As being a composer and pianist, I know the difficulties of playing that soft. Without one single note being too loud in this holy composition, her playing is wonderful.
This is a Hamburg Steinway, they already sound much softer and warm than their American counterparts. I Believe she is also playing with una corda for a most of the piece but that is fine of course if that creates the desired sound as otherwise it is nearly impossible to get this sound on a Steinway. Bösendorfers would be able to make it sound this way without using the una corda pedal at all.
Her control, her voicing of the chords, her total mastery of the pedaling, the musicality of her phrasing, the suppleness of her rhythms... damn! There's no faking it.

Khatia is simply outstanding in terms of performance and absolutely touching in terms of the emotion that goes into her playing of the piano. Thank you Khatia for bringing beauty to this troubled world

Six and a half sublime minutes! Such beautiful music. Just... wow. I have never been able to listen to this piece just once each time. And I keep coming back, often.
Never heard or seen anything like this before. Breathtaking in every way imaginable. I'm utterly stricken. The piano lives on in this new star. Sheer brilliance!
One thing I just cannot understand, is that there could be even ONE person 'disliking' such beautiful interpretation. But there are actually several hundred of these!. The only possible answer that comes to mind is, that all these people, must simply interpret this piece, a lot better than Khatia! Only, nobody knows about them! Anyway. God bless you, Khatia!!
¡Exacto!
there is a lot of envy out there, envious of the music, envious of the beauty, envious of , well everything. these people are not happy people. there are plenty of those!
People can give thumbs down for reasons other than the performance. Many here have commented on the audience noise, maybe there are thumbs down for that. I personally am annoyed by the "artistic" camera work. What's with the closeup of her arm? To be clear I did not give a thumbs down, and almost never give any video a thumbs down.

the breathing, swells impossible on a piano ,the elasticity of her line is remarkable. Pianos rarely sound like this! She is a master of the pedal already! The young crop coming out now have more color, tonal variety than Rubinstein or Ogdon etc could manage. Where did this phenomenal woman come from. Yuja ,she and a few others deserve their stardom!
I totally agree with you, John. She doesn't play piano; she caresses it. And also, she comes from Georgia, and I've heard her giving interviews in english, french and german.
John e martin III I think more recent generations of pianists are more demanding with instrument selection and the technical prep of the piano than former generations. Rubinstein and Horowitz frequently played pianos that sounded unprepared or mediocre. Glenn Gould and Krystian Zimerman are the only ones I know of from the 20th century who were particularly, (and famously) choosy about the piano they played.
I think this is the piano piece I used to listen to my grandmother play some 60 years ago, she got no teacher for piano but her two brothers did, and she basically learned from listening to them practice. So she told me. This was her most impressive piece. Then she played a lot of dance music that i have forgotten about. God bless her memory
This is really a very beautiful piece of music & excellently played. Keeping the left hand so soft & in the background, while keeping the melody focused on the right hand, as well as insuring every single note has its individual perfect tone. Each note gently replies to the previous note, then politely urges the following note to carry the tune forward. Such a graceful performance.
My god, can there every be a single performance of a quiet piece of music where the audience doesn’t make noise 150 times louder than the performer?? That said, her playing is divine.
Yes to all the comments, this is stunning, but I would like to give a big compliment to the audio engineer that recorded this. the mike setting and choice is fantastic and the sound melts in my ears and with a tru maestro playing like and angle this reaches an other level never herd before.
What a stunning, soulful performance. Many pianists play this favorite. I can think of none who elevate it as beautifully as Ms. Buniatishvili. Magnificent subtlety and pure heart.
Standchen and Liebestraum are perhaps the most beautiful interpretations of Khatia. She delivers these two pieces, one can feel, with heart and soul! Enjoy listening them over and over!.

Ignoring the occasional noise from the audience this is a nearly perfect recording of one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever composed. Khatia's control in the slow quiet delicate parts is astounding making the more energetic parts all the more powerful. I also think this has to be one of the finest 'recorded' performances I've ever heard -- the microphone selection and placement as well as the equalization is as good as it get. My god that Steinway sounds spectacular. All in all one of the finest if not the finest recordings of this piece I've ever heard. Congratulations to Khatia and the technical team.

