As being a composer and pianist, I know the difficulties of playing that soft. Without one single note being too loud in this holy composition, her playing is wonderful.

This is a Hamburg Steinway, they already sound much softer and warm than their American counterparts. I Believe she is also playing with una corda for a most of the piece but that is fine of course if that creates the desired sound as otherwise it is nearly impossible to get this sound on a Steinway. Bösendorfers would be able to make it sound this way without using the una corda pedal at all.

Her control, her voicing of the chords, her total mastery of the pedaling, the musicality of her phrasing, the suppleness of her rhythms... damn! There's no faking it. It's as if the piano has a voice. To play the piece as she does here is as much a feat as playing through the Rach 3. Only the very best can pull it off.

It's 3 am 29/01/2023 Auckland, New Zealand and we have just had a 1 in 500 year biblical downpour over last 10 hrs.
My garage and property badly flooded & damaged... watching a garage with 2 beautiful old cars flooded... i'm heart--broken and on my 3rd whiskey after all this..... but...
I'm listening to Khatia playing this and strangely, I feel at peace after all this ...
I'm crying into my whiskey, but this beautiful interpretation helps me go on.

Her technical skills are outstanding and her memory is unsurpassed , but it is her making love to those ivories that separates her from all the others. That's how I would be at any kind of concert. Even the few indie rock ones I've gone to. I want to hear the music and experience it, not some guys conversation or other noise. At a rock concert I don't know if that would be disconcerting to the band or not though, but my ideal audience would be silent during songs. That and the hassle of going to a concert and getting there early stop me from going very often; plus I'm lazy.

John e martin III I think more recent generations of pianists are more demanding with instrument selection and the technical prep of the piano than former generations. Rubinstein and Horowitz frequently played pianos that sounded unprepared or mediocre. Glenn Gould and Krystian Zimerman are the only ones I know of from the 20th century who were particularly, (and famously) choosy about the piano they played.

Это просто что то чисто женское такое...нежнейшее касание клавиш и все там выдержано и ...ну что сказать....вечер...серенада..Шуберт. This is really a very beautiful piece of music & excellently played. Keeping the left hand so soft & in the background, while keeping the melody focused on the right hand, as well as insuring every single note has its individual perfect tone. Each note gently replies to the previous note, then politely urges the following note to carry the tune forward. Such a graceful performance.

Ignoring the occasional noise from the audience this is a nearly perfect recording of one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever composed. Khatia's control in the slow quiet delicate parts is astounding making the more energetic parts all the more powerful. I also think this has to be one of the finest 'recorded' performances I've ever heard -- the microphone selection and placement as well as the equalization is as good as it get. My god that Steinway sounds spectacular. All in all one of the finest if not the finest recordings of this piece I've ever heard. Congratulations to Khatia and the technical team.
