Thanks for uploading this, tried to find an English version for years. Very well-known in Italy, but only watched dubbed in Italian. Nice to watch it in the original language. David Niven and Alberto Sordi, two of the finest actors of their generation
Thank you. An excellent movie. Actually, my father-in-law was there as well. He was a major in the Italian Army and was captured by the British circa 1940. Then taken to India as a POW. He couldn't say enough of the British, he was treated very well. They did treat the officers according to their rank and he was also assigned an aid. How I wish I had asked him more about it.
Wonderful film, brings back memories of watching with my Grandparents as a kid. Who new I would end up living and working in Italy for 2 1/2 years. Thank you for uploading and sharing. Cheers... Grazie mille!
I think the most famous British film involving the Italians as enemies during the 1939-45 war was 'The Silent Enemy' about the Italian midget submarine attacks on British ships in Gibraltar. The one bit that remains in my memory is when a British sailor, on guard duty, tries to start a conversation with a captured Italian diver saying, 'Hey Alfonso, any bambinos?'.
Thank You so much for uploading this....I've been searching for the English version for years. So much better than Italian language with Russian overdubbing (yelling)
Its been decades since I've seen this last. Thanks for posting, I've been looking for this forever. I thought Roger Moore was in it, that's probably why I couldn't find it. I love this movie... "Did Julius Caesar said they can take his mule too".....lol [The doctor was referring to the Captain when he let them escape]
Happy to hear that. I agree, British and Italian humor at their best and there is also a kind of "humanity" that you would not expect between the people of two countries at war, kindness, respect and sharing of emotions and dangers.... Please help sharing this video with friends. This English version cannot be found elsewhere.
After making training movies for the Army he served in Normandy with the GHQ Liaison Regiment (Phantom). In the 30s he had served with the Highland Light Infantry.

👍 Many thanks for the film (parts 1 & 2), which I recall from childhood. Here’s an informative programme explaining David Niven’s actual military service: ruclips.net/video/HJzfP93nm3U/видео.htmlsi=xZmDMJpe3QHTW7T3
Go fight in your own country. Love it. Conquering people armed with spears. How heroic. Down with the Kings of Europe and Russia. Down with King Charles and Queen Camilla. Lol
It's not the best or the bravest who win wars, but the ones who make the least mistakes. This is one of my favorite quotes ever
First Class movie, David Niven and Alberto Sordi and supporting cast were all excellent.
thank you, brought back memories. watched it with my Father who served in Nth Africa, he was on of the hero boys in Bir di Gobi

My Grandfather was taken to South Africa where he was allow to work, as a prisoner, in a farm managed by a English family.
@@francescobruno4808 How fortunate they were. Compared to how the Nazis treated their POWs. And let's not forget Stalin's POW camps.
I saw this Movie when I was a little child and loved it. Now I am an adult and still love it. Thank you!!!!

Franz Yes you're quite right the last scene is very well, there's a kind of shyness between the 2 guys to express their feelings.
It's very funny in this movie, the war between the Italians and the Brits was very civilized, not much like a war.
my all time favorite. i had a copy really bad quality this is much better. love this movei
OH! Here's part two!
There were a number of WW2 comedies in the '60s, culminating in the wretched HOGAN'S HEROES.
Very good movie.
And now we and our Italian brothers have the fuzziewuzzies next door.
It was filmed in israel inbetween wars!
In reality, Niven, who was a Sandhurst graduate, commanded a Vritish army armored car unit fighting in Europe at the end of WW!.
After making training movies for the Army he served in Normandy with the GHQ Liaison Regiment (Phantom). In the 30s he had served with the Highland Light Infantry.
