    Fantastic job of transcribing a wonderful solo by Bill Evans. I heard him live several times at the Village Vanguard in NYC in 1960's. with Scott Lafaro & Paul Motian.

    Very cool! There's some places where I would retranscribe in a quarter triplet figure, he used it in probably 60% of this solo. I'm currently trying to arrange this on guitar to learn how to build elegant block chords on guitar

    It's very very odd to me that the intro to Green Dolphin Street on Kind of Blue, which is objectively the most famous version of the song, has no transcribed intro anywhere on youtube or the internet. No covers of Evans intro, no sheet for it, etc. The intro to this song is just absolutely god tier (on the Kind of Blue album).

      Block chords are basically inversions and are usually done with one note in the LH and the chord on the RH. You can also double the chords in both hands then move the inversions up and down without moving your hands rather than frantically moving more than necessary. There's a bit of room for invention so you just have to find the feel of it so you can freely move around with it and get the sound in your ears.

    Amazing work of transcription, but Fats Waller and the entire stride and cocktail piano, the entire "old-fashioned" league for playing real, hum along MELODIES do more for me than this B bop stuff. Am I deaf or what, where's the melody here?

    • @VVei55
      @VVei55 4 года назад +2

      there is an actual head/melody to this tune (linking to the full arrangement this solo was taken from below). green dolphin is really nice give it a listen you might find yourself humming along after all, but yea this transcription is literally only focused on the solo section so no melodies in sight (though he does quote/reference it several times throughout).

    This must be great to the rest of you , but it doesn't sound anything Green Dolphin Street to me. I must have very small ears. I have listened to Oscar Peterson's version and at least you here the melody line occasionally. Transcription is terrific.
