Am quite surprised that roti jala is becoming an obscure local dish. Really goes to show we need more local content promoting local food and culture, rather than focusing on the foreign food fads..
oooh roti jala is definitely harder to find at hawker centres, most would make it at home! used to love using different food colouring to make it look fun and get to eat the crispy parts when i make it hahaha it's not as famous for non-muslims in singapore, but definitely should be since it's like eating a savoury version of crepe/thin pancake imo
Roti Jala is labour intensive imo. You have to do one by one and if it's made to order, so you will be doing it continuously throughout the day. Roti Jala can't be too thin or too thick, only experience hands can get it right. Too thin you'll feel like you're eating nothing, too thick it will be too doughy tasting. It's taste is savory if done right it's not as bland or plain as you would describe in this video. The curry that comes with it if solid will intensify the taste of the roti.
Thank you for sharing these iconic dishes...looked really appetising and very gracious of you & team for not kowtow to the pressure of currency conversion to the US$, which are very annoying and rampant in other productions. Must always remain proud of the local currency. Congratulation....Perth, W.A.
Actually there is another way of cooking the glutinous rice which is stir fry from raw over stove. I've tried it following a recipe/method and the texture is great. You can find the "kap zhong" - ham chim peng with glutinous rice in Bendemeer and Bedok hawkers LOL!
Roti jala is actually pretty yummy, but it can be jelak if eat too many pieces. in Malaysia, people use different food coloring to make it. Rainbow roti jala hahah
Most probably I will prefer the 3rd dish, the first two is damn too sweet for my liking. Actually I tried something something very similar like burut bun in Arab street.
Which breakfast item would you want to try!
For such series, you guys should collaborate with Greg's Big Eats, he knows his stuff very well.

It seems like the younger generation are eating healthier. I mean it in a very good way.
I miss the old glutinous rice so much
the pulut bun seems like malaysia have it too!
Yes, it’s more common in Malaysia than Singapore!!
All the dishes looks really tasty!
I have never heard about these foods before so I am really tempted to try each dish out!

Isn’t Roti Jala called Roti Kirai?
I googled, it has 3 diff names apparently. My family calls it roti kirai tho
We need more videos with Mandon! 🔥
had roti jala at pri sch. forgot that its called this
I like this series..Many of them are very new to me.
P.S. The subtitles at 5:09 is wrong, its Lakshmi or Laksmi, definitely not Lochmi
In Hindi Jala is changed to Jal which is netted.
So this could be from the immigrants too
TIL: "Endangered" dishes in Singapore are usual fare in Malaysia 😬
Mandon likes Tendon
are you telling me that i was 10 mins away from meeting tsl JDVSUSBYD
Chee Cheong Fan with siew mai
Love the format but a little dissapointed with the level of English from the host. Proud of all the well spoken hawkers, showing us how its done.
haha okay
Totally agree.
they should replace the host
Guy at 17:32 so handsome... someone please drop his @
He took 7yrs to tweak his glutinous rice recipe? No wonder he cant find a job as an engineer.
haha okay
