This anime is amazing. It's the story of two high school boys who connect with each other via music and I have to stop there or I'm just gonna word vomit the entire show. You should absolutely watch this even if its just off camera for your own enjoyment.
This is such a good show and def worth a watch! I'd say the main plot points revolve around the younger orange/brown hair kid that sits on the stairs at the end of the opening (and it's also his VA that sings the ending) and yes they're in a band and the show does a good job at fleshing out all of them and giving them some spotlight and growth. It's very much an emotional journey dealing with overcoming trauma and making new bonds. A lil warning that there is also a very popular insert song "Fuyu no Hanashi/A Winter Story" (or also called Mafuyu's song) that they "perform live" in the first season of the anime. So if you ever get around to reacting to that before watching the show, then make sure you get some other full lenght option as 1. the actual clips from the show both has inner monolouge and footage with plot spoilers meshed into it. 2. it's not the full song.
-The lyrics are soo important and 💔...like I literally crying listening & reading them 😭. & all the music is incredible imo. -I love it because of the emotions you feel, the songs, the story, the hardships, grief, & healing, forgiveness, love, friendship, self-discovery, all the music, wonderful characters, & just soo many little things -I rewatch this at least once a year -This came out in 2019, movie in 2020, & another movie comes out in 4 days.
"Boys Love" is a difficult to get right genre of anime, many fall into boring or exagerated stereotypes, toxic masculinity/relationships fetichized, lack of a strong plot and other bad stuff. But Given, oh Given is a jewel. It's beautiful, genuine, natural, deep, relatable, emotional and so much more. Truly a great story filled with great music!
The themes and Symbolism that Kizu uses in their writing of Given takes it to a different level in the genre. Plus the realistic feel to both the friendships and the romantic relationships portrayed in the series.
I'm a dude and watched given coincidentally without realising it was kinda BL, I would have never watched it if i knew but I was already enjoying the show too much before i realised it was gay.
Love, love this anime! It is based on manga, btw, whose author is quite good at grasping and portraying people's thoughts and feelings. And yeah, the synopsis without spoilers - a show about a musical band) 2 high schoolers, 2 uni students. And also, the OP song - the music is catchy and drive-y, but the lyrics are sad, to say the least. I was halfway in the show and decided to check the translation, and then I was like "Oh. Oh... Thanks for the tears". Still love it)
Might surprisingly be one of the best romances in anime that I can think of... Complicated relationships are showcased and brilliantly written. And the music steps it up by a million
As a gay man i love the series. Amazing music, so emotional. CANT WAIT FOR THE NEW MOVIE. Hate that it will be in two parts. And yeah the Singer of the Op is the Voice of one of the MC in the anime.
You definitely got some things right with your guesses. It's not what I'd consider an older anime. Manga started being released in 2013 and the anime aired in 2019. Without spoiling, it's definitely up there with my favourite animanga series (I've rewatched it over 10 times), mostly because of how character-driven it is, but also because it evokes a lot of emotions.
All the songs are written and composed by Centimillimental. He also performed the main OP for the anime, and the two movies that have been released. There is a third movie in the works. Sevreal of the Voice Actors also sing "insert" songs in the anime & movies. The ED for the anime is sung by yano Shugo, who voices the MC for the series. The whole series is based on a BL (aka Boy's Love or Queer, LGBTQ romance) that has recently ended in Spring 2023 with 50+ chapters. The anime was released int he summer of 2019. The second movie was JUST released on Jan 27, 2024 in Japan. I'd consider it a music/slice of life/ romance story. Several of the characters are in High School and several are in Unversity, which gives it a unique perspective. Centimillimental also released his works outside of Given.
**screaming** OMG!! I haven't watched your reaction yet, but I'm soo happy!! This is my favorite anime, I love it so so so so much!!!!🥺🥰😭 🎶Mada~🎶🥺 Yuki 😭😭😭😭
this is one of my favourite 'niche' anime ive watched (although thats absolutely the wrong word, i just never seem to hear it spoken about). it speaks to my heart and even though it has some of the worst cgi ive seen since overlord i still love it haha
