- This video I take a Suburban that has been sitting for a minimum of 8 years and bring it back to life (engine swap) and it was a job but totally worth it. I think in the end it is worth it because it seems to be a nice truck to have. enjoy the video.
I bought a 1999 suburban fully loaded w/ leather, looks immaculate. got it Cheap because of a supposed bad engine.. But turned out not to be a bad engine, intake gaskets allowed coolant into the crankcase getting the old chocolate milk look. And the idler was squeeling and rattling sounded like a bad bearing.. new idler, and belt. and intake gaskets with a water pump and thermostat. Runs like a dream..
Surprised you put a crate motor in. But, then again, it was just laying around. Glad to see your Dad pulling wrenches. One of a kind.
That’s pretty cool. Old school burban with a brand new engine.
A RUclipsr that doesn’t drag an engine swap out for 10 videos? Love it haha
Really looking forward to seeing what you found was wrong with the old engine!!!!!
Could it be the torque converter?
@@MK-bs2ol From my experience, it sounds like a classic spun rod bearing.....we'll see....
@@MK-bs2ol that would be in transmission and thus would've still been a problem with the new motor.
It's a spun rod bearing from what I heard if he pulls the pan Im sure at least one has play
Isaac on the throttle body. Remove the torkxnut screws and pull out the butterfly flange. There's a govonor there... Cut that butterfly flange flat and screw it back to the throttle body. Whooo buddy sheel open up bud. 😁
Yay something to watch!, Also my friend I feel you might be needing a small shop of your own soon with a lift and what not.
Good to see father and son working
On stuff together !!!!!!!!!!
Dude now that's the way to do it. Having a lift makes it so much easier.
Wish we could all turn on "Speed Up Mode." Think of the time you would save! 😁 Thanks for the videos! 👍
Kinda cool that a former employee will let you use the shop on the weekend when they’re not in there. You must have been a good employee ;)
He worked for him like 20 something years.
I have a spare 3rd Gen LS I bought for my old 04 Silverado a year or two ago. I'd love to find a good roller someday that isn't totally beat up or missing a lot of stuff that I could just plop it in to. But that won't be for a very long time, I don't have that kind of money for a car project. Especially since I have three projects as it is, my dirt bike, motorcycle and three wheeler. Out of the three the motorcycle being the more important one since it's the most complete and requiring the least amount of work. :)
I like how you saved your old work shirt just for these kind of days. LOL
My Lord ! This is my dream car ! and I couldn't be happier when watching a great person working on my beloved 1998 Suburban ! May God bless your hands, man !
Keep up the good work man and thank you for loving my comment it makes me feel validated and important
Gee, man handling that hood, the "wing" must be feeling better, lol! Glad you're getting a few of your projects taken care of too! Looking forward to the tear down... Tnanx!
I feel your back pain.. nice work man
Gone are the days of the 60's and early to mid 70's where engines were pretty simple to pull out..
True but to be fair modern cars can achieve longevity and fuel economy that vehicles back then could only dream of, and with less emissions.
@@Rattus-Norvegicus It all depends on what you build and what it has. I had a 1963 Pontiac Cat wagon and after swapping in a saginaw 3 speed with Overdrive and 3:08 rear pumpkin I often got over 30mpg on the highway I was literally idling along at 70
@@1gatomon Yeah but that's one example. And some full-size trucks can achieve 30+ mpg with ac on full blast nowadays. They're honestly different machines that happen to have a common ancestry.
I had an old suburban like this one. When it ran it was awesome. When they don't there not worth fixing, unfortunately.
This was a good reminder why I haven’t pulled an engine since ‘82. Great work Isaac!
Good job from rhoad island I rember when I swap moters in this Ford f150 in 24hr none stop so been there done that😁😁😁
Wow doesn't make sense though cos those 5.7's are pretty tough and reliable motors but of course this can happen however I think she's worth saving Isaac such a nice truck bro
The modern Chitty Chitty Bang Bang . Good luck Ike ! At least there is always a transplant for this one .
I got a 98 Silverado 2500 in that same color. Vortec 454. 2WD, long bed, extended cab, exactly what I was looking for. Bought it two years ago for only 2 grand! Excellent shape, one owner, only 107k miles on it! Got a lifter tick, but those can run for years like that.
That was a steal.
@@richc9503 Sure was! I spent my stimulus check and half my wife's to get it. I think the previous owner was scared of that lifter tick. I wasn't.
@@jeffrykopis5468 No guts no glory!
Nice truck ,sounds good with new engine.
Very cool episode, Isaac! That's some great wrenching! Can't wait for the next installment!
A lot of work, but Sounds Great! I would subscribe again, but they only let you do it once. Great job Isaac!
Pretty cool to see it saved, would be insane if it was a four wheel drive that clean
Glad you got it swapped out and all is well. Now you get a pretty decent daily driver Ike.
You are one hard working dude. 💪 Thank you for the video, great work. 👍
Always a Thumbs-up brother👍keep on wrenchin 👌☮
I got a 1999 LS suburban same motor and got bad engine after 2 half years of owning it was very reliable putting new in it as well love the videos thanks
Always loved watching you Isaac doing a engine swap in a day and a half is no small you give all of us backyard mechanics inspiration and by the way love the snap-on jacket I have one myself no mechanic is complete without a cool snap-on jacket
Sweet little trooper in the background.
You tackled a very advanced project (engine swap) in a very short amount of time. Congratulations. Respect.
Now thats the Ike I enjoy..You took a mess and made it a masterpiece. Congrats buddy..
