I'm not denying the importance of the producer but don't shit on the artist's will to create, specifically, in the early 90's. It was much different.

@@DustSeeker163 bjork is no doubt a visionary but its a shame producers are so overlooked. a voice is but one instrument whilst the a producer is tasked with combining many elements to form the basis of the track and to be honest as someone who has been listening to her for a while now whilst assuming she ALSO produced all of her songs, I can't help but feel a little disappointed

@@adrianfundescu5407 In their day, Bach, Debussy, and Stravinsky were equivalent to today's Brittney Spears and Taylor Swift. Classical music was just pop back then. Bjork is definitely up there with the greats of this era along with Miles Davis, Prince, Bowie, etc.
@@SyncrisisVideos Absolutely wrong. Don't you dare to compare reputed COMPOSERS with contemporary pop artists. The level of complexity in their compositions, the hability to evoke feelings through melodies and harmonies without the assistance of any technology (comparing to autotune, quantization, and other digital softwares that makes music sound less natural) is way ahead of even todays musicians minds. And most importantly, most of them composed all their repertory alone, without the help of anyone. That's right. Bach, Debussy, Mozart, Tchaikovski and many others had extreme knowledge about every freaking instrument from the orchestra, and not forget to mention their fluency in advanced music theory.
Also, back in 18th century, only important and rich people could appreciate to a concert, so orchestra wasn't popular for the masses. Folk and Cabaret music was.
But still, Bjork is a great pop and experimental artists in this era. I love her voice.

i read in an interview of bjork that she received the sample of the song from a friend who brought it from Bollywood.
Actually the "Music for sho and harp (1986)" is composed by Cort Lippe, is dedicated to Noriko Kazama and performed by Mayumi Miyata on sho and Masumi Nagasawa on harp. Also, Lippe was my electronic composition advisor when I was studying in Japan.

Constructing the song from scratch was amazing, and hearing how close the final track was to the original even moreso.
But the most amazing part is realizing how Bjork's "little-extra-something" elevates it further than you could possibly reach even with all that work.
this has got to be the best Deconstruction ever on the channel!

@@santiagozaratea.9756 Mate, no disrespect to the singer (she has a really really nice tone), but that vocal is autotuned to oblivion. It's a production decision, nothing to do with the singer. She actually does some lovely glottal stops that sound natural...my guess is they tried to make them ALL absolutely perfect. Which is a huge mistake in my humble opinion.

Request! Can you do Bjork's "It's Not Up to You"? I think that song shows how much a master she was at melding intricate electric beats with really great orchestral arrangements.
That's one of my favourite Bjork songs. It's absolutely divine.
Her producers made those beats. And pretty much most of the rest. She worked (and works) with the hip beatmakers, producers, songwriters, musicians and sound-designers of that time. Nelle Hooper (Massive Attack/Soul II soul), Howie B, Tricky, 808 State, Bomb The Bass, Mark Bell (LFO) , Matthew Herbert (Herbert) The list is endless. Never asked yourself why some tracks sound like a a Massive Attack-song with Bjork-vocals on top?
@@dosanddonts2919 you're undervaluing the work she did herself when producing Vespertine. She had collaborators adding their touches to the album and assisting with orchestral arrangements (like many artists do). But she made much of the beats herself, sketched out much of the orchestration in this album. Even Matmos had to correct the record when many people assumed they did all of the production for Bjork.
Dosanddonts you keep posting this same comment multiple times on this video and it’s a bit concerning that you are taking this much time in your day to dismiss bjorks musical prowess. there’s a great interview from a few years ago where she addresses exactly what you are accusing her in terms to her beat making in vespertine. she created the bones and foundation of all those tracks and had collaborators add their touches later. people like you are reasons why female artists can’t be taken seriously or feel compelled to defend their abilities constantly. don’t get it twisted, all those intricate micro beats on vespertine were entirely composed by bjork.
F**k off, we can exactly hear those guys signatures all over those tracks. Why have the guys writing credits, if it was all the genius of Bjork? People who merely add their touches dont get writing-credit, it doesnt work that way. You dont know shit about those guys signature-sounds and you dont know anything about music in general .

That's a truly amazing deconstruction. The final result sounds extraordinarily good! The real strings and the magnificent singer add a lot to it.

I had not listened to it since...well a long time. At that time I had not started using DAW's yet. And now, listening to it again after having gained some knowledge about composition, It has blown my mind. What a piece of art! Each instrument, each note is so powerfully emotional, harmonies, timing and placement are perfect. And all in such original and creative manner.
Few modern compositions come close to it. There's a lot of very good compositions, But here it's a whole different level. It is as relevant and modern sounding as it was upon release.
And your rendering of it is spot on! Thank you so much and congratulations. Amazing job.

Very nice video and great performances! Glaiza's vocals are amazing. I got this album for christmas around the time it was released, but since I'm a heavy metal guy I only listened to it a couple of times. I remember thinking Björk was pretty cool, and that her voice was unique, but the music was just a bit too weird for me back then. I still have the cd in my collection and now, 25 years later, I believe I might be ready to give it another listen. :)
That was one of her most "pop" albums. . just got weirder after that until now. I loved all her 90's albums.

What an amazing performance by these students. I have a warm spot for anything Bjork does and this reproduction is spot on. Quite a task to pull off the vocals, but she does an amazing job. Definitely worth the watch.
