- Solo level grinding is the best way to control stat growth. Here is the list of things you will need.
Espers:
Phantom (for Vanish)
Catoblepas (for Death)
Bahamut (+50% HP)
Spells:
Death
Osmosis (optional)
Drain (optional)
Relics:
Growth Egg
Gold Hairpin (nice to have)
Monsters:
Slagworm
Cactuar
Also, if you don't care about Esper stat bonuses and just want high levels, here's an exploit you can take advantage of.
For those who don't know, whenever a character joins or rejoins your party, their levels are adjusted to match the average level of the current party members. This means that, at specific points of the game where everyone but one or two characters leave, you can power level those remaining characters, which will cause everyone else to level up as well.
These are the best moments to exploit this mechanic:
1. At the beginning of the game, when Terra is your only character. The experience is very low even if you kill of Biggs and Wedge, but it's an opportunity nonetheless. Terra also has the advantage of free healing thanks to the Magitek Armor;
2. After the banquet in Vector, when Terra and Locke are your only party members. You're restricted to the southern continent, though, making the Sealed Gate Cave your only good grinding spot;
3. After you gain access to the Floating Continent. At this moment, focus all your grinding on Celes and ONLY Celes. When you start the World of Ruin, all characters' levels will be adjusted to match hers.
You forgot the Lette River. There is a grinding spot you can loop around in for hours. Yes, hours, but you have Banon on your team, which grants a free heal for the entire party each turn. Back in the day, having a turbo controller for this part was crucial. I would literally leave my super Nintendo on for hours. My party wouldn't be at 9999 hp, but they would be up to 2500 hp. The best part is, like you said, everyone who joins your party afterward will be scaled up to that level, making an already breezy game even more breezier.
Add in 4x EXP TO the Pixel remaster and it doesn't even take like 3 HOURS to hit like lv 50 to lv 60 VIA that infinite LOOP FROM LV 15.
@@shaunpiotrowski3185 Everyone except for Locke. I've done this and Locke still keeps is low level, but then after the Vector Banquet (or some other similar event) for some reason his level matches the rest of the team. Weird, right?
The area to the south of Dinosaur Forest is the best place to level grind... the enemies there don't use magic attacks (except for Tumbleweed's Lifeshaver counter, which won't be an issue if you one-shot it, and it's vulnerable to Death) and don't Snort you out of the battle, and half of the encounters there give more experience than the Slagworm's 7.524.
The numbers (without Growth Egg):
Tumbleweed x4: 10.216 EXP
Greater Mantis, Sprinter, Lycaon x2: 9.617 EXP
Sprinter x2, Lycaon x2: 7.298 EXP
Crawler x4: 5.824 EXP
Also, all characters need to gain only 4-5 levels with Bahamut equipped to ensure 9999 HP at level 99.
I believe the Dinosaur is more effective after getting the Ultima Weapon (use it on either Terra, Celes or Locke).
Killing tyrannosaurs in the dinosaur forest spamming meltdown while wearing a flame shield (or paladin shield in any other versions than Pixel Remaster) is much faster. The desert south of Miranda is better for learning magic.

@Arutima either way, they'll be dead in 2 casts, so you don't even really need to heal 🤷♂️
But the heals provide sustain while you are lower level

Wow! This is much faster then how I do my "pre-dinosaur forest" grinding. Normally Id vanish myself and fight the mobs outside Jidor. They give about 5000exp for a solo character. I really liked the way you explained this and im going to try this method on my next play of this. Good video man!

