Washing machine fabric softener dispenser not emptying? Easy fix

  • Is the fabric softener not emptying from the detergent drawer of your washing machine? This video shows you an easy way to clean a detergent drawer and the water inlet jets above it. If fabric conditioner does not drain into the washing machine then you should try cleaning the water jets as they can become blocked by black mold. An AEG washing machine is cleaned in this video but the procedure is similar for other washing machines. A Zanussi washing machine or an Electrolux washing machine will be very similar as the AEG, Zanussi and Electrolux brands are all owned by Electrolux.

      @@bigtedshome instead of chlorine bleach I would recommend using NaDCC or chlorine tablets. They don't contain the harsh caustic soda used as a stabiliser in chlorine bleach and are just as effective. I've even used them to bleach clothes as it's gentler. this is very helpful thank you! for me the fabric softener does drain (i think) but at the end its filled with water. what could be the cause of this? not enough water pressure to allow it to flow out? as i tested it in the sink with the tap and if i dont fill it enough it doesnt drain, but if i fill it fully and quickly it does.

    • @bigtedshome
      @bigtedshome  19 дней назад

      It's probably just water that's splashed over during the rinse cycle. It won't drain unless the water level gets higher than the max level marker. At this point, the Pythagorean syphon will start and empty the compartment.

      @bigtedshome  Год назад

      Try filling the softener compartment with water to above the maximum level marker. This should start the syphon and the compartment should drain. If this works ok, it indicates that problem is with the water supply to the detergent drawer (probably the inlet valve).

    • @bigtedshome

      I wouldn't worry about it Sophia. It's probably just overspill from the rinse cycle.If you want to get rid of it before adding softener for the next cycle, add more water until it is above the maximum level and this should start the syphon and drain the compartment.

    Our fabric softener compartment is full at end of cycle. Like it is filling with water but not draining.
    Is it simply a case of cleaning tray and all water jets should solve this??

    • @bigtedshome
      @bigtedshome  3 дня назад

      @METHVS02 It's probably water that has splashed over from other compartments. If you want to clear it before adding softener for the next cycle, try topping it up with water until the level is above the maximum mark. This should start the syphon and drain the compartment.

    I need some advice, so we bought an aeg 6000 series lavamat washing machine about 2 years ago now and the the fabric softener never drained even once to my knowledge. I checked for mold or anything that could block the water and not use the fabric softener in the end. But there was nothing, still I tried to clean it somewhat still no results. The area where the fabric softener should go don into looks as if I had got the machine yesterday. If you have some advice I would be grateful to you.

      Try filling the softener compartment with water to above the maximum level. This should start the syphon and the compartment should drain. If this happens you will know that the problem is with the water supply to the detergent drawer.

      Try filling the softener compartment with water to above the maximum mark. This should start the syphon and drain the compartment. If this works you know that there is no blockage between the drawer and drum and that the problem is with the water supply to the drawer (possibly the inlet valve).

    There's is another issue which is a major issue in third world countries when utilizing the newer front load machines in general. And that's the water presure in combination withe the amount of flow from the lack of presure. When one is dependent of the water from a tank on the roof as most third world countries homes are. Gravity pressure and the distants the water has to travel isn't sufficent for the new machines various sensor's.
    Having a brand new front loader for the first time, vs an old top load. I had this problem from day one. Installed a booster pump not a normal pump. In which the difference is; It only takes a half horse power booster pump which simply pushes available water from the pipe in which it get supplied. A normal pump which in addition to pushing, needs to be bigger than a half horse power because it sucks the water prior to pushing it.
    Make sure to install it as close as possible to the machne, and not available to getting wet from the weather. After installing, make sure to bleed the air out as the instructions state. And then set it to automatic. My machine is some 50 meter's from the tank on my roof which cuts the gravity flow and presure dramatically. I installed the pump some 10 or 12 meter's from my machne, and the issue is no longer an issue.
    One more thing is. Any and all of the various soaps and conditionare, are condensed and will be to thick, always either cut there usage by making the solutions 50/50 product and water or simpy utilize what I learned as a child and utilize distilled white vinigar. Cleans your clothes, cleans your machine, eliminates the build up of mold, doesn't need to be mixed with water. A quarter cup for an average size load as detergent works great. Half that amount in the softner works great.
    a half horse power booster only pushes available water. A normal one has to be bigger because it also sucks water and then pushes it.

      I would be tempted to try pushing something long and fairly flexible (a length of 3 core cable?) into the pipe to see if it is blocked. It will be coated in gunk when you pull it out if it is blocked. You shouldn't touch anything that's live but just to be certain, make sure the machine is unplugged first. Good luck 🙂

      @@bigtedshome thanks, yes, I tried a straw firstly (unplugged at wall first) and thick black gunk came out but I don't know if that's a pipe running and if so for how long or is it just a hole that's blocked if that makes sense? • @bigtedshome
      @bigtedshome  2 года назад

      @@beverleypryor371 The pipe should go from the drawer down into the drum. Don't think you could really damage much if you did push the gunk down. Just disturbing it might be enough to dislodge it and allow you to wash it away with hot water. To access the pipe to strip it down, you will probably need to take the side panel off of the machine.

      Try checking if the syphon is working. Fill the softener compartment above the maximum marker. This should start the syphon and the liquid should drain out. If this works it would indicate that water isn't being pumped into the drawer. If it doesn't, then you probably have a blockage either in the syphon tube or between the drawer and the drum.

      Sorry to hear that Amber, it works for most people. You obviously have a blockage somewhere. You could try adding more conditioner (or just water) until the level is above the maximum level indicator. This should create a Pythagorean syphon which should drain the softener compartment. If this works, water is not getting through the jets above the drawer suggesting that they are still blocked or there is something that is preventing the water reaching them.
