Under-appreciated is the word I'd use. @@davedawave4705 Downbeat magazine had a section called "artist deserving wider recognition". Little Feat fits that like a glove.
This band with leader, Lowell George, was fusion tight and got it right by playing it loose and blended rock, country, jazz, soul, blues and gospel, all electric. I found out about their sound from college buddy in 1972. I saw this Feat line-up Live in mid 1970s. So this lineup is: Lead vocals/guitar Lowell George; drums Richard Hayward, bass guitarist Ken Gradney, guitarist-vocalist Paul Barrere, keyboard Bill Payne and conga player Sam Clayton. Great stuff, wish there was more, thanks!
+Mistertbones my old man used to allways rave about little feat and i just used to laugh but after whiskey + little feat playlist on youtube has made me a believer
I still have a 45 record with Fat man in the bathtub on one side and Dixie Chicken on the other side. And I still have a Little Feat 8 track tape that I wore out when I was a kid. But surprisingly, the record AND the 8 track tape STILL play. Yeah I know I'm still living in the 70's. 😂
Did you know Eric Clapton said he wanted his band to hear Feat to hear what a band should sound like? Dylan, Stones, Led Zep and others called them a "bands' band." UNDERRATED!!!!
don't matter what he's playing, Billy Payne is the greatest. I love how everyone just looks over and watches him when he solos. Plus he's the sweetest guy ever.
they were an AMAZING band live. I was lucky enough to see Little Feat 3 times, front row. A great show each time. Lowell George, I love you and miss you
Holy Krap..anybody hear the announcer saying they played this at 9.30 AM???!This is beyond doubt, one of the greatest bands ever to set foot on a stage-a truly unique take on pop music, mixed in w/ Some 'Nawlins 2nd-line Riddims. Lowell George was certainly key to their sound, likely the heart of the band-possibly the most soulful White Soul singer ever, plus a FABulous songwriter & slide Guitarist-seems like the Feat were never the same after he passed.Still miss ya,Lowell.

