As someone who is in their 40’s, I don’t consume a lot of lgbtq media, I find a lot of it to be over dramatized stereotypes but I watched this the weekend it came out and I was just so delighted at how damn sweet and adorable this show and the story was and just how lucky and fortunate anyone who is 15 and 16 or even younger to have this show to watch. I got so emotional bc we have come a long way.
I’ve definitely gotta rewatch Heartstopper season 1 for the eighth time, and then rewatch season 2 for the fifth time, just so I can prepare for season 3.
Oh, yes, the EMOTIONAL WHIPLASH is so real! It's even worse in Season 2, because it's less like episode to episode and more like scene to scene! And the emotions get more complex, too, as these kids and their relationships get more mature. But we always know that everything turns out all right in the end, they're all so wholesome and sweet and there really isn't any other show quite like it. I see you have actually watched the show before but this felt like watching it for the first time again. What a delight, I truly thank you for that.

ive binge watched season 1 of heartstopper probably nearing 30 times now? and for the first 5 rewatches i was definitely crying my eyes out the whole time. it gets better but even now i still will shed a tear or two. i love this show

I love tao. He is just overprotective of Charlie because he has seen him getting bulied last year. And there is also one more reason u'll know in S2. He is just a little loud. But If I were in Tao's shoes, I would have done the same thing. I am also a little possessive and protective towards my friends.
He doesn't see what we see. He just see Nick hanging around with Harry and others who bully them. Nick might not bully anyone, but he also doesn't stop them or stop hanging around them. So from his perspective he sees Nick screwing around with Charlie for laughs.
The Tao hate is very weird because people cannot get over themselves and identify with other characters except the main two. Like they aren't perfect and fuck stuff up and their friends have to deal with the fallout. What was Tao supposed to think is going on, since Charlie is hanging out with the people who bullied him in the past

No need to apologize for your feelings about Tao. There are Tao apologists who think he did nothing wrong, but he did. It's even worse because Tao is very aware of Charlie's issues with self-confidence and self-worth. Was he looking out for his friend? Absolutely. Did he handle it appropriately? Not at all! That doesn't mean he had bad intentions or was being malicious, but his attempt to be a good friend during that whole situation backfired spectacularly. Isaac showed how you should support a friend going through something like that. That said, Tao does grow and improve in S2, which is good.
Yes, because Charlie is written to be as perfect and inoffensive as possible whose only "flaw" is being a victim to everyone and everything else, making him the perfect self-insert for most of this show's demographic. Being the main character also means the viewers follow everything from Charlie's POV and fail to see things from other characters' perspective (who are literal teenagers btw but are being expected to act more mature than adults somehow) or understand that they know far less of what's going on than the audience. So of course people easily side with poor, misunderstood, flawed-in-just-the-right-ways, he's-basically-me-fr-fr Charlie more than Tao.

Heartstopper is one of my favourite shows of all time, so I'm so excited to watch your reaction to it!! I would also love to see your reaction to another LGBT show called Young Royals. It's a Swedish show so you'd need to have subtitles on (please don't watch it dubbed), but if you can get past that it's SO GOOD!! The overall vibe is quite a lot darker than Heartstopper, but it still has some adorable moments in it too 💜

TW: SA I remember crying, when Nick pulled Ben away from Charlie. I remember back in middle school, my best friend, who I knew since I was a baby, confessed her feelings for me. When I denied her feelings, and told her I didn’t reciprocate them-she SAed me that same night, at a sleepover- out of anger. I wish someone like Nick was in my life at the time and could’ve done the same for me. Unfortunately, not everyone has a Nick. (I do now tho and he’s absolutely amazing)

I think Tao was coming from a good place, wanting to protect Charlie from getting bullied again, but he definitely went about it the wrong way. I also feel like once everyone else in the friend group knew about Nick and Charlie, Charlie should’ve gone to Nick and said “Hey, now that everyone else knows, would you be okay with me telling Tao? I don’t want him to feel left out.” I understand coming out isn’t easy and everyone need todo it at their own pace, but Nick already told Elle, Tara and Darcy so he clearly was ready for the friend group to know.

