I remember in a documentary she said she is inspired by Iceland and actually tries to sound like Iceland in some of her songs.. she literally went out into caves and into the tundra and tried to replicate those sounds of the cold wind in Iceland.. I think she nailed this on “Immature”, her voice literally sounds like the howling of the wind, at times..
Björk doesn’t just sing her songs, she becomes one with the song and brings it life through her vocals, mannerisms and facial expressions. She’s so creative in her singing, truly one of a kind!
I've never seen a vocal coach approaching singing as something fun and experimental as this. It was really inspiring. I am glad we share the love for Björk, her Moon song is my favorite. Thank you!
OMG Justin, you have brought up all the underrated spectacular singers in this section of your videos! Bjork, Adam, David, Tory, Ella ... the list goes on! thanksss!
Bjork inspires me. She is unapologetically unique. So comfortable in her own skin and always pushes the boundaries of her vocal abilities and musical intelligence. Such a versatile artist, I love her so much ❤ Been such a huge fan since Debut came out❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
I have been a Björk fan since 2002 when I first saw her Riverside Church concert on PBS. I instantly started searching for more and more. I started buying every CD she made solo or in a band. I know have her on multiple platforms including DVD. Her voice is just amazing and unique. I love her so much.
Oh, I've been a fan since the late 80s when I first heard her as a singer in the band Sugercubes and the song Regina. I have not listened to her that much in recent years but this is a great reminder that O should. I love how you describe her as expressing the soul. That's what I've always thought, that she's an expressionist singer that conveys true emotions. There is somehing "trolskt" about her, a magical being imposible to define
She does this really strange and gorgeous sound sometimes with her voice sometimes that, to me, sounds kind of like when two marbles rub against each other? Like in one live version of “Hunter”, not the one used in this video, (found it! Its the “live in Paris 1998” one) when she says “HOWW Scandinavian of me”, the “How” is like that, lol, like marbles or something. I love it
This was such a great watch. ty for posting this. There are 2 artists who's voices blew my mind and shaped how i view music, talent and the beauty of Vocal flexibility and range. Mariah Carey for her ridiculous tone, breath control & of course Those Octaves . Bjork is the 2nd. She helped me realize that being unconventional and approaching music that way , is Not Only OK but encouraged and Moreso a Necessity for your individuality to Truly Shine thru.
She’s a really interesting artist. It would be really great if you guys actually analyze and teach the unusual techniques she uses. That’s kinda what I was expecting when I clicked on this video because you’re usually a vocal technique teaching channel 😆
Hi Tamlin! If there's anything specific that Bjork does that you'd like to understand better, write to us at Questions@VoiceLessonsToTheWorld.com with the question, a link to the video, and the timestamp! Thanks for watching! -NYVC
I've seen her thrice LIVE! Once in Europe & that 1 was the best but of course..But she did let Detroit have it with M.I.A, Pitchfork in Chicago got rained out! :( she is ethereal & amazing!
I could have had the chance to see her live in Berlin last year- but did not take the chance- and no, I am very angry of myself- best singing teacher to just listen to her

Thank you for sharing this! Really cool to see these analysis :) Have you guys ever analyzed any of Pentaonix stuff before? They're all so good! Mitch Grassi and Scott Hoying are legends! :D
I have heard a vocal coach telling "don't sing like her, risk of injury". I love Björk's songs, and I am glad she did the efort to sing them (they alter my mind) but I am not sure she is the best example for beginners. I mean, if they try to sing like Björk, but still warned not to force the voice too much, it is ok. I think I listen an interview where she explained something like this : "I was walking down the street and someone screamed from the sixth flor (of some medical centre) BJÖRK BJÖRK, come up. They were laryngologysts and asked if they could check my pipes with some probe. They found everything ok". This may give you an idea, those laryngologists probably were convinced that they would find a mess.
Yeah! Highly athletic singing requires technique in order to maintain longevity. There are ways to make the sounds we want to make without hurting our vocal folds. -NYVC
In this video we have seen a tiny little fragment of Wanderlust, her song from 2008. And I think it is live. When I listen to Wanderlust with headphones, I am in ecstasy.

Até dormindo o CRUZEIRÃO é campeão.🦊💙💙🦊💙💙🦊💙💙
I need an explanation at 14:15. how does she do that? what happens to the vocal chords doing it
Hi Darya! This sounds like repeated glottal in an M2 registration (Head Voice). Hope this helps! -NYVC
It sure sounds like it would be bad for your vocals. I think she is an incredible singer but when she did that I cringed. I would be afraid to try it.
Awesome thanks for sharing
So glad you enjoyed it, Cade! -NYVC
Sure did enjoyed it man thanks
Hello Justin Stoney! From the past episodes of Voice Lessons To The World you played the Roland RG-1F and the Roland GP607 or GP609?
Hi Jalen! Justin said that during the first era of VLTTW, before Ep. 101, he used a Roland RG-1F. :) Hope this helps! -NYVC
