Crunchy Cheeseburger Toastie for Babe with

- Today’s recipe is inspired by Babe’s lack of decision making and @SunbeamAustraliaNZ new Turbo Crunch Toastie Maker. I grew up eating this kind of toastie (aka jaffle), but mainly with leftover spaghetti as the filling. The cheeseburger version is pretty tasty! So what’s different with this toastie maker? It has a Turbo button which gives a short boost of power for a little extra crunch on the outside, and the extra height hinge allows you to close the lid from a higher angle (to avoid your sandwich sliding away).
Ingredients
- 250g (9 oz) 80/20 beef mince
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp mayo
- 1 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tsp yellow mustard
- 1 tsp gherkin pickle, finely chopped
- 4 slices white tin loaf bread
- 1 tbsp butter, softened
- 2 slices American cheese
- 6 slices dill pickles
- 1 tbsp oil for the smash burgers
Method
1. Start by preheating the Turbo Crunch Toastie Maker.
2. Divide the beef into 2 portions and roll them into tight balls.
3. To make the sauce, add the mayo, ketchup, mustard, and finely chopped pickle to a bowl and mix well.
4. Place a heavy frying pan on high heat. When hot, add a drizzle of oil. Once the oil is hot, add one of the beef balls and smash it into the pan. Season with salt and add the sliced onions on top. When the burger is almost cooked through, flip it and cook for 1 minute on the other side.
5. To assemble, butter the bread and place the buttered side facing down in the toastie maker. Add the smash burger, pickles, cheese, and some of the sauce.
6. Place the second slice of bread on top with the butter facing up and close the machine.
7. Cook for 4-5 minutes until golden brown, then serve.

I like how it’s the simplest of orders that makes his wife say “perfect, yum” with sheer bliss on her facial expression. But Andy makes some really complex dish and she’ll say “it’s very good”. Sometimes it really is the simple things in life that are the best, and tastiest
Simple dishes do that to me too. I’ll try and make some “next level” things(plus or minus success). Every once in a while a simple patty melt, chopped cheese, hell a blt, a good hot dog. Really can’t beat it.
It's because she knows he can make all this professional food so it's more of an expected but when he has to make something very simple for her she's done really impressed because she thinks he can only make professional meals
It's like moms cooking, I can go to a 5 star restuarant order some overly complicated award winning dish that costs me my mortgage and I'll probably think it was "Aight" but as soon as I go to my parents and my mom makes me some eggs in 10 minutes I think ive tasted heaven💀💀💀

My mother still has her sunbeam press toaster from the 80s. Always nice to get it out and load it up with something delicious. Doing peanut butter and jam in it was my ultimate childhood favorite from it.😊

toasters are awesome. definitely recommend to get cheap toaster, this is probably bit pricey but you can get one with 20 bucks probably or something like that which works just aswell, best sandwiches come out of that thing! it 100% elevates the sandwich with the pressure and perfect surfaces. would love a toaster this fancy though!! cheers from Finland!

Like theyll do the job but i bought a good one recently and it cooks faster and you can put more in them without worrying. Such a good little device

It is the best way to do toasties. The cheese justs melts onto the pattie and through the toasted bread. Some tomatoe sauce or sweet chilli sauce on top for me. Iceing on the cake.🧇🧇👌🤙

They seal the edges as wel so you can put like wetter ingredients in there without it falling apart

Same! I've already hated biting into thick cuts of anything whether it's steak beef or chicken. I like thin patties of slices, filets however you want to word it lol. Thin and crispy is the way to go! 😋

Main differences to a patty melt is that patty melts are usually made on rye bread and use Swiss cheese. At least where I am from.
@@brgorham68 there usually made on sourdough with cheddar where I'm from. Either way using a different bread and cheese dosent change what it is. It's still a patty melt.

The old Jaffle has been a family favourite in my fam since the 50s. I remember my Gran telling me they were invented after the WW2 boom and you used it over an open flame. She bought one from a door to door salesman and I still have it to this day but never used it.
I've got a couple of the old cast iron jaffle makers too. They are the best for camping food made over a campfire or gas stove.

Why is jaffle called jaffle?
Jaffle is the original brand name given to them by the inventor. There's speculation it's derived from waffle, as the concept was inspired by Belgian waffle irons., though I don't know what the J stands for. Technically I suppose we should be capitalising the J and talking about pressure toasted sandwich makers as the generic name - but who has time for that!

Got a Sunbeam "Snack & Sandwich" thingy from the early '80s and it's still going strong. Much better than the modern versions as it is 4 positions not 2 and most importantly, it does not have the "cut in two" so you can crack a whole cackleberry into it.
