This song brings me to tears everytime. My best friend went missing when we were 8 years old. She walked home from school one day and vanished. I know she is an Angel watching over us now, i pray she has found peace wherever she is. Its been 27 years....... not a day goes by without her running through my mind one way or another, makes me smile when i see her adorable little face with her beautiful deep dimples and that cheeky smirk she always did. Life has never been the same since you went away. I am able to find some solace in knowing that this song is responsible for bringing countless missing children home. One day my dearest Kim, one sweet day we will bring you home......... one day.
I know a couple guys in the Special Forces, when they got home from Iraq they dedicated their lives to finding missing children. They’re truly the good guys🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 Much love and Respect🙏🏼
My cousin was a Ranger and does the same. I've worked with the same organization he does but in a different capacity. He's one of the door busters, I've done administration. It's a difficult job
This song was released in 1993, hence the 90's dates on the photos. It's pronounced Soul A-sigh-lum. Like a mental institution ,asylum. Somebody to Shove and Black Gold are a couple of their other songs.
This song has been updated around 2019 it’s called Runaway Train 25 and though I like the original it was done with new missing children and geotracking so that when the video loads it updates with your location and shows cases near you. Totally worth a listen if you are into pop and wanted and updated version of this song.
This is perhaps the most powerful music video in history. Sadly, some of the kids featured in this video were found dead and to this day, some are still missing.
Dude the look on your face and in your eyes when you saw that little girl standing on the corner getting in the car with that old 💩💩💩 you looked like you wanted to pull him out of the car and beat the crap out of the guy. Your reaction was the same as alot of people who first saw this video. You guys did a awesome job on this one
This song addresses various reasons kids go missing, from bad home situations they run away from, to abductions & such. We've not done enough, as a society, to support & help disenfranchised children, & it's coming home to us now. Consider the recent violence we've witnessed, often perpetrated by young people who fell through the cracks. At the end of the day, it's everyone's responsibility to act to help the kids, because it could be our own children next.
I seen them live. When they did this sone they had a giant screen behind them. Showing hundreds of missing kids pictures and info. This sone really raised the awareness of missing and runaway kids.
I used to remember that music video coming on MTV all the time back in the '90s that s*** hits hard now because I'm a grown adult. I'll be lying if I said I wasn't bawling my eyes out
What you said is so true! It’s not even safe for adults to go out alone! It’s sad really and with so much evil running around and the world it’s scary to go anywhere or do anything. But I’m not going to let evil keep me hunkered down either. But you know I have a cousin who was 52 when he went missing! It’s been 4 years and still not one lead to anything significant. He just literally vanished from his house and it will drive you crazy not knowing. Anyway great reaction. Much love to you both ✌️
When this video was released it featured real missing children but they varied depending on geographic region. If I remember correctly, this music video is credited for helping locate 50 or 60 missing kids. I'm sure you can find the actual number somewhere online.
Yes photos were updated once they were found. It also sadly solved a murder two of the children shown (I'm not sure what country) were killed and buried in a backyard.
This song has a special meaning to me because as a missing children advocate who have shared hundreds of missing children to social media especially to Facebook and Twitter, I also seen what a lot of these families have truly gone through, that's appreciate Soul asylum for what they are doing in helping these children find their way home and not just children but adults as well.
So sad 😢 about all the children 😭 who go missing in the world this song made me cry 😭 my prayers 🙏 out to all of the families who lost their children in Abduction and never have been found 😢 thank you Shawn and Mel for sharing this video 😢.
It did! 26 kids have been recovered because of this song! It was so successful that Soul Asylum gave their permission for a 25th anniversary cover, with photos of current missing kids. The best part is every country or region the song was played in had different missing kids, unique to that region.
Your reaction is so wonderful - it makes me have faith that so many of us are kind people that we can end this sort of thing. It just breaks my heart that there are people out there who are so evil ....
I'm semi retired and work as a porter at a family entertainment venue, can't count the times I've walked in to check a bathroom and small children are in there by themselves(as young as maybe five) these bathrooms aren't visible from the playing area, and I'm just disgusted that these children are walking around alone while their parents are drinking in many cases, and oblivious in ALL cases
This song was released in June 1993 as the fourth single from the band's 1992 album, , and became a success around the world. It reached number five on the US Hot 100 and climbed to the top position on the Canadian Top Singles chart, earning a gold sales certification from the Recording Industry Association of America and selling 600,000 copies in the US. There are 4 or 5 versions of the video. 26 cases have been solved so far. Many ended in tragedy. some where killed by a family member, or stepfather, some were victims of serial killers, and others remains were found. Some of these cases wasnt solved until 2020 and mid 2021. so sad.
Pat Benatar's "Somebody's Baby" video is along these lines. Worth a watch if you have time. That statistic of missing kids was from the late 80s. Can you imagine how bad it is now? Human trafficking is a real thing. More slaves in the world today than in anytime in human history.
I might be a bit too sensitive, but I've already seen a couple of reaction videos to this song and I cannot understand how you can watch these scenes and sway to the music, where I always have a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes bc I know these things are really happening, no matter how many times I watch this video. It had a profound impact on me when it came out in the 90s and still has.
600,000 people go missing annually and 4,400 unidentified bodies are found every year and we can make a difference if just continue to share their faces with everyone either that on social media or in person it doesn't matter how as long as they are found safe because in the end that's what most important.
Some info on the final child Thomas Gibson. In 1991 his father stated he left him under the care of his 4 year old sister playing in the front yard to go for a jog. Upon returning his sister said a couple pulled up and took Thomas. In 1993 she said the father beat him and took him with him. The father was arrested for his murder and served 1 year imprisonment. Thomas body was never found. The father was in law inforcement.
I believe this is true. This song actually had different versions featuring different missing children. More accurately, they edited in different missing children into the part of the video where they show the dates they have been missing since. Im not sure how many dif versions were released but I know it happened. I think they had some diff versions in Europe featuring kids missing over there. That is the 1 thing i have always heard about this song and video.
100% of the times I hear this song it has me in tears. Especially since I have known several people who disappeared over the years. Not necessarily by abductions but it’s hard to know. It’s relatively common for people to disappear here in Alaska.

Some of these kids, if not a lot of them, were in danger in their own homes, and we they run off to try to save themselves, people exploit and abuse them.
This is why when out and about I observe kids even with an adult, study their body language, watch how the adult handles them, etc. If I suspect something is not right, I will get close to the kid and ask, "Hey, young man, you cool, you good?" So far I have not detected anything way off or if the child gives me some kind of signal. It's a sick world out there now more than ever. We should all be vigilant especially when kids are walking home from the bus stop.
