What hurts the most to me about Yuki is that Mafuyu didn't just lose his boyfriend. He lost his bestfriend; one who has protected and fought for him since childhood, who understood surviving parental abuse, who he experienced all of his firsts with. He lost a lot more than a lover, he lost someone who might have felt like his other half. If Yuki was alive, he could have had someone to share all these new experiences to. But he's gone, and grief is life-changing. I'll always be on Mafuyu's side no matter what. Also, people have pointed it out. Mafuyu is winter while Yuki is snow. Snow cannot exist without winter, thus Yuki cannot exist without Mafuyu. Food for thought, IG.
What makes my heart hurt the most is their fight The manga shows it all. It started because mafuyu was feeling neglected since Yuki was always doing music and leaving him aside. And then Yuki goes: “I love you! You know I’d do anything for you!” And then Mafuyu drops the bomb that’s also shown in the anime: “would you die for me then?!” And we know the rest It’s sooooo well done but damn it hurts
10:53 there is a lot of symbolism throughout the show. Yes. You are probably right. since Yuki means snow, (Ma)fuyu means winter, Uenoyama's name is Ritsuka which either is written like summer or it's kind of pronunciation of the character for summer, Aki in Akihiko is autumn and Haru in Haruki is spring. That's why they are The Seasons as well, haha
Given (anime) - 11 episodes, Given The Movie and OVA - Given: Uragawa no Sonzai are all available via streaming. Given Movie 2: Hiiragi Mix was released in theaters last winter, and was released on Jaoanese DVD/Blu Ray in August. We still waiting for it to stream online. Given Movie 3: Umi e is still in theatres in Japan with the Japanese DVD/Blu Ray release probably late winter/early spring 2025. The original manga has 9 volumes (all have official English translation from SubLime). The anime covers chapter 1-16. The first movie covers chapter 17 to 28. The OVA is scenes they cut from the first movie due to production issues during Covid. The last two movies cover the final chapters. The original manga ended in 2023. A New sequel manga started releasing in the CHERI+ managzine in Japa Jan 2024.
21:30 I think it also reflects how he used to be. He's been totally withdrawn since we, his high-school mates, and the band have met him, but that's only post-Yuki. I think these little moments are an insight to who he really is when he's truly happy.
Mafuyu's situation is is very complex and realistic, Yuki wasn't just is boyfriend he was also his best friend and a hero who saved him from his abusive father, and its even worse that they loved each other when Yuki died, it wasn't a break up, it wasn't their decision to let each other go, it was suddenly. Mafuyu will always treasure and love Yuki in his heart and will always be a part of him because they know each other since kids and have had a lot of experiences together, but he is NOT in love anymore with him, that's the different that i think some people don't get it, you can love a lot of people in your life and obviously Mafuyu won't forget Yuki, it's imposible he was an important person to him and a good person. But at the end Mafuyu learns to let him go and to tresure their memories together in a healthy way. Given is a story about Mafuyu overcoming learning to let go of is past (Yuki) with his future (Uenoyama). Mafuyu has a very big trauma, and some trauma's stay always with you, or if something happens related to that trauma it can bring bad memories again, you will see it in the ova and the movies how Mafuyu deals with his trauma, it's not something easy or quickly to do, and I personally think that when he remembers Yuki is not because he is still in love with him, but he remembers him because of the trauma (I don't know if I explained myself well), he is attached to the bad memories and the consequences of Yuki's death, the impact that it has let in him. Also Uenoyama learns and accepts that Mafuyu has that trauma and he always suoprts him and stays with him. I like the representation that Given does with the issue of dealing with big trauma's its very realistic, i personally hate it when tv shows overlook the trauma of the characters its 0 realistic and 0 empathic. Thanks for the reaction😊.
Please react to Banana Fish (But it deals with very heavy these such as sa and drugs and other things so if you are eonly comfortable to react on that then you can)
Would recommend reading a brief synopsis first, though. It can get extremely heavy at times. (That said, it's been one of my favourite mangas for nearly a decade.)
correct me if im wrong, but i think the list goes like this : 1. given season 1 2. ova 3. given movie 1 (i forgot the name) 4. given movie 2 (hiiragi mix) + one more in the making?
sasaki to miyano is honestly incomparable, i watched it right after given and it's absolutely not my thing, so i'm really confused why people want to see a reaction to it
Tbh i feel like it all depends on the person like how for you it isnt your thing, but that might not be the case for other people! Maybe its cause sasaki to miyano is more tame (idk how to explain what type of anime it is) (not tame but dramatic) or sum but i get whatchu mean I personally like sasaki to miyano but ofc thats js my opinion 🤷♀️🤷♀️
@inkunny2532 yeah, it's understandable in that sense for me, the differences in writing also felt drastic, and, aside from sasaki to miyano generally not being my vibe, i don't see much value in it as a reaction material i guess it also comes down to why people watch reactions, i like when shows prompt interesting discussions and have things for the person reacting to analyse. so i'm curious why sasaki to miyano is something you want to watch a reaction to, or if you think there's something i might be missing when not regarding this anime as something worth reacting to?
@@kita_no_ryuu Every people taste is different-for me personally, I don't like Given that much but instead like Sasaki and Miyano more, just because you don't like it doesn't mean there is not any people who also don't like it. It's fluff, healthy and very cute and that's simply why we want him to react to that.
It just depends on what you like. I like both but there's much difference between them. Given deals with the trauma of loss and finding the one thing that can keep you going while being a cute BL story. Sasaki to Miyano is just more about a boy falling for another boy, it's cute and wholesome and sometimes you don't need the drama tacked onto it. I won't even get into Banana Fish
@@2amCryptid The problem is that I like Sasaki and Miyano and also Banana fish (my favourite) but I can't get myself to like Given no matter how many times I watch it, there is something that bothers me about it everytime.

the way he's just completely traumatized by mafuyu's name 😭😭😂😂
He could just say Matthew and we probably wouldn't notice.
