Great reaction, bro. I’m a 54-year old veteran of the United States Army. I have never been shy about showing my emotion - good, bad, happy, or sad. Our emotions are an indicator or our personality.
I never knew that and always thought I saw different victims in some versions. Now I know why. Fucking hard hitting song. Still can’t hear it without crying. Just saw them perform it live tonight. Amazing.
I grew up with alcoholic parents. When I first heard the song as an adult every word registered with me. I bought the CD the same day. At the time, I was leading and sponsoring an Ala-Teen group - a group for teenagers who were growing up with alcoholic parents. I brought the CD into our next meeting, and every one of the kids reacted to it. There were about a dozen kids in my group at that time, and everyone had heard that song and felt something from it. We actually spent the whole hour just discussing what that song meant to us. Even though it wasn't Soul Asylum's intention, that song really helped a lot of kids who were in pain. I've always been so grateful for that.
I like the fact that when a song moves you you’re not afraid to show your emotions. I played this song for my teenage daughter for the first time almost a year ago. She started crying just like you. She fell in love with the song even though it made her cry. She then found my Soul Asylum cd’s and their videos on RUclips and found a lot of other great songs of theirs. They are still playing but the lineup is a little different now. They are from my home state, Minnesota.
I love this song! I love the documentary that explains why they decided to share missing children from different areas on their videos. I grew up abused and thought of running away but knew the streets were no better than my home so I stuck it out. I was suicidal until 41 and then got help and began helping stop and prevent child abuse and human rights abuses. The vulnerable definitely need all our voices and help! Thanks SalvoG!
On the day i left home at age 19 after a big fight with my alcoholic father, i was sitting on a bus, not knowing where i was going to live, and this came over the radio. Prior to that day, i had not really listened to the lyrics but i now love the song.
Damn, this video hits harder as a parent than it did when it came out. It is also heartening to know that a brilliantly executed message video did real-world good. Most likely, the writer felt the song did what he needed it to do for him, and probably helped others with depression, and most likely wanted to help others that couldn't help themselves.
That whole Grave Dancers Union album is an underrated classic from the 90's. Somebody to Shove, Black Gold and Without A Trace are all great tracks. Definitely radio friendly songs but more importantly catchy.
Powerful video, and I'm glad the song was used to showcase that issue. I loved the song before I knew about the video, for its depiction of depression - that's a way more obvious fit for the lyrics. Always love your reactions Salvo - your emotional honesty is what makes them special.
The first time I saw the video for this it showed missing people from Australia and some of them were international packpackers travelling around Australia were found killed by a Australian serial killer after that the video clip was changed this song sure hit hard.
I liked watching your reaction to this song, I love that you didn't try to hide the fact that it made you tear up. To me, it shows that you have a good soul. This song hit me hard the 1st time I watched the video. Now it hits me soo much harder since I have 2 kids, that was always my biggest fear along with SA. I'm a victim of SA & I would NEVER wish that upon ANYONE even my worst enemy cuz it stays with you.
If I were a rich person, I'd get in contact with the band , ask if they can re do the same video with an updated list of missing children, it's a great song. Too bad MTV doesn't play videos anymore
The band is currently trying to get the news channels to play an updated video they have said so for months on their platform. Media is not allowing it
@@ShannonCollins-p4v actually no they weren't quit being such a jerk a lot of them were found in return to their families. Don't believe everything you find on Google. If you were alive during that time that song was being played you would know. I grew up while that song was being played on MTV. Get out of your parents basement and go do something with your life.
Great reaction. My favorite Soul Asylum song is "Cartoon" from their self-titled album. Really biting electric guitar and the melody wants you to keep turning up the volume.
This song have different meaning, but as result of the video It featured 36 real-life children who had gone missing, 21 of whom were found or returned home as a result of the video. Crazy right. btw I love your reactions.
Always a tough vid to get through. "Without A Trace" is an amazing song (not as dark as it may sound after this one). The whole "Grace Dancer's Union" album is fire.
I remember my older brother used to watch MTV all the time when I was a kid. I first heard this song and watched the video when I was five years old. Even then, it impacted me. The song has stuck with me all these years. Amazing, tragic art.
I always love your reactions because you're so real. I love this song, and I hate the subject. we have such a problem in this country with missing children, it's truly heartbreaking.
Something along this topic would be the Pat Benatar song “Hell is For Children”. Royalties from the song go to The Child Abuse Prevention Foundation in San Diego.
Soul Asylum is 🔥🔥🔥 - keep going through their catalogue. My favorites are “Never Really Been” and “Can’t Go Back,” both from their AMAZING “Made to Be Broken” album. (SO many great tracks on that album!!) While Pirner’s lyrics do tend toward the philosophical, no other tracks have the heaviness you experienced watching this video. I really think you’d love their music 👍❤️
The lead singer, Dave Pirner, appears as a guest vocalist on Within Temptation's "The Whole World is Watching" from the Hydra Album. It is a moving song and worth a listen, since you covered some of Within Temptation's songs on your channel earlier.
The album start to finish is a masterpiece! IMO several better songs on the album than this really good song. Their cover of Johnny Cash’s Cocaine Blues is f&cking awesome.
Hi SalvoG It's been 3 months since you posted this so I am not sure if you will see or read this. I am up in the middle of the night scrolling through music reactions of songs I like . I did not notice your post here earlier . I do spend time usually in the True Crime community in RUclips and other True Crime platforms and researching cold cases . Your reaction to Runaway Train clearly felt deep as I think out of all the reactions I have seen for Runaway Train you are the only one who did not stop the video in the middle to explain or talk.... that really said a lot to me about the kind of person you are . I could not not subscribe and give likes here . I haven't ever really given out favorite reactions before but this one struck a cord with me and I am glad you appreciate the message within Runaway Train. It is a tragic video but it is also the downside of many peoples everyday lives and those people matter as much as anyone else and deserve to be remembered not only for how they died but the good they spread to other peoples lives while they were here . Thank you for your channel and I will go and do a back search of your earlier videos
I just happened to be scrolling my comments, which I do every now and then. I read your comment. Thank you for the kind words. Thank you for taking the time to watch my video.
Thank you for being you... you definitely missed a great party in the 80's synth and house music... i giggle when you do your cute "oh my stank" face... if i may ask, what brand of headphones do you use?
I was moved by your reaction. While I have never experienced anything like a missing child, my family has. My brother's nephew (his wife's brother's son) was missing for a week and they found him deceased. They believe he drowned. My grandfather's 2nd cousin disappeared in 1924 at age 4 (it's a pretty famous case in Ohio) and nothing was ever discovered about Melvin. Obviously I never knew him, but I did speak with his grt-nephew a few times. The family believes he was kidnapped & raised elsewhere and forgot who he was.
Great reaction, bro. I’m a 54-year old veteran of the United States Army. I have never been shy about showing my emotion - good, bad, happy, or sad. Our emotions are an indicator or our personality.
Well said!
The missing persons depicted in the video were different depending on where you lived. Some were found, others not. This video still hits hard.
I never knew that and always thought I saw different victims in some versions. Now I know why. Fucking hard hitting song. Still can’t hear it without crying. Just saw them perform it live tonight. Amazing.
You really are a lovely bloke Salvo...............................