Question. Why waste perfectly great levels on HP when you could use then on Magic, Strength or Speed and just really destroy the game?
It depends on what kind of build your going for. I prefer to have a deep HP pool and then focus on specific stats afterward. Once you get Ultima and Phantom Rush every battle is cake anyways.
That and the Ultimate weapon Sword Celes Edgar Terra Locke will first ONLY do 4x 9999 hits with at least 8500 Max HP which you won't get on those 4 until around lv 85 anyways.
Summon Phantom Slagworms ONLY COUNTER Death/Banish for when it FAILS with Physical hits only make them harmless if it never uses Sandstorm thunder shields will make that do 0 damage but Sandstorm WILL remove vanish, if using Edgar the Air Anchor tools instant kill effect does work on it and since those will COUNTER it with a physical hit Vanish will still make them do no damage.
If trying to uncurse the cursed shield say at lv 30 by the time i had the Slagworms/Cactuars UNCURSE it I had lv 65 party members.
Gogo/Umaro can't use espers but should BOTH have 9999 HP each IF you have them join only at lv 99 but Umaro at lv 99 still sucks.
to SAVE on GIl Solo Gau VS Cactaurs battle use its OWN rage for 1000 needles to kill them Traveler/Step Mine via Rage/Lore NEVER misses either so Solo Gau could use it via Rage and for Gau using a Physical hits with the Masters scroll equipped he will hit those for 1 HP each for all 4 hits but those only have 3 HP.
@@veghesther3204 I use Umaro in the colleseum. His slam at LVL 61 does between 6-8K and his snow muffler absorbs most elemental damage.
Except that damage still sucks when he can't really ATTACK more then once and yes the Masters scroll will NOT allow him to use Slam 4x a turn so even at lv 99 he still sucks because of that.
@@veghesther3204 true, but most bosses only have 10-15K HP at best, so monkey-man gets it done for me.
The slagworm can cast sandstorm which is damaging and ruins your vanish.
You can fight around the rock area. They only attack physically so you can kill things with impunity there.
Except if you only use Death/Banish spells Slagworms will NEVER use Sandstorm at all or at least rarely use it and thunder shields will make it do 0 damage.
Meltdown can do 9999 per use but I only had that happen at lv 99 but still use Fire shields to absorb it.
@@veghesther3204 Sandstorm is cast at random. Can't do much against it. If you equip a Gaia Gear, I think it nullifies the SS, though. But it still has a strong regular physical attack.
Casting Vanish on your party and fighting in the rock area will generate random encounters who only do physical attacks and provide a shit ton of exp.
Sandstorm is wind based however on wait mode battle speed 6 it almost NEVER uses it when Death/Banish fails to connect beside the enemies that aren't Slagworms/Cactaurs are worth Crap FOR learning spells but not for exp.
Snort/Sneeze will remove Vanish as well but Slagworms even solo rarely use it.

Why boost hp, when you get to level 99 your hp is almost 9999. Youd be better off leveling vigor, speed or magic
To be fair at 99 everything dies just by looking at them

you don't. I think its only 2-3 levels at level 70 ish to get the 9999 for each character. Those are the only levels you want to equip bahamut
@@bryanwong1625Gamefaqs has a perfect leveling guide or two. To get max hp, you need bahamut on for lvls 69, 70, 71. It is a bit more complex to max mp, but basically around lvl 50, equip crusader.
Use air anchor with edgar. Thats it

Nothing in the game beats dragon forest. The EXP may not be the fastest , BUT ...... if you keep grinding there you will eventually get a stock pile of celetraids , making all spells cost 1 MP , meaning you can cast ultimate non stop , which pretty much breaks the game at that point. I always grind to lvl 99 there. Last time i got about 4 of them.
why do you even need economizers? They are useless. Osmose is so good in this game.
When it comes to the Miranda desert, the grand prize is the esper catrot. Celes is usually not in this operation because for her, I want to run up her speed. And others
This best way to gain XP is just to press A A A A A A A A... It's much faster to do only physical attacks and heal/revive when needed than to select spells/blitz/sketch...
and doing the banon healing thing at the river, leaving your console on for 3 or 4 days is too much?
I guess you can do the level grinding earlier, but this video is meant for that endgame grind to prepare for the final dungeon.

Ima sound dumb here I guess. Does it not split your EXP evenly amongst characters? What is the advantage to solo leveling?
The advantage is that you don’t need to jiggle around espers between your party while leveling. I personally like to level 2-3 party members at a time, while maxing stats.
@@CMVBrielman Thanks for the answer. I experienced the struggle first hand the other day when I had 3 strength characters in the party with only two strength boosting espers.
You picked a mediocre area for power leveling.
What would be a good team comp + espers for mid game? I'm at the point where Ifrit and Shiva are liberated
JRPGs boil down to "level up and win" so any team can work. Make sure to properly equip your team and learn key spells. Note that Locke can steal some really nice items from some of the bosses, but some of them are rare steals.
This game is fairly easy with enough leveling, so I always run Sabin, Edgar, Locke and Celes. Try have Celes learn all the spells.
The brothers do great single or AOE Damage with zero MP cost. Locke is always handy for stealing and Runic can come in handy.
Personally I never use Cyan or Gau.
Is this only on the PC version and the SNES or Gameboy Sp version?
It works in every version of the game.
Slagworm is vulnerable to Death in every version. In SNES, you can vanish him first for guaranteed Death to land, other versions just cast Death until it works. Albeit, the Cactuar is good for learning spells quickly, you don't necessarily need to do one character at a time, and there are better leveling options than HP+30% (Magic/Vigor +2 come to mind, since HP raises naturally on level but those stats do not, or even Bahamut has HP+50%).
You really don't need to do this, though. If you use each party member based on their talents, the game is fairly easy.
This Pixel remaster is garbage.
