Him saying the "I'm going home" line still fit. It deceives you to think he'll actually be home, then pulls the rug under you when he actually isn't. It makes the plot twist even less expected because the going home line is in such a dramatic moment where you have so much else to think about so you don't realize the foreshadowing

The 4k digital IS a theatrical cut. They put different versions of the film out for some reason, so some theaters got one joke while others got another, or one version might have a different quip from another. The version that's available on digital is the same version I saw in IMAX each of the five times I went. This isn't a different cut of the film, if anything, this is what the creatives intended to be the "canonical" version of the film

That's not hair on Earth-42 Miles' face, that's just an artistic choice to emphasize shading. They added it to his ears as well and that's obviously not hair in his ears (those same shading lines are added to his chin and neck). It's the same reason for the more pronounced outlines on his face: they have the same facial features (like 1610 Peter Parker and Peter B. Parker), it's just the treatment makes Prowler-Miles appear more harsh and SpiderMan-Miles softer.

I think Miles saying "I'm going home" is more triumphant and gives us a cheer inside of what he is going to do and what matters, about being back home with his family. It makes it even more of a twist when you think he has gone home at the end because he just stated his goal. It helps us to be pulled into the twist to think he got what he wanted because he is our hero. Would love to know why they changed that.

Loosing the inner monologue from Miles when he's invisibly stalking Gwen makes sense. Later on (in the tea scene) they basically establish Spider People as being able to hear each other's monologues. Notice Miles in that scene, he's aware he's in that scene! It's a fourth wall scene, and not real, hence why he doesn't stop pouring tea - but he actually looks around and is a little surprised by the scene change.

I saw this movie in theaters about 3-4 times, and a lot of the changes he's pointing out weren't "changes" to me. The dialogue changes (Spot being calm, Miguel saying "a world" instead of "another," and Miles not saying "I'm going home") were the only differences from what I saw in theaters. Anyone else in the same boat here?

The biggest change I noticed that no one else seems to have is during that last scene with both versions of Miles and it has to do with the timing for when the song Start a Band begins. In the theatrical version it doesn't begin until the final shot of that scene where Miles mouth is open and he looks terrified but in the digital version the song starts right as Prowler Miles says "Why would I do that?" and closes his fist. It's a very small change but one that immediately stood out to me.

The animators and producers came out and said that two versions of the movie went out to different theatres across the US. Nothing changes the story of the film. But small visual changes; because it's about a multiverse, so each movie is slightly different in it's own multiverse.

    • @Felpino
      @Felpino 10 месяцев назад +27

Only two versions were out in theaters and now this one. They aren’t different because of “the multiverse”. They are different because Phil Lord and Chris Miller couldn’t decide what they wanted to keep or not throughout production of the whole film, making animators work much longer than they would’ve needed if they were clearer beforehand.
The movie was perfect, and then they messed it up by changing details that while might seem inconsequential, but affect how we perceive and interpret media. These are just a few, I’m sure there is more.
The movie is still great, the animators, writers, actors, directors and yes, Phil and Chris did an amazing job, but this cut just worsens the movie as whole.

That’s not how the multiverse works. There was a multiverse, and Kang from the MCU rebooted everything, Loki and Sylvie killed him and let the Multiverse come back into being
There aren’t multiple versions of this movie happening, there is only 1 Miles Morales 1610, and there is only 1 spider society. Remember Doctor Strange 2? There are an infinite number of Wandas in the multiverse, but there is only ONE Scarlet Witch in the current multiverse. Multiversal figures like that Wanda and this Miles don’t have copies

Another small change I noticed upon rewatching, is that in the theatrical version, when Miles is swinging “home” towards the end of the movie, and everyone’s voices are playing over in his head, the “if you hadn’t been bit, your Peter Parker would’ve lived” line that was said by Miguel earlier on the train, is actually a different recording, which is said in a more sad/defeated tone, possibly to reflect Miles’ feelings of failure and betrayal. However in the digital version, the line is the exact same as it was in the train chase scene.

Both versions were in theaters at the same time. But I completely understand where you're coming from. Hopefully they'll do what another film that had multiple theatrical releases do.
The comedy/mystery movie Clue starring Tim Curry had three completely different endings, all of which had a different criminal who committed the movie's crime for different motivations. That was part of the movie's gimmick. But when it came time for the movie to be released for home releases, they always included all three versions on the home release.
What I'm getting at is, I'm hoping both versions of the movie make it to the Blu-Ray once September rolls around. I'd be really sad otherwise. I saw the "digital" one when I was at the theaters. I want to see the other one too.

Gonna be honest, I saw this film twice in theatres and I seem to remember a lot of these small detail in the theatrical version including the Gwen no talk scene. Would have liked it if you were able to watch both versions though.

I’m pretty sure if these changes weren’t pointed out, I wouldn’t have noticed them when I get round to rewatching it

I don't think these are changes per se, but more like they went with one of the theatrical versions (since there were two). I remember the bunny selfie in theaters, and don't remember Miles saying "I'm going home".
