Hey, idk if you do requests but if possible could you talk about manatees this was a very relaxing and informative video thank you no problem if not but keep up the work
One rare genus of deep sea starfish flips on its back to filter feed marine snow but otherwise filter feeding is 99% brittle stars because of their legs.
I think it’s just his video style lol… he first says the common misconception then teaches us the actual correct information but regardless whether he knew the answer already or not before he says it, still a great way of teaching
I think the creature at 3:40 is a Basket star (Gorgonocephalidae ?) ? It has a distinct center and arms that divide in a lot of places, like a tree branch Seen like that, it looks like those dried ramen you put in water for a quick meal
Starfish always seemed otherworldly to me, like little jelly aliens, I can't be the only one who thinks they shouldn't be called starfish because they aren't all 5 armed or "fish" as they are normally portrayed
@@Nylak-Otter you have a point, though classically stars are seen as having 5 points ⭐ I typed in the word star and autocorrected it to the emoji, proving my point on its presentation as a classic portrayal of a star Though more than 5 definitely can be called stars too!
This production is masterpiece. The colors, the shots, the music, and the narrator speaking slow and clear which is easy to listen for me whose english is not my first language. I love this so much!
We humans have something cool in common with starfishes (and other echinoderms). Vertebrates and echinoderms are Deuterostomes, meaning that during embryo development we both develop the anus first and the mouth last while creating our digestive tract. So yeah, echinoderms are the closest relatives among invertebrates to vertebrates (not considering other chordates of course)
@@burner555 i don't really know if it has an adaptive meaning but it is probably linked to a cathegory of genes that control development in the early stages of life. It just happened that in some moment in life history (probably during Ediacaran period) the first group of deuterostomes started developing anus before mouth. As I said, it's hard to find an adaptive explanation to "why" anus first, what advantage did it gave to fitness, but it happened. (forgive my English, I'm not a native speaker)
Not everything in evolution has a reason, sometimes it's just that it happened to happen that way in our common ancestors, so it's preserved in all its descendants. Molluscs and arthropods are the opposite, so it can happen either way.
I love all your videos, but this one was extra interesting because starfish have always intrigued me and I know nothing about them. I’ve learned so much from this video! Thank you for all your hard work and effort ❤
It's like watching Steve after he got a college education in Blues Clues. The gentlness in his voice makes me want to look closer at my screen to see what he is showing us. 🤣 Video is great. I knew Starfish had eyes, but i didn't know where.
really huge fan of your content. it's very gentle and curious, friendly for kids obviously, but for beginners of any age I think because it uses really accessible words and imagery!
I was an astronomy major in college and I was certain that there were several other things I didn’t know about when graduation hit. Thank you for the engaging and intriguing content; you rock!
I love this channel so much, this crazy new info and details are delivered in such a simple way you can just get sucked into it! I sat my 3yo sister down to watch this one and she sat still through the whole thing!
I have 3 old specimens of starfish, they appear to be the same species but 1 has 4 arms, 1 with 5 arms and one has 6 arms. When you look underneath you can see where the extra arms grew from especially on the 6 arm one as it lost it further from the mouth and the 5th and 6th arm grew from the same spot. Their teeth seem to cover their tube feet.
When I was little I had a big fish tank. While in the process of getting more fish for it, we ended up with just a small, black, and spikey starfish (not sure which kind) and one fish that looked like Dory from Finding Nemo. Little me watched Dory lose a fight to the starfish. At least the starfish got a good meal!
Oh no! That made me laugh while also feeling bad. I could imagine a child watching something horrid and getting traumatized but like, yeah that's life. 🥲
I absolutely absolutely love ur videos the way u explain things while still making jokes and it being interactive is soo dopee also i like the feeling of calmness i get while watching them so relaxing. you gained a subscriber sir!❤

I’ve gotta say, I find your format very endearing. As a parent, it’s perfect for kids, and yet not at all something us grownups can’t appreciate as well! Cheers
I'm so hapoy I found this channel like yesterday. I've always loved to learn about strange ways of being and this channel is a treat! Not sure if I might have missed it and something's there already, but I'd love an episode on the strangest parasites. Like that wasp that manipulates ants and the like. Keep up the fascinating videos!
So happy to discover this video! You answered all of the questions we had about starfish and presented them in a way that was simple and straightforward enough to children to recall these facts later. THANK YOU!
You are so good at this! Nice and easy and we learn So much! I appreciate that. I’ll have to try to find all your videos to watch. You were just talking Couches. Right away I grabbed my shell to see which it was. Thanks!

Wow, what a lovely video, I love sea stars, and this was such a nice way of showing them! The music cues, the editing, all of it is so pleasant and calm, it’s almost like it’s for everyone of any age, reminds me of Mr. Rodgers or similar, such a nostalgic feel for a new video!

hey man! code didnt work. Is it all caps?
The one with too many arms to count is called a basket star. They are trippy
By "your collection" you mean the collection of the place you work at?
Hey, idk if you do requests but if possible could you talk about manatees this was a very relaxing and informative video thank you no problem if not but keep up the work
@@mikehanna8498how do you get to the code thing?
Man! With the way you make your videos, I feel like I'm a kid watching old school PBS. Keep it up! More of this, please and thank you.
Ikr! I was thinking the same thing, that this feels like the new age version of old school PBS shows about animals
Just was thinking that
I just watched the pirrana one that had a more comedic tune and it was just as good!
Dude was literally about to say the same thing, the little music ques and everything has this weird nostalgic comfort to it
Specifically, Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood
3:40 I believe that’s a “basket star”
So yes, a starfish type critter, but more like a brittle star! I’m pretty sure they can get huge too ⭐️
Agree basket star. From brittle star group. Spends their lives glued to soft corals filter feeding.
One rare genus of deep sea starfish flips on its back to filter feed marine snow but otherwise filter feeding is 99% brittle stars because of their legs.
I believe this one belongs to the Gorgonocephalidae family
it is a basket star
I think it has 2,000000 legs cause they look like plant roots, why?
(I'm also not very educated i educate off of these videos)
I really love how you embrace the idea of discovering that you were mistaken about something
Yeah, me too. It inspires trust … to be able to admit when one is mistaken

Don't look as tasty though

I prefer to call them seastars, since, y'know, they're not fish.
wait till you hear about jellyfish
they arent all fish either so lol
At 2:03 there’s one starfish that is flipped over and looks like someone dad getting from the couch
Do cod do cod!!
