    Hey Jeff, I love watching your videos and learning. I’m 17 years old. This is my fourth year hunting and I have 116 acres and Indiana all to myself. Trying to avoid putting any pressure on my two ladder stands . Thank you for all your advice

      Put more stands up. Because of wind. Find or create the x pattern of movement. Sit along the path and not just at the destinations. Hunt the weather. If you can, get cell cams and learn the mature buck patterns. Once established, only go when you know he is coming through to minimize pressure. Say from the east in the am is his common path, use that data. Probably most importantly don’t kill 3.5 year olds no matter how nice they look. Just pass and wait on the ones he talks about that are on the move prowling late rut until you have several core 3.5 year olds that feel safe. Good luck and I hope you stick with it.

      From Batesville down south by Kentucky, if you don't pressure your area deer will flock to it. Over hunting in our state is huge if you don't pressure your area deer will naturally go there because all the area around you is pressured, best of luck!!

    I had a few nice bucks and one monster on my cameras in August and September. They absolutely disappeared and not even does were showing up on camera with regulatory. I had a camera in a spot that just looked right. Faint trail going through laurel opening up inside the cover, big historic rubs, where two drainages come together at the top... I slipped in today in the mid day heat and found that a seriously nice 8 was hitting my mock scrape I put in just two days ago at 4:30pm. That first significant temperature drop in October got him all fired up Along with a couple other nice bucks. They were tearing up that mock scrape like it stole their lunch money. Thursday will be an almost 20 degree temperature drop, same winds, same temperatures. I've already put in for the day off with my boss. I'm hoping for a nice mile and a half drag... Thanks for your great videos!

    I just killed my biggest buck with a bow because of you. I'm located in WI! We had a cold front that recently came through. The weather was in my likings.
    I setted up 100 yards from a food source, going down into a creek that funnels into a bedding area on higher grounds. Wind was blowing SE and I was set up perfectly. Waited for the right conditions and everything played out perfectly. Really learned a lot from you. The pre rut is right around the corner. can't wait for rifle season. 👌

    I haven’t made it into a stand yet this year. Every time I’ve had a chance to get on stand the wind hasn’t been my friend. I only have a 5acre wood lot to hunt but by following the rules that Jeff lays out, I have the opportunity to harvest great bucks every year.

    • @joesnausageface8414
      @joesnausageface8414 2 месяца назад

      @@samrichmond2940 this is why I always say each location needs two stands with opposite wind advantages. Both with good access. Build something out of scrap wood if you can’t afford new stands. They are easy. In the 80s we’d make them all the time as kids. I’m not sure you can have too many stands. One of my plots is 60 acres and has 8. Could use two more to be honest. Just depends on the layout I guess. But always be thinking wind when hanging stands. Then hang two.

For example, NH this year, firearm season opens Nov 13 with muzzleloader preceding is by 2 wks!! So if you don't have the means to bow hunt or invest in a muzzle loader good luck-missed most of it already.

    The property we hunt is about 60 acres. It’s mainly 40 acres of soybean field, with ruts running through in the chunks of timber. Nice chunk of timber to the north, and an open field with no crops to the NW. and a neighborhood to the west.
    We have the only crop within about 500-600 acres and the mature deer are primarily using it during the night. And I mean from 9 PM all the way til 4-5 am, I’m getting the same big deer on camera all night. They come from the NW and then 8/10 times they leave through the NW, but it’s before the sun comes up.

    "You have to hunt harder on private land" is the most outlandish thing a deer hunter has ever said 😂 I have hunted private land my whole life until the past 4 years. Been hunting multiple public land plots since in my home state of Missouri. Hunting pressured public land is by far waaayy tougher than private land. You do know your stuff but that comment was wild.

    • @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
      @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751  2 месяца назад +1

      It's easier. Very little money. Very few hours working. No stress about decisions or ruining the land for next week or next month. Just go hunt. Very relaxing. I hunt public land every year to take a break. Heck, I've shot over 30 public land bucks I can honestly say I've spent less than 3 days of hunting, per buck.
      So much more relaxing in so many ways...it ain't even close.

