    I could listen to you talk shot shells all day.. Could you do a vid on hulls. (difference between brands..thicknesses..durability..etc).

    Clear, to the point, correct amount of detail. Congratulations on an excellent presentation. I need one for adjusting my MEC Sizemaster (28 gauge) to make sure the wads sit comfortably above the powder; as in not pushing against the powder nor leaving a gap above the powder.

    Thanks for the tips. I found them clear and to the point. I have been having some of the issues mentioned, so will try different wads, etc.

    i use a fold crimp. that is what is intended with the Lee slug. load would depend on how fast you wanted to push it and what kind of hull.

    @bahlzar for a shot load that big i would use a WAA-12R (red wad) andovershot cards until it crimps right. alternatively you can put teh cards underneath the shot charge in teh bottom of the wadcup if you are more comfortable that way.

  • @siliconwolverine
    @siliconwolverine  12 лет назад

    @patriotforu one of the short winchester red wads is a good 00 buck wad depending on what hull you have. you may need an overshot card to get a proper crimp with some hulls.

    @bahlzar no the yelow wad should work for you depending on what powder you are using. you might have to add in a filler card or to to get the wad height right.

    Great vid. Good presentation. Thanks for making this.

    @bahlzar its not a big deal as long as it isnt alot above the wad. the shot will compress into teh wad as it is fired. worst case scenario you will get a little leading in your barrel but that should come out with normal cleaning.

    try precision reloading in mitchell SD. they are a high volume shotgun supplier.

    @siliconwolverine Based on your powder video and the load chart that comes with the lee load all2 I was going to use Blue Dot...

  • @siliconwolverine
    @siliconwolverine  12 лет назад

    @bahlzar the claybuster wad is the exact same thing. i just checked and those are in stock.

  • @bahlzar
    @bahlzar 12 лет назад

    I understand about adjusting the shot column and the red wad appears to be shorter so I know I can raise it with the cards, but the cup size looks the same as the waa12, so I guess what concerns me is the amount of shot that sits above the wad cup. Should I not worry about that?

  • @siliconwolverine
    @siliconwolverine  12 лет назад

    @bahlzar it depends on the load. a few 2 3/4" wads transfer to 3" shells but most are different.

  • @siliconwolverine
    @siliconwolverine  11 лет назад

    you need different chokes for steel and you need to use a larger shot size to compare with leads hitting power. ie if you use #6 lead, you need ot use #4 steel to equal the same hitting power and range. i woud look at other nontoxic alternative like bismuth or hevishot, they both outperform steel.

    When you load your slug using your 7/8 oz lee keyhole, do you crimp the end shut? Or do you use one of those BPI roll crimpers? What is a good recipe for a slug using the 7/8 oz slug? Thanks in advance!

    @bahlzar 12 лет назад

    @siliconwolverine I am wanting to load a 3in shell with 1 5/8-1 3/4oz #6 shot....By the info in your video that would take the yellow wad but I didnt know if it would change because I was using a 3in shell....

    if you shoot alot reloading will definantly save you money. If you shoot a couple boxes a year, not really. the break even point is probably around 250-300 rounds per year or so. above that, reloading saves you money.

    QUESTION: what affect does the height of the shot column have on slugs? I am just getting into hand-loading 12 GA slugs; how do i determine the ideal column height and is it better to be slightly over height or under height?

  • @bahlzar
    @bahlzar 12 лет назад

    Does all of the shot need to reside down in the wad or can it be a little above the wad?

  • @siliconwolverine
    @siliconwolverine  11 лет назад

    depends on the type of slug. fold crimp slugs should end up witha factory looking crimp like any other shell. roll crimp slugs need at least 1/8" of crimp rolled inside to assure proper operation and assembly.
    shorter is usally better, cause an over crimp that goes inside teh shell is still shootable, a pooched out crimp isnt.

    I would like your opinion if u don't mind , I'm from the Fraser valley in Bc but go peasant hunting Vernon area ,it's hard to find lead shot , if I do use lead I like # 6 Remington , if cant find lead can't hit worth beans with steel . Any ideas ?

  • @bahlzar

    Well I got my load all 2 and did 300 2 3/4 shells with 1 1/8oz of #6 shot,Red dot (.163) wads cb1118-12...Those turned out perfect. 3in shells I ran into trouble.....Im using Blue dot(.198) 1 5/8oz #6 shot,waa-12 wads which claim to hold 1 5/8oz shot. 1 5/8oz of shot is to much for this wad. I couldnt even get the hull to crimp,So I tore apart a Kent 3in shell I had and they use Field wads,So looks like I need field wads and overshot cards to get the shot column right....Does that sound right?

    Do you use the same wad for a 3in shell as you do a 2 3/4? or are the 3in wads different?

    hay brotha great videos! I'm hoping you could shed some light on an issue I'm having. everything I have is correct for but im still getting the mouth closed in on itself dribbling out shot. bad crimp do I need a longer wad or add more powder or shot or a card? its only on federal premium hulls every other hull turns out great. thanks.

    • @siliconwolverine
      @siliconwolverine  6 лет назад

      Dave Pern need to add a thin card. If the case mouth drops into the shot the column is a bit too short.

  • @siliconwolverine

    what is your reload data for the estate shells please help a beginning reloader i have about 150 of them and i have a lyman 5 edition but cant find anthing about them

  • @siliconwolverine
    @siliconwolverine  12 лет назад

    @bahlzar its not a big deal. unless you shoot thousands of them the leading will be minimal and normal cleaning will take care of it.

    great video, thanks for explaining this so well. i have a question...the height of your cardboard disk representing the charge, will depend on the powder that you use? is that correct? how can i determine the correct powder to wad combination without having to try out various powder types/brands. thanks

    • @siliconwolverine
      @siliconwolverine  8 лет назад

      +Ralph Kluge different powder has different volume. i decide the powder i want to use first and then find wad combination to suit it

    nice ive been playing with the lee 00 buck for a few days and not sure if ive got it figured out .. the red wads are wat i have does this only allow for a heavy load ? or can i sub it safely for a wad haveing a larger crush section

    • @siliconwolverine
      @siliconwolverine  10 лет назад

      if you are using a lighter load, switch to the yellow or white wad as needed.

  • @siliconwolverine
    @siliconwolverine  12 лет назад

    @PUJARTIAGO77 as long as the weight stays the same, the shot size is basically irrelevant.