@lisaberry862 what a great story! Thanks for sharing ❤
Loved this song. It did help find several kids, and they covered it on daytime talk shows, and 20/20 type shows at the time.
There needs to be more support for abused and neglected teens or those with no family support. ❤

I love this song, it is so beautiful and emotionally moving. Grab your tissues.
Damn, this video hits harder as a parent than it did when it came out.

Most likely, the writer felt the song did what he needed it to do for him, and probably helped others with depression, and most likely wanted to help others that couldn't help themselves.
The views for this one should be higher. A very needed song for everyone to hear.

Beautiful and sad at the same time.
Love your heart, bro. Awesome reaction yet again.

Saw the video in Europe when it aired for the first time (1992/3). Still hits just as hard now in 2024.

@@okie_shay grrrr, it would be so great though :D
Google it. A lot of the kids were found dead unfortunately

I love that you first look up and learn about the song and artist before reacting, i haven't seen anyone else do that.
Your reaction matched mine, it hits so hard
I always love your reactions because you're so real. I love this song, and I hate the subject. we have such a problem in this country with missing children, it's truly heartbreaking.
I *was* expecting that, and yet....sobs.
yeah, big radio song in germany as well. i do still own the maxi-cd of this track! great song/video!
❤❤❤I have no words but this song twists my guts. No child should never feel the need to run away ❤
Something along this topic would be the Pat Benatar song “Hell is For Children”. Royalties from the song go to The Child Abuse Prevention Foundation in San Diego.
This video hits hard. 🥹
❤This was so good, helped a lot of kids. Good for them to do this! Wish folks could and would do more stuff like this too!
Love Dave Pirner's voice.
The video just moved me so much never forgot it
Love this song. Play it often in my guitar practice sessions. Thought it was Tom Petty early on.
Different areas of the US had different photos of missing kids. The same for other countries it played in.

This song used to be my karaoke go-to
Over half a million missing kids every year in the US alone; there's no way that's just random crime or runaways.
I can see you actually get it.

Great video to a great song, as it helped find some of the missing people [dead and alive].
They did a few lost peopleversions in different countries.
Try Name hits hard, I need a shove. First saw them at Summerfest in Wisconsin
The album start to finish is a masterpiece! IMO several better songs on the album than this really good song. Their cover of Johnny Cash’s Cocaine Blues is f&cking awesome.
I know I say this a lot, but this is one of my favorite songs

Ginger Sue Hudson was a victim of the Green River serial killer, sadly
Love this song! He used to date Wynona Ryder!

Dont let the video fool you... the song is about spiraling depression

Mtv cutting the ending of the video so it wouldn’t be confused with a PSA is such bs. Why in the hell would they do that? 😤
God music but sbeject is sad