I cannot get enough of listening at this music, such exquisite expression, color without being too bright, so nicely balance between expression and fidelty , a sublime playing🤗
She is superb 👏
Liszt = List ,narodený Slovák v bývalom Uhorsku, hudobný génius ktorého si privlastňovali niektoré štáty, ale on zostal len obyčajným Slovákom, som na neho hrdý.
Khatia is simply outstanding in terms of performance and absolutely touching in terms of the emotion that goes into her playing of the piano. Thank you Khatia for bringing beauty to this troubled world
Every month or so, I drop by here to listen to this. The way she plays this is mesmerizing. Just takes me right up into the air.
Her new CD, "Labyrinth", is on youtube also. What I've listened to so far, is wonderful! Can't wait until it comes out.

I cannot bear unjustified critism. Some say she plays this way or that. Nonsense!!! She has her own style, that is what makes her great.
Try again - 'criticism'. Not so difficult.

Same with me. I would say to those people - do not listen to it, climb a tree and have fun :-)
one of the compositions i often heard my mom used to play, growing up.
love this...love her.

This is by far my favourite and the closest to my heart performance of this piece on the internet!
Interesting view. Thank you.@@Russell_Rieckenberg
Envy rules the world. People "disliking" this, live in their own hell.
how lovely a piece i believe to have the most renditions, there is no single one way to play this song and why it’s one of my favourite
What a gorgeous interpretation! So excited to see her play live soon!
Masterpiece & excellent pianist 👍👍
She plays with heart and soul. The sad song flies through the air.
The most beautiful sound I’ve ever heard. Heaven on earth.
the breathing, swells impossible on a piano ,the elasticity of her line is remarkable.
And also, she comes from Georgia, and I've heard her giving interviews in english, french and german.
and a political activist in Georgia
John e martin III I think more recent generations of pianists are more demanding with instrument selection and the technical prep of the piano than former generations. Rubinstein and Horowitz frequently played pianos that sounded unprepared or mediocre. Glenn Gould and Krystian Zimerman are the only ones I know of from the 20th century who were particularly, (and famously) choosy about the piano they played.
retrogamerdaave: Earl Wild was choosy. He brought along his own, too.
Couldn't agree more. I try to avoid Rubenstein whenever possible. I don't like his phrasing and his technique is lacking.
Honestly this. I was 100% into this sacred music, and suddenly some random noise came to hit my face. Why’d they do this to me…
I agree. People were dropping coins on the floor and banging doors. That was so utterly disrespectful!
Yeah it’s so obnoxious.
i wish people can stop moving around. What they were thinking...
its sad and so beautiful and loving I am literally crying and i don't know how to describe my feelings
Just 'cry & smile' at the same time.
Extreme beauties goes to Sadness - in lots of Schubert works.
What a wonderful message, have a wonderful day:-) Khatia is an amazing pianist.
Then she has done her job.

Salute to Khatia Buniatishvili from. Mustafa, Muscat OMAN. Arabia.
Quelle douceur, quelle grâce ! Du fond du coeur, merci.
Quelle toucher, quelle sensibilité, absolument superbe !
Hands down the best interpretation out there. Unbelievable mastery of voicing. Just wow!
Standchen and Liebestraum are perhaps the most beautiful interpretations of Khatia. She delivers these two pieces, one can feel, with heart and soul! Enjoy listening them over and over!.
Standchen ruclips.net/video/SlTTgJau33Q/видео.html and Liebestraum ruclips.net/video/qH08xIe4e2I/видео.html
Don’t know how she kept her composure and concentration with the loud noises... I’m glad she did.
I don't think she actually hears them.
Oh Khatia, you play the piano so beautifully. Sublime music from your magic fingers - really lovely Schubert piece - it is all about love!- Butterflies flying all around.Thank you so much.
Within the first 10 seconds my mind was still. From there this lady took my soul on a flight most beautiful.
By far my favorite and in my opinion the best version of Liszt/Ständchen. Thank you for this performance, absolutely delightful!
pompodorius agreed!
Please listen to Horowitz ‘s interpretation before reaching such a conclusion. You won’t regret it.
The marriage between energy and control in each performance of this lady never seizes to amaze me

Bin selbst Klavierlehrerin.
In a serenade, you see the moon over a misty sky and the reflection by the lakeside.
In this piece, I am cast into a dream. Her airy touch on the keyboard is ethereal, the sound and experience otherworldly.

So beautiful. Spectacular in every possible way. How could you not love what she has created? It is magnificent by any objective measure. God bless.
