Awesome review. I was up and down on whether I should buy this amp so greatly appreciate your input..
It's a cool amp, but a bit pricey in my opinion. About the bluetooth issue, I think I've narrowed it down to trying to pair too many devices to it.

I have enjoyed these two videos, the BT functionality can indeed be an issue, but I’ve not seen as many issues as you, likely because I am not using BTS as much as you. K-aiR totally solved a huge number of issues. That would be my suggestion Scott if you do continue. Not only does it make the presets cross compatible across all 3 Kat air, Kat air EX and the WAZA headphones 🎧, it fixes all your basic complaints in a layout that will actually function well across one screen .
Unfortunately, I'm all android and windows and K-Air is only for iOs as far as I can tell. I tried to get it to connect to my Windows 11 PC, but for the life of me I just couldn't get it to connect to try to use FX Floorbaord.
I have bought and returned this amp and just about any other one with bluetooth / phone connectivity. There WILL be a problem, you WILL have to solve it - I don't know about you, but after playing IT tech. I am not too into being the recreational player I am. The bottom line is that you spend so much time on tech and finding just the right sound, that you forgot that it is YOUR playing that makes it sound good. I am still looking for a small amp with none of this, so I can just turn it on and play - any suggestions?
Have you tried the Katana mini? If a small amp is what you are looking for, It's small and not too loud but It sounds decent for what it is. Bluetooth was the main problem I had with it. I wish they had a desktop app for this "desktop" amp. As an IT tech myself, I enjoy the tech...but not Bluetooth. This thing, and I don't know if it's all of them, was so touchy with Bluetooth.
The Kat air EX does have wired analog in and dual outs, and can be manipulated by the panel. To call it BT only is fairly incorrect isn’t it ? I think ideally going forward boss should come up with an EX(S) version that has an updated panel with the same dual concentric encoders as the Kat 100 mkii. Who knows if this will ever happen? It is a fair complaint this but I do get in some cases the logic behind this idea. Another thing I’d love to see fixed is usb class compliance to be able to record direct to an iPad or iPhone your sessions like we can do on the BOSS IR2.
I agree the Bluetooth gets very frustrating I mean very frustrating!!! And yes it should be more patch friendly

Just spitballing here and I don't have the amp. Windows 11 has an Android subsystem that let's you run native Android apps. I bet that it simply the patch problem.
I love Boss stuff but every once in a while, they face plant themselves. This amp is a hard pass.

I could have tried bluestacks, but the main problem was that I couldn't get my PC to connect to it via blue tooth. It could see it, but no matter what I tried, I couldn't get it to connect properly. It was way too much of a headache. Now I'm playing with an ME-90, which is a lot of fun, but there is a lot to learn.

This amp could be gold label if it had the Mark II panel BUT they should integrate the new AIRD Amps because that's where the $$ is at. #bossofficial #bossglobal #bosskatana TAKE NOTES! Personally I don't care about the battery compartment or other useless features like Bluetooth or wireless. Just make a stable Desktop AMP!
I AGREE!!! AIRD would be awesome in this amp. I love it in the ME-90.
@@Guitarnivore Well Boss has a habbit of putting good stuff out but then not knowing what guitar players actually want. My case in point is the useless guitar patches you get witht he GX100 or any other Boss guitar processor unit. I got to try the Line6 Catalyst CX 60, and I have to say its agreat amp especially if you like a good distortion, but the size of it is just stupid for 2024. If Line 6 makes the Catalyst CX into a desktop amp its over for Boss. Just my 2 cents.
@@albertmarkethinkpr1325 Useless patches? Maybe you don't have any use for them, but there is plenty of demand for patches for the Katana.
@@Guitarnivore I mean factory standard patches. I don't like the standard boss/katana patches. I know you have been uploading your own but wasnt referring to that .
Can't disagree there. They're horrible. Oddly enough, most of the factory presets that come on the new Katana Go are pretty good. The downloadable ones aren't though.
The price is just crazy, having to get battery pack for 150 on top of the 599. is just nuts. at that price cant you get tube amps?
It's comparable to other amps in its class, but yeah that's a steep price. I'm in the process of reviewing the ME-90 and it doesn't even come with a power supply, but they include 4 aaa batteries.

BT only, no thanks. I purchased a speaker that was BT only, would not connect sitting beside my PC, no other BT devices at all, called customer support, "it is something on your end, it cannot be our product". Returned.
Yeah, kind of disappointed. Connecting the blue tooth audio to play music through the EX worked fine, but the midi was just too much of a headache. I'm working with the ME-90 right now and it used a version of Tone Studio on the PC. Working from the panel is easy enough too. Nothing to wait on, try to connect, etc.
