It's not really a transition. The camera car just drives forward and a diferent car with a diferent driver accelerates behind, there's no hidden cut. They just speed the footage a little bit to match the music and the rythm of the video

never mind the standard kit. id never get a VW group car that has the HALDEX 4 well drive its shit. they have all the computers in the car and they cant make it rear-wheel biased. look at the Toyota Yaris gr a car that's smaller than the golf but they made it work so how does golf not have this.... it just shocks me
There are deals to be had on the Golf R. I have one on order - fully loaded except the Akrapovic exhaust and leather chairs. Cost £40,400 all in. An A45 is at least £10k more. It's s no brainer.

To be fair though, they're not even supposed to be in the same league with that much power advantage on the AMG.

@@SurelyRaffa I think that might be price discrimination at its worst. Where I live the Golf R starts at € 41k, whereas the A45s starts at € 61k. Fully speced, the Golf R will drag you down € 55-57k, while the A45s will almost reach € 90k!
Think you guys are forgetting that the a45s is meant to rival the rs3, where as the golf R is the rival to the a35/s3, for it to even be considered in the similar league of the A45’s is a amazing engineering achievement! Well done VW in my opinion

@@zain5167 in Australia the R is $72-73000 drive away, while the 45s was $ 104000 lol. The A45s got discontinued though due to very low sales 🤣🤣🤣. So the difference is $30000 or roughly £18000 which is huge.

I thought about selling my C43 coupe 2019 facelift but I can’t do it as I am in love with it as I chose it over the C63 for many reasons except the money, money wasn’t the reason, I just felt it was too much useless power on public roads and I already smoked few in real world with my C43, I know most of you don’t understand that the C43 is the real deal and not the c63 for many reasons I won’t talk about them right now....
As a GTI Clubsport owner i codent have made a smarter purchasing decision as it was the cheapest sport car for the money per horsepower when i bought it. Now the golf r mk8 is almost double the cost, but is it double the fun? Doubt that, (igot same engine and turbo, plus can rip 100% to the front) Im also glad it looks better than all other golfs and most other cars as well. Its tuned now and iv been smashing Teslas, Civic Type R's, Mustangs, and even an R8. Iknow Teslas & R8 shoud obviously be way faster, but None seem to dare to drive it like i drive my Clubsport! And theres when braging rights dosent mean a sh*t, if you cant drive it like it should... 😄 Check videos on it on my channel! 👍
We don't even get the A45S in the states, so I have a deposit down on the Mark 8 Golf R. I'm just hoping with the chip shortage and the way the market is going that it won't be quite as expensive as mentioned in this review.
The closest thing to the A-Class that we have in the US is the stupid GLA. I have been wanting that A45 for several years now.

Let’s be real, just the fact that you have to compare the Golf R with the A45s shows the step up that golf has made with this series. It should be compared with the A35

Just buy a proper rear wheel drive with a manual. These gimmicks are such a laugh and that barely gets used; at least you'd hope so in public roads

Still not convinced to give up my Focus RS.
The "Focus" on auto transmissions only reinforces the type of car this is. Full of computers to get you around faster and win a drag race at the lights, and then to drive obnoxiously around in traffic. Not my scene (maybe when I was 18, but I've matured a little since then!)

The only thing that lets down the Golf R is the interior, it’s so inferior to the AMG, Cos that’s next level. I’d take the A45S all day long.
It’s a matter of taste I guess. I prefer the Golf R interior over that of the A45. The virtual cockpit in the R and the chrome inlays are much more tastefully done and placed than the chrome explosion and the rectangular display screen running across the whole dash. The turbine-style air vents could work... in moderation of cause. Right now, they’re overbearing and a bit overwhelming. Golf R’s minimalistic approach for me... all year round.🤓
The quality of the interior of the new Golf has decreased significantly compared to its predecessor MK7. You have to acknowledge that the merc is far way better here. For the price, the Golf 8 interior is a slap in the face! Its only a Question of money!
@HP-qo9qu I agree! My son has the MK7, and the interior is way better and more comfortable. Even better than my M340i. I prefer the seats in my son's R than my BMW. I saw the new interior in the new R and was disappointed. Everything was downgraded, IMO, while the price increased.

