, and the longer that cycle goes on the more normalized and tougher it gets to break,
Defunding the police creates so much outrage partly due to poor naming IMO, and misinformation. No one is calling for lower salary or demoting officers, or go all out purge. But what happens when govt. keeps cutting social program after social program that directly impact the poor, marginalized and people of color, those people no longer have those resources and when 911 is called, if it's not medically related, it gets dumped on the police. There's no reason for two people with guns to show up for an elderly vet who's cussing through an open window because he couldn't get a ride to the VA to refill his meds. All defunding was meant to do is get rid of those few bad apples, and instead of new hires, maybe reopen some of those programs that cause certain 911 calls to be dumped on the police, and maybe invest in programs the require police departments to teach more conflict resolution and dealing with mental health care issues, instead of investing in MRAP mini tanks, and classes on how to be a fearless warrior. They signed up to be peace officers, to serve and protect, not be a warrior.
@Fk Yu ...Now as far as the military, you can't paint them with a broad brush like that, it's what they are trained to do, and like it or not, that's what it takes to have the greatest fighting force on the planet. Now if you think, why do we need the greatest fighting force on the planet, I would say today, we don't, but after WWII, the govt and DOD made a decision that our military should be strong enough to fight two major powers on different fronts, at the same time. Which made sense after that war. Problem is it created the MIC, (google it and sit back) which every aspect of our socioeconomic structure is tied in with now, and the entire world has known that no one can come near us in conventional warfare for the last 20yrs. That's why 20yrs ago many countries that are not our allies started investing in different kind of warfare, and it's already starting to pay off for them, while we can't break the cycle of throwing money at our defense budget.
IMO the U.S. hasn't fought a war or been involved in a conflict that truly protected our freedoms here back at home, or did any kind of nation building, since WWII. That doesn't make it our soldiers fault though. Any good the U.S. did in other countries over the years, humanitarian efforts, rebuilding infrastructure, or just being kind to the locals and trying to lift them up instead of kick down, have been 100% the act of the boots on the ground men and women who sign up to serve. Are there some far right gun loving whackos that join, sure, but every group or type of people on the planet have X amount of folks whos reasoning and ideology are not the best, and you can't condemn that whole group for those few.
War is just an extension of failed political discourse, and as much money politicians make and have invested in the business of war, they need to keep a steady supply of soldiers, why do you think we are one of a very few developed countries that don't pay for university level education, why do you think there has been a stigma on being too smart or educated or a book worm in this country for 50+years, why are so many anti-science people taken seriously or normalized? For one, the govt. wants us just smart enough to work the machines and do some paper work, not smart enough to realize there's only a small percent making all the money. The other is, appx. 65%-70% of kids that sign up to serve during times of peace do so partly or directly due to the G.I. bill. You think if the U.S. had free college, like most other countries, we'd have as many kids signing up to possibly get killed in some North African country their family never knew existed prior to them signing up? Just a thought ✌🏻💚.

This!! I encourage you to see someone professional, Even if it’s only one or two times. I just spent seven months off of work dealing with severe PTSD that turned into seizures. They’re called PNES seizures, they are non-epileptic seizures that are caused by severe emotional stress. I also am someone who loves to work, and being off of work for that length of time was very hard on me from an emotional standpoint as well, not to mention nearly losing my home, my vehicle, and a myriad of other issues. I’m still not allowed to drive any motorized vehicle of any type, which makes it hard to do your job when you are a forklift driver.
It was a combination of some of the things that I saw as an EMT, other life experiences that I had been through that had been very toxic and damaging, and then a final kick that toppled it all down. For a year before the feet seizures started happening I thought hard against breaking down but I didn’t know what I was doing, I didn’t have any coping mechanisms, and I didn’t have good support grounding. And honestly people thought I had just gone crazy. I was severely depressed and overly hyper reactive whenever someone said something off kilter. Fortunately I had a good Doctor Who recognized that I was in trouble and got me to the right people who have basically held my hand is I rebuilt my mental health over the last few months. I am now back to work, still can’t drive (cannot tell you how annoying it is to I have to ask my mommy for a ride at 43 years old!) Fortunately she has been very gracious and help me with basically everything I needed rides to and from. Work has found a temporary position for me in another department that I don’t have to drive a vehicle for. And through this whole process I have learned who my real friends are
that said, well in the end it has been a very positive experience for me, I never want anyone to have to pass through this. It is hard, it is heart wrenching, and it is heartbreaking. Even if you do not think that you need help, just see a therapist once and ask her straight up for coping tips in dealing with something like what you saw.
I find it so interesting how the dead was in the house, but all the windows in the house were open to vent the place out. Speaks of either premeditated death or attempt at a murder cover-up. Crime drama aside; great lawn work!! You know your stuff, and it's beautiful how you share that outward into different communities ❤

You and your wife were meant to be there and make that sad discovery. Because of you, the deceased person could be finally taken care of properly. You are a helper in this life, a sacred role. Please do not feel bad about finding this person. They and their family who loved them, on both sides of the veil, needed someone strong and steady to make the discovery and call the authorities, and you did just that. Thank you. I completely agree. You could have been at any other property in the world and not have your wife show up. This was how it was meant to happen. Her being there gave you time to formulate a plan because you didn’t want here m me to see something bad and that need to protect her allowed your brain time to process. The craziest part is that if you could smell death in the back yard, how could the neighbors not smell that and ask questions. If I smelled that, I would have called the police immediately and asked them to come check the house because it smelled bad.

@Cindy Sergott They honestly could not have noticed, he said in the video it was getting towards fall so people were probably not out as much since it would be getting cooler but not yard work time yet when the leaves fall. Also, if he didn't smell it in the back he wouldn't have noticed the smell in the front, evidenced by how he didn't notice it in the front until he went to the back and came to the front again. Either way it is good that he was there and whoever it was can be properly put to rest
I'm a retired police officer and stumbled on this channel. You did a great service by reporting to the police. I'm impressed by your observation and attention to your surroundings. Even if it wasn't what you thought it was, it was reported to the police as a wellness check.

I was in the mortuary business for many years, and saw a lot of sad and terrible things. You were doing a kindness by trying to clean up the property, I am sure the neighbors really appreciated it, and you helped bring closure for the deceased person by recognizing the signs of death, and calling the police.
Such a shame the neighbours weren't helping out and didn't smell the stench of death 😕

Going by the lawn, that was some time ago.
He couldn’t smell it from the front until after the back was cut down. I wonder if trimming all the overgrowth was blocking some of the airflow… stopping the neighbors from picking up on the full strength smell.