Saw Little Feat at Auckland Town Hall, New Zealand in the 70's. About the best show I've ever seen. Still one of my favourites. Not sure if it's true or not but someone once told me that Mick Jagger once described Little Feat as the "greatest little rock and roll band in the world.".
I saw them in 1975, general admission @ Wesleyan. I stood against the stage, could almost grab Lowell's leg from where I was. One of the best shows that I ever saw. And I saw some great shows, including seeing Genesis do The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (on Broadway in NYC!), and many Grateful Dead shows including the New Haven May 1977 show. Little Feat was a fantastic band, so sorry that Lowell died so young. Hearing that he died was like when I heard Belushi died or John Lennon died. A gut punch. For my high school yearbook picture I used the caption: "You bring the guitar, I'll bring the wine, We'll blow out our speakers just one more time."
Every now and then someone comes along that is just a little better than everyone else. There were lots of good groups out of this time period. But only one Feat. Know one else played this style of music, this good, this available.
What can I say? Best version I´ve heard! Heard everything and been to several concerts with them for 30 years. Unfortunately im still to young to have heard ´´em live with Lowell! Have never been and will never be anything like them. A band full of talent growing together in total symbiosis. Love! Bands like this are just a few in music history!
one of my fav all time bands ..and some of the nicest musicians on the planet ..had the opportunity to wrap with paul and richie....what an honor that was....
Thank you for setting the record straight. Toussaint and the Meters were a big part of the success of that LP. The Slppin Sally parts of the LP would be played during Little Feat LPs at parties that I attended in Louisiana.
It's good to see Lowell in his prime and the band at it's peak. It got a lot worse for them as it progressed - the ravages of time and fortune - but this stuff is golden! Hell, almost everything they did was tighter than a fly's butt musically and off the charts technically - literally, off the charts, no bank. Sad story, but a great teaching tool.
Moi, je l'adore!!! I love it!!! J'adore ces beaux souvenirs de ma jeunesse pendant les années 70. I love these wonderful memory's of my youth during the seventies.
9:30 am and they still look as high as they could be! I love this band soo much!! My folks played them all the time when I was growing up and they were one of the bands I never grew out of, or not liked throughout all of my phases of music listening in my short 30 years here.
OH MY GOSH. I cannot deal. This is phenomenal. Lowell you bring on the effing heat. SO talented. I saw him and his band, they opened for Bonnie Raitt 1976, East Lansing MI. God. I loved this band.
Ah, the memories...Whispering Bob, one of the classic OGWT shows. I was lucky enough to have been a very early Feat freak and to have been present at the legendary Rainbow concert in '75 when they opened for the Doobie Bros. and completely blew them away. For me, at the time and for some years thereafter, the greatest band in the world!
Thank u so much. Saw the Feat at Parkhead (Glasgow) in 76 then at newcastle in 77. Lowell was a huge talent and seen here at his best. Taught so many other how to sing!!!
I saw this on old grey whistle test jan 75, /and saw them in 70s/ one of my all time fave bands ./lovethis song, band/Lowell George ;soulfull vocals, master slideman, /wonderful memories
loved little feat since hearing 1st lp in 71; saw this at time ; and saw them with Lowell whenever they were in uk in 70s; played all genres; Lowell ; genius slide and vocalist [and much missed]
I was at one of the concerts during hat package tour! Seventeen years old, it was a massive and impressive experience. Got me hooked on their music for good, as well as the music from the other bands in that tour. Doobie Bros, Bonaroo, Montrose, Graham Central Station, Tower Of Power... Still listen to all of them on occasion.
Actually it was only Lowell George, not the whole band. The album was recorded at Sea Saint Studio in New Orleans with backing of The Meters. Lowell and Alan Toussaint contributed songs as well. Great album!
These guys are still playing good shows. Never could replace Lowell, of course, but they still rock. Got to give it up to these bands who are around after decades, back on the road and kickin it.
Lowell George - his genius echoes over the years. I saw Little Feat 3 times at the Orpheum in Boston, front row each time courtesy of Debbie Chase, my dear friend who worked for Don Law. I cried when Lowell George died... such a loss, such a great talent... I still miss him. Mark Diaz
Is that an 18mm half-inch drive socket he's using for a slide? Whatever it was, Lowell George could play slide guitar and then some. In my opinion, the song that preceded this one on OGWT (Rock n Roll Doctor) is one of the all time great live performances. If only there'd been a live audience too. Ah where has the time gone...
Lowell George used a Sears & Roebuck Craftsman 11/16ths socket wrench as his slide. Lowell said that to get a certain bottleneck slide guitar sound needed the neck from the right glass bottle - which is difficult to find, and may get broken. So he used the socket ( right material and weight for him) because they were available almost anywhere in the U.S. Nerd Note: apparently Lowell had to wrap Gaffer tape (sticky side "out") on the inside of the socket to make it fit his little/pinky finger just right!
Lowell George was so cool!!! What a great, funky band! Of course, remember this was the age of Doctor John, Wilson Pickett, Bonny and Delaney and so many more...
Yes!! Little Feat were a very unique band back in their day had a funky sound all their own.. I bought three or four of their albums they never got real big but had a strong loyal base of fans.. Robert Palmer made a few early albums with a few of Little Feats band he was real funky early on too
Sneakin' Sally Through The Alley is an excellent album and is nothing like the slick FM college rock which Palmer had his major hits with later on...All FEAT fans are already probably aware of it and Pressure Drop, probably Palmer's best albums.

Saw them in London way back mid 70's, the curent line up is just as good.
me too .... on acid
Just saw them today, 17 Aug 2024. Bill Payne has the chops, and Sam and Kenny have the pocket. The band is still REAL good.

Please make a movie about him. Jack Black would be the perfect fit. Too charismatic and important not to be paid tribute through film.
Excellent comment. I would wait in the rain to see that film done well....ring Russell Crowe & Johnny Depp....