@@TReacts. okay i can believe that but i don't believe "that's a very awful thing to assume." i did listen multiple times & if it sounds like a stranger being transphobic it's not "awful" to react accordingly even if it turns out to be a misunderstanding. i've had a shirt i had on saying i'm queer be misread as something queerphobic by queer strangers before we realized the misunderstanding, & while it's not pleasant being on the wrong end of that it wasn't "awful" for them to assume & i wasn't attacked by them asking what my shirt meant & i don't think "that's transphobic" is an attack when it doesn't even have to mean you think someone meant to be. i guess it's not important if others are hearing what you're saying you said but maybe consider some form of clarification, i could only hear "unless" & a context of "concern" though obviously good if that isn't the case. but again, as the actual uploader you have the info about if anyone else is saying so, & there's no way to know if anyone hears it like i do but leaves without commenting. or maybe they can find this comment with further, thanks for replying since that does provide some form of clarification since there's no "someone misspoke &/or you misheard" alert that goes off unless someone responds to it in a way that let's you realize it. since again, i did go back over the audio repeatedly to "make sure" & did keep hearing "unless," no "and that." great for everyone if i'm the only one who's hearing "unless" but even leaving a comment was a way to give any feedback & be disagreed with one way or another, instead of still hearing a casually transphobic moment but just clicking off without saying anything to be "nicer." again, i did stop & relisten several times to "make sure." great if nobody else hears it how i did but evidently possible haha. & they might just keep that to themself instead of expressing an Awful Assumption that you then have a chance to correct

I remember crying, when Nick pulled Ben away from Charlie. I remember back in middle school, my best friend, who I knew since I was a baby, confessed her feelings for me. When I denied her feelings, and told her I didn’t reciprocate them-she SAed me that same night, at a sleepover- out of anger. I wish someone like Nick was in my life at the time and could’ve done the same for me. Unfortunately, not everyone has a Nick.

love your reaction...but with most shows..its got to go thru the storm before making it thru to the otherside..overall thou even with the complications, this show is insanely positive compared to any other lgbtq show ive ever seen and I'm here for it. It actually took me awhile to watch it also, cause of all the pstd from other gay shows..and took a rewatch or two to really fully get everything out of it, its my fav series ever.

I think Tao was coming from a good place, wanting to protect Charlie from getting bullied again, but he definitely went about it the wrong way. I also feel like once everyone else in the friend group knew about Nick and Charlie, Charlie should’ve gone to Nick and said “Hey, now that everyone else knows, would you be okay with me telling Tao? I don’t want him to feel left out.” I understand coming out isn’t easy and everyone need todo it at their own pace, but Nick already told Elle, Tara and Darcy so he clearly was ready for the friend group to know.

@@TReacts. okay i can believe that but i don't believe "that's a very awful thing to assume." i did listen multiple times & if it sounds like a stranger being transphobic it's not "awful" to react accordingly even if it turns out to be a misunderstanding. i've had a shirt i had on saying i'm queer be misread as something queerphobic by queer strangers before we realized the misunderstanding, & while it's not pleasant being on the wrong end of that it wasn't "awful" for them to assume & i wasn't attacked by them asking what my shirt meant & i don't think "that's transphobic" is an attack when it doesn't even have to mean you think someone meant to be. i guess it's not important if others are hearing what you're saying you said but maybe consider some form of clarification, i could only hear "unless" & a context of "concern" though obviously good if that isn't the case. but again, as the actual uploader you have the info about if anyone else is saying so, & there's no way to know if anyone hears it like i do but leaves without commenting. or maybe they can find this comment with further, thanks for replying since that does provide some form of clarification since there's no "someone misspoke &/or you misheard" alert that goes off unless someone responds to it in a way that let's you realize it. since again, i did go back over the audio repeatedly to "make sure" & did keep hearing "unless," no "and that." great for everyone if i'm the only one who's hearing "unless" but even leaving a comment was a way to give any feedback & be disagreed with one way or another, instead of still hearing a casually transphobic moment but just clicking off without saying anything to be "nicer." again, i did stop & relisten several times to "make sure." great if nobody else hears it how i did but evidently possible haha. & they might just keep that to themself instead of expressing an Awful Assumption that you then have a chance to correct
