How to fix a Bosch washing machine that isn't taking fabric softener

  • I'll show you how to easily fix a Bosch washing machine that isn't taking fabric softener correctly without having to call an expensive engineer. Its perfectly simple and just requires a floss stick. You can always use an alternative such as a cocktail stick.
    I hope it helps.
    Constructive comments are welcome, thanks

Such amazing German engineering, they add a free fungus farm to every washing machine they manufacture: the little bit of water and fabric softener thats left in the dispenser after every wash creates a humid atmosphere, a bit of mildew grows, and the cycle repeats after every wash. For the first 18 months you'll never know its there, and then, all of a sudden, your clothes will start to smell like you live in a dungheap and you'll have to research RUclips to find out why. Tks for your vid, very helpful.

that's a good point, if I do a hand-wash or wool wash the clothes start to smell within a few hours if I can't get them dry immediately

Worked like a dream!! I was clearing out the tray and the bottom bit, didn’t even think that the top bit was causing the problem! Many thanks 😊

Have had this problem for years, each time resolved by a visit from an expert and a replacement part. Cost £80 a time. Tried your method. Brilliant. Have now saved engineers costs and also the immediate cost of a new washing machine. Thanks

You are a lifesaver! Thank you. Those 4 little holes have more black gunk than you think! The interdental brushes were a great tool to use! Don't be afraid to wriggle right up inside the holes 3 or 4 times each! Softener now being added and a clean drawer left! Just marvellous. Thank you.

Spot on - thanks for taking the time to film and upload. Was tearing my hair out trying to figure out why I was getting water on the floor under the machine. Turns out the draw unit was clogged - the inflow hole to the drum was half blocked with washing powder gunge and water was escaping from the draw, flowing down behind the front panel.

Fantastic advice! I have been trying everything to get the jets clean. No one had a clue what I was on about. You are the first person I've found that actually tackles the jets not the draw. I never would of thought to use a interdental brush. I've tried everything else but. Thank you

Clear instructions, thank you! I have had this problem for years! I found that even when using pipe cleaners the inlet pipe was still blocked as it is difficult to get around the 90 degree bend. Used a Dremel to grind away the cross and allow the pipe to be cleaned properly and flow directly into the tray. It now works!
I don't understand why manufacturers use sharp edges as these are known to gather material: poor design workmanship! When was the last time you saw a square water pipe? Also, when it is to be expected, why use pipes and holes of such a small size that will certainly and easily become blocked: again poor design workmanship. As this is not the only Bosch product I own with obvious design flaws I now avoid Bosch when replacing.

many thanks for the video on our machine the problem was that after the wash cycle the softener draw was left full of clean water, i carried out your instructions and gave the whole draw a complete cleaning throughout with hot soapy water using a tooth brush and clean sponge pads the ones that are green and white, one side is rough like a very soft Brillo pad and after the cleaning gave it a run without any washing in on rinse and spin and it cured the problem thanks once again RUSSELL PINXTON DERBYSHIRE

Great video, had this problem, tried boiling water, fully cleaning out the drawer itself, nothing was working... after watching your video I turned my attention to the jets, fully blocked up with gunk! Didn't think about where the water comes out (honestly didn't have much of an idea of how it worked at all) It was my own fault for trying to clean it before it was blocked, just ran a cloth along the top of the drawer bit, must have been what blocked up the jets... I had to come to work before I tested it but thought I'd leave a comment anyway I'm that confident that was the issue.

Thanks TLC, thats really handy to know and a lot less hassle than messing around with dental implements. A big problem is that most people who use a washing machine would rightly assume that the detergent and fabric softener they use dont bung their machines up with mould and scum. If they knew then im sure they'd clean regularly and avoid the problem.