As a previous mk7 golf R owner I'm disappointed with the interior on the new one. The a45 interior is much better quality.
The A45 interior is rubbish. The demo I drove, with 1,100 on the clock had a rattle behind the dash that the dealer didn't know about until I told them. On top of that the switchgear was plain cheap and nasty. The Golf interior isn't much better but costs a whole load less.

The actual interior of a45 is not great, my 35 rattled had dodgy plastic, and was not as good as my previous Golf R 7.5, the interior on new R mk8 is a disgrace
The reason why in my country everyone loves the golf more thn the amg, is the price but the new golf 8 is damn expensive here in South African so might as well go for the amg once....
I'm sure the folks who can afford both won't even look at the VW.

Watching from Harehills, Leeds where these cars sell like cakes off a shelf. Fast , able to park it outside a terraced house and can navigate through narrow streets and fast enough for The M62 commute. The VW is the underdog by far, best for driving, however Mercedes-Benz AMG A45S best for interior and luxury. I'd go for The VW Golf R which is surprising 😮 but I'd go for it.

The A45 is a class act however for a hot hatch to be compared to a hyper hatch i say hats off to the VW on the 8R, now wheres that new RS3 Audi's been cooking up?

It cost considerably more! Plus it has 100 hp over the 8R! I think a better comparison would have been with an A35.

Just to add on, I think all sport and super car manufacturers should collaborate with Akrapovic as they’re an amazing company and it’s also warranty friendly with some manufacturers.

Golf R is my dream car for the longest time mainly because of the simplistic sports car design until today. It's sinful to pay the same amount of money for the Golf ditching the Merc.
Hi, I just bought a brand new A45 S Plus, Patagonia Red, I've only driven 450 miles so far, not gone over 4,500 rpm, at which point it was going over 100 mph, I love this car, can't wait to put it in Sport, Sport+ and race! and I just know, this car will satisfy all my needs, but for now, I'm running it in properly.
In VW, the new MM system isn't usable at all. In Mercedes it works well.

It has to be said that Rory is among the top motoring journalists in the world. Great presentation.
The AMG is beast, but it would be astonishingly more expensive. Here in Canada, the CLA45 (don't have the A45 :( ), is about 15-20k more expensive when comparably equipped to the existing (and likely) the upcoming R. I wouldn't look twice at it as a result. Figure $1100-1200 a month. OUCH.
Great video and showcase of both cars "fun factor". I think for the Golf R's money the AMG A45S is a no brainer, i would buy that in a heartbeat. Faster, more fun, and more premium. I would like to see which car would be first to develop a quality/reliability issue though :p

A45S is truely an eye catcher, VW looks like basically a normal VW golf.
Wow, have you only just noticed that the Golf is meant to be a sleeper design? You do realize this formula has been a success for well over 40 years. The A45 without the Panamericana grill or spoiler isn't that much more radical to be honest.

That two tone rose gold Rolex Rory is wearing cost almost as much as that Golf. But there's one big difference. You can go to a VW dealership, give them 50 grand and you can buy this car.. On the other hand Rolex sport watches have multi year waiting list for most of the models.. But where these two items differ the most is that when you drive this new Golf R from your dealer's lot, your car already lost 10% of it's value. But when you finally get a call from a Rolex dealer that your watch has arrived and you can collect it, when you exist that door sporting a brand new GMT Master II, Daytona or a Submariner, your watch has gained 20% in value and you can resell it for a profit.

You can spend $1,000 every 3 years fixing the Volkswagen or you can spend $5,000 a year fixing and maintaining the Mercedes. So it comes down what can you afford. And I'm pretty sure the Volkswagen will hold its value 50% better than the Mercedes
I have the GOLF R - love it. my daily driver. My only complaint is that VW do not give you the option of a manual gearbox anymore. I drove a 2017 manual & loved it. I am tempted to swap over for a low miles 2018 in favour of my 2020. so much more fun to drive.
