35 years ago I spoke with an old white settler in the south west of WA. His memory of aboriginal burning when he was a child, was "a small billow of smoke moving gently around the country all summer" Never was it out of control.
Compare this to the wildfire that DEC put through the same country last year, threatening many homes and farms. Increasingly, larger areas are treated as single blocks and managed in the same way.
    Small mosaics are the answer.
Thanks Bill. your book is a great insight.