oh this anime. its probably one of my favorite pieces of media ever. im no musician, and music is a large part of the focus, but my love for this anime comes from the journey and bonds it showcases absolutely beautifully. it left a profound impact on me. absolutely excited and thrilled a new movie will be coming eventually. if the fact that i still occasionally search for ppls interactions with it even though i watches it a few years ago doesnt sell you on it, i dont know what will. definitely worth a watch. the song fuyo no hanashi has a much larger impact if you watch the anime vs listening to it with no context, you'd be doing yourself a disservice to listen to that particular song without watching the anime.
HELL YEAH! FINALLY. This anime is great. I like it for how it deals with real life problems. The characters are fun and I don't feel like it's lacking anything. Really good music BL anime (I guess not anyone is into BL, so they don't give it a shot...). It's worth watching. Out of anything I watched Given will always have special place in my heart
Yeah, it’s a love story about two guys one of whom undergoing a deep trauma after some very personal and very tragic events, and about music that united them. Well, there is actually 3 love stories in this show, this one is the main story, but there is also 2 side stories with other characters, and first side story is about two other members of their band. Overall it’s a great romance drama music story and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it! (If you don’t mind gay romance ofc). I personally like the second couple better because of the characters, but the main couple has much more tragic story behind it… And yeah, Yuki 😰😭
There are few more songs like Fuyu no hanashi/ A Winter Story and Yoru ga Akeru/Dawn Breaks (these both might have spoilers from anime but are very good songs so you should react to them and both of these are sung by the red hair main character in the anime). Also the ed songs from movie which are: Movie 1 -Bokura Dake no Shudaika /Our only theme song movie 2- Super Ultra I love you (both of them are worth reacting too) It also has an ova with a song named- Uragawa no sonzai (again sung by the mc) Given is an anime which gives great importance to 'feelings' both sad and happy, so all the songs in it are full of various types of emotions filled in them and when you listen it feels like they are injecting those emotions into you. Its one of those shows which definitely leave an impression on you if you really get into it and try understanding.
Given is an incredibly sweet, emotional anime. It does involve a band and a romance. The songs in it are great (though there aren't a lot of them done by "the band", aside from two that are showcased in the episodes. The seiyuu for the MC is the singer of the ED here and he has a wonderful singing voice on top of being a good voice actor. Fans will come out of the woodwork if you react to the show. It might be a good followup to Violet Evergarden.
ngl this just looks like k-on but with ikemen which...yeah that does appeal to me pretty damn well. Day Beautiful Men of asking for the Tsukihime/Melty Blood openings
It's much better than k-on, you feel so strongly for all the characters and their emotions are portrayed so well.(actually i might spoil if I say too much) but it's not just the music that's good.
Ah I clicked on this because I haven't watched the anime, but have read the first volume of the manga, and I was curious to how the music would actually sound, because when reading I didn't understand the Japanese cultural touchstones being commented on to help explain to the reader what the music was like. It's interesting, I expected something heavier.
This anime is amazing. It's the story of two high school boys who connect with each other via music and I have to stop there or I'm just gonna word vomit the entire show. You should absolutely watch this even if its just off camera for your own enjoyment.
I was told rockstar twinks was the theme

They're in a band yes but there's also a beautiful story behind it ✨

IN TWO PARTS?
The OP is one of my go-to songs when I'm on the treadmill. Definitely pumps me up. Love it! Hope you give the anime a watch one day 😊

I like song "fuyu no hanasi" In ep 9
It’s fantastic and emotional
I don't like to recommend animes and this is not of my favorite animes but is a really good one and it's worth seeing
HELL YEAH! FINALLY.

7:52 yup, the same guy who sings the opening and ending is the voice actor for the main character of the anime!
Actually, the OP is sung by Centimillimental, not Yano.
Yes the gay band anime I love it
Madaaa…

You should totally check out One Piece opening 26 it’s a banger 👍
You should totally react to their songs that the character sings!
Песня мафую из этого аниме самый огонь
You should hear the music that the characters make.
have not seen the show but u r missing the OST "fuyu no hanashi". Best track in the show
Ah I clicked on this because I haven't watched the anime, but have read the first volume of the manga, and I was curious to how the music would actually sound, because when reading I didn't understand the Japanese cultural touchstones being commented on to help explain to the reader what the music was like.