    • @aroettgen87
      @aroettgen87 2 месяца назад +1

      @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 maybe it's a Missouri thing than (our non resident tags are amongst the cheapest in the country) soo we have ALOT of out of state hunters that hunt public land in missouri all season. The pressure is super high, I've had soo many hunts ruined by small game hunters or people walking through my sit. Many times I'll go in and someone is literally sitting 20 yards from where I planned to hunt. You don't have to worry about any of that on private land. On private land you worry about ruining or blowing out your own spots. Not someone else doing it. You control what happens and which location to hunt. I've killed several deer over the past few years on public land but man. I've scouted, put in the time and made gameplans on some nice deer. Only to have it ruined by other hunters. I took my daughter out for youth season last year and literally had a rabbit hunters hound walk into our blind. Soo I definitely do not agree with you. It might be relaxing IF you have private land to hunt and public is an alternative but it absolutely isn't easier or less stressful if public is the only option. The only thing I've figured out is that makes it a little easier, especially during rifle season...is to let other, lazy hunter do the work for me. Let those guys that like to hunt with their vehicle in sight at all times push the deer to me deeper in the woods. It's Def less fun for me though. You get what I mean?

I bought a scent-removing kit yesterday and something to make calls with. Are those worth buying at all? I'm not using a bow; I'm out walking. I live in Idaho Falls, and if you have any advice, that would be great. If this isn't allowed, I apologize. Thanks for all your videos. I appreciate it.

    Why would the local DNR prefer to have doe season late after regular Deer season, wouldn’t it make more sense to have it before the regular Deer season,before the superior bucks have had a chance to do their thing

    Good content. I hope my neighbors don't watch your channel! You're giving away all the secrets! Also refreshing to hear the truth about private land. Public land guys often diminish my success, like I'm hunting a game farm. The amount of time invested into food plots, becoming proficient with my equipment, knowing when and where to hunt...and I'd also include calling techniques contributes to success.

      You could really do some damage in the post rut over some corn(if legal) next to a known bedding area or in a tight funnel/long distance travel corridor. Also if you have any younger sapling thickets they’ll be hammering that woody browse when it’s towards late December and all the acorns have been gone for a week or so. Goodluck you gotta make the most of what yu got.

      It's easy to kill a buck on MI public land...very hard to kill a certain mature monster on Lakosky's land, unless you have a lot of experience already killing mature bucks somewhere. Anywhere.

      Jeff really knows his stuff. I'm about his age and already figured out much of what he has. He reaffirms most of what i preach.
      I use to have alot of time. Now I don't. So I load woods with cameras and get stands ready in August
      I have not hunted yet for as he says it won't happen until Halloween that I see it is time to strike. First sit is usually a kill
      In last 3 yrs though October 25th is a great evening by camera history
      I can't wait!!
      As for the hunting industry i enjoy watching but most are guided hunts with a guarantee.
      I admire jeff and lee lakosky
      Lakosky works hard almost year round for what he has. We'll deserved

    But u can hunt private and public. harder to hunt public hands down. can't bulldoze pinch points, bedding, food plots, cornfields, control human pressure...huge difference. I hunt private and public in the middle of Michigan. People everywhere

    • @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
      @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751  2 месяца назад

      Much, much less stress hunting public land in MI or PA where I do. No hard work. No difficult decisions. Very little strategic planning. And best of all if you mess up a spot you just move to plan B. I just talked to someone today, for example...that destroyed 4 parcels by adding food plots. Very few get it right...
      The money, time, level of strategy and amount of work spent on private land would be staggering to someone with little experience managing a high quality, successful private parcel.

    I hunt public and private both and I disagree 100% with your statements. If you are putting in the work to locate a mature deer on public you have to be just as careful as you do on private, it’s even tougher because there’s a lot more things out of your control. You act like you can just move spots but in many parts of the country there aren’t mature bucks around every corner on public land they are few and far between. It sounds like you don’t take hunting public land seriously which is fine but to say it’s easier is just wrong if we are talking about taking a mature buck. On my private I can predict right when the big ones will show up because I do what you are recommending here, but on public I don’t know if a bunch of rabbit hunters went through the bedding area while I wasn’t there. If it’s easy to kill mature deer on public land why should anyone bother to manage their private property? Why not sell it and shoot slammers on public?

      I think his channel specifically caters to private land folks. I completely agree with ya man. Public land is hard as shit to hunt. It might be relaxing in terms of not blowing out deer in ur property but it’s not even remotely easier to tag a deer on public. I’m hunting natural food sources out here, not food plots and water holes 👍🏾

      Don’t think he said “easier”. Just less stressful on public. The way he hunts public is like most, just get a shooter. No target buck. That’s what he meant

    Public land to relax? Funniest thing u ever heard. The most physically demanding hunts are public if you want to get away from hunters. Mentally? You still have to study, study, study. You can move all day and not help yourself.

    Unluckily....or luckily....I live 3.5 hours from my hunting spot where a 200"+ could walk by any time during the rut. We were going to make it down mid October but because of my dad passing, plans have changed and we won't be there until peak rut. I know that occurs from the 6-12th in my area, and nobody that I know of has been back in those woods since I shot my buck last year. I'm expecting nothing but action, if only the weather will cooperate!
