Today I share my experience doing a no-buy January! I'll tell you my rules, the benefits of this approach, as well as some of the challenges. I'll check in a few times during the month, and reflect on the experience at the end. I think doing a no-buy is a great way of moving toward minimalism beyond just decluttering. Let me know what strategies you've used to reduce spending!

    I am trying to do a no-buy 2021.....
January I spent $12.80 on takeout while traveling.
February I spent $54 (lost significant weight and thrifted some replacement clothing).
So, while I did spend, it is a great improvement!!

Waiting time is a sure way to Win! Sleeping on it, putting it in my Amazon Shopping Cart, etc. I really like the idea of waiting until the 1st of a new month (or the end) to make a purchase. I also have a Shopping List/Desires in the Notes on my phone that I look at when I want/need to spend. It could be a lavender blouse. Instead of immediately going to shop for it, if I'm out or just happen to spot a Red Blouse I can say but what you have on your list is a lavender blouse so clearly the red can wait. It also allows time for the best deal AND choosing one I Love & not just like & bought. Amen, To Wait Time!

I'm practicing minilmaism, and I love photography .I have tried not to buy anything including clothing last year .I slipped amd fell and bought three summer shirtslast year and one tee shirt on Jan 31 of this year ..But I do not bring any decor in our home , I save more money .It's such a freeing feeling. I can agree with everything you're saying .

You’re definitely not being dramatic about your mindset shift with a no-buy! You’re verbalizing exactly how I felt when I did this in November, December, and January (except for already budgeted $ for birthdays and Xmas). It’s a lifestyle change, I firmly believe. 👏🏻😎

Hi 😊 I only came across your channel today, and I've already learned so much, thank you. Your way of looking at things are inspiring, and on this video particularly, I'm definitely going to keep a list of possible required items, and only buy them on the 1st of the month if I feel I still want or need them when that comes around. I look forward to watching your other posted and future content x

Thank you for another inspiring video. What a great idea. I was just on the verge of buying something and after watching your video decided to make this April my no-buy month. I’m excited! What helped me too was your other video about finding a flaw with something you are thinking of buying and talking yourself out of it. I just did that, and it worked!👍

Great advice! Throughout the week I write down anything the family needs/ wants. Then we only shop for things on are list and we don't spend too much time looking for what we might need because we already know what we need.

Lol what your Mom did reminds me of what mine does. If I mention that I’m looking for a lamp, bedside table, coffee maker, WHATEVER the item, my Mom will take it upon herself to “keep any eye out” for those particular items to be “helpful”. Did you mention something to your Mom about a winter coat? 🤷‍♀️🤣♥️

It is January 2022 and yesterday I decided it is a no-buy January! And hopefully year. I am planning to spend on food, gas and house/car upkeep. No impulse shopping, no cutesy things, decor, make up or clothing (oh and no shoes...) Thank you for the video! I will trick myself into delaying purchases... wish me luck 🙂

I am a new subscriber and I have to say I am really enjoying your channel. Also regarding Drano...you can try pouring baking soda down your drain, followed by vinegar. I usually then pour hot water down the drain in the morning and the clog is gone:) Just figured I would share what works for me, since you are graciously sharing your experiences with us. Take care🙏

@@ElinLesser I heard Drano is bad for the plumbing :P so I would have given you mine 😂 maybe you would’ve had a similar neighbor as well! I think I will leave it out for someone to take and declutter it!

You deserve so many more views.... But then again, we shall be content with what we have 😅 Absolutely love your content it's motivational and inspirational. So thank you for sharing with us. I'm making a lot of changes in my life right now, with quite some ease but my weak point is my clothes collection. I have to leave that for last because it's just so hard to even consider letting it go. :S Good luck everybody!

I really appreciate the self-reflection you conduct. I think I tend to just roll with the punches in a sort of mindless way. How empowering it would be to step back and learn about myself and my habits. Can you do a no buy when there is Mother's Day and an adult child's birthday?? I might attempt in May. Heck, I will start tomorrow with a no buy week. (See, I am going off without really thinking again. Sheesh!)

My husband and I did a no buy in January also. I made a list during the month of a toy for our grandson, a bible study book I wanted, and an order of a conditioner bar I really wanted. I did have the feeling during the month wanting to order tea on Amazon. Little things that I made it without. I think we will do a couple more this year.

Where can I get help for a shopping addiction?
    What’s the root you ask?
I’m trying to buy the persona of a successful person (I also love fashion and beauty), because I’m terrified of being a homeless raving lunatic (if I ever lose my mind or get into hard drugs), so it’s like if I buy this item I’ll have this feeling and that’ll help me have this life.
And it’s a fear of my own capabilities it’s a way of self harming my place in the world professionally or what titles I could have from education since I’m deeply insecure about my intelligence, I have internalized judgement from one side of my family that are extremely ambitious and successful (New York ballet theatre, Facebook nurse on site, multiple degrees, estate in London) and the other side is like half brain dead minorities that stay in toxic codependency or man beating relationships and have stories of escaping TO Compton from their parents houses.
So I’ve always been super terrified of myself and my title or education or place whatever so I handle that anxiety by purchasing stuff that makes me appear like the confident educated and well compensated woman that’s as good as you.
    It sucks

Funny because I did my first ever “No buy” month this last January as well. I was just inspired with the freshness of the new year & continuing on the minimalism journey. It was wonderful! I found alternative ways to fill needs & it made me realize as well how much I actually have & need to use up before getting another similar new thing. I wasn’t as strict, it was more like 90% no to most things but it was still life changing!

    "No buy month"
The accurate title of this video should be:
    No joy month