My guess is the hub on the harmonic balancer was cracked. Instead of pulling the balancer on, bubba smashed it on with a big hammer.
that suburban was somebodys baby tho, looks really nice . wow the noise during and after firing the crate motor, I haven't the foggiest what that was, the starter wasn't happy for sure .
NIce work Issac. Made it look easy!
Really glad to see your Dad come help and hang out.I'm going to say a spinning rod bearing,1 gone, and cam bearings squeeling?
I need you to work on my 350 73 Nova SS Hatch...😂😂... I love Subs and can’t wait to see what was wrong with the engine... the time lapse was pure genius.✊🏾👍🏾✊🏾👍🏾
33 years young! Pulled my tranny and did a full clutch job on my 99 danger ranger 2wheel 5 speed. Good to see you two work together! My old man is definitely the reason I can and will take anything apart and learn as I go and fix it! Glad the shoulders doing good! Keep up the videos man can't wait to see more!
Poor old Suburban... I've always loved those, especially with "barn doors"... thanks for saving it Ike!
Hey Ike, my dad thinks a loose rocker or rockers maybe?
Can’t wait to see it fully refreshed!
this is a clean 2wd burban, this would be a badass truck to put air ride suspension on.......and the cool factor of pulling up to a gas pump and laying frame is indescribable
yo man, if you still have your LT1 CAPRICE, you should get that ready for that old car ride you and john do every year!! that thing is now a classic!!!
Good job Issac! It sounds awesome, but hey, what do you expect, it’s a Chevy!
Great work on the Suburban Isaac lets hope that noise at first is gone for good and everything works ok. Thanks......
That was a days work buddy. She's lookin good 👏🏻👏🏻
All the electronics had to do a quick relearn...just did my jeep a few weeks ago and I was nervous I did something wrong! Can't wait to see washed bearings and that's it hopefully!
Wish you were nearby Nashville TN... I have a damn go kart with mechanical drum brakes and I can't figure out for the life of me how to get the damn drum off lol. It was a total rebuild and was out in the woods for a looong time. Watching you and the C&C channel made me want to finally do a project. So far, a sweet go kart build (minus the damn brakes) and a total overhaul of a Baja Warrior with much customization... Even got a couple of 50cc scooters going. So much fun to to this stuff... Love the videos. Do one on go kart mechanical drum brakes.. LOL
welcome back @Isaac glad to see you back it with your trucks again.
💪😁👍
Let's hear the Biscayne warm up and set. That car sounds awesome.
Nice job on the engine swap. Looking forward to the test drive. I was in North Carolina for work recently, wish I could have toured you and John’s shop and projects. Hopefully you guys make it out to the west coast some time….
You lost me when you started fiddling with the oojit and the thingummydo.. crackin' video though :) x
I'm already subscribed Issac. I know how it feels when you crank up an engine for the first time and hear something that you don't want to, it's a heart stopper. But! It'll be fine! Good job, Ike! ( p.s. good, I was hoping that you would tear into that engine and find out what the noise was)
Bro your almost at 100 thousand, wow, keep up the grind!I love your channel over the other, your a master mechanic broski, and your humble about it,keep em coming Ike!!
Can't wait whats wrong with the old engine.... watching here fom the Philippines. shout out on your next upload thanx.
Nice old Burban, I'd like to find one like that. Looking forward to seeing what happened to the old 350.
For the not so budget conscience the ls swap is pretty good. I have an LS swapped C 1500
Another one saved to be used again bud .... Well done 👍👍
Hey Ike thanks for doing the engine video I asked about thats a nice vehicle you got there. Hope it takes care of you for a long time can't wait to see what was wrong with the old motor keep up the good work God bless peace out.
Good job.Sounds good waiting for your road test.
Really loved this one, one of my favorites in a long time. Can’t wait to see what is next.👍
Congratulations Issac :) also glad newer engine worked excellent for very good news to and that old 350 be interesting be what happened to it ! I have idea might happened and wait for what happened in next video you show ISSAC :) !
Damn Issac I wish I lived a little closer I'd love to have you look at my 05 Silverado. It just doesn't have the power my 03 had and I can't figure it out, lol oh well love the videos man keep em coming
I'm glad the crate motor if doing great! Loving those videos man!
Nice job, good way to make a few thou in a few days. Way to hustle
You should build you a small shop with a lift so you can do more car videos it seems your passionate about it and I liked watching this and your other car videos
You can tell the age of that shop by the size of the door opening. I once rented a old house and when I drove into the attached garage with my narrow 1952 Ford F2 3/4 ton pickup I could not open the door on the truck to get out, so I had to climb out the window into the bed to get out. That got old real quick and I started parking on the street.
I can tell from here it's got a spun rod bearing...we call that the death rattle
Probably had too many oil changes...
Isaac it'll be fine. when you replace the engine. before you start the truck you must shut the hood or the engine wont start up. it will fire once and die. 1999 models
The gmt400 is the trucks ever made hands down
This Chanelle really dose deserve 100000 subs and a lot more. Good luck
ike you make awsome videos and your a mighty fine mechanic!
Do a video on the old engine tear down to see what killed it.
This is great. Last month I bought a 1999 suburban k2500. Maybe Ike will be working on similar things to me and can make the mistakes for me 😆
Very cool you still have access to the old shop. Your old boss retired, isn't that him?
Great video, a master mechanic!
great stuff thanks, that was a lot of work hope it is worth it!
How was the shoulder treating you, I know engine swaps can be brutal, best of luck with the new ride. I had 89 burb 1/2 ton 4wd, I drove that truck 17yrs, wish I never let it go, I loved that truck
Shoulder is ok. Still getting better
I was wondering the same thing, he reached full spread across the width of the hood and all I could think was Nooooooo dude rethink your approach to the task LOL glad he found a better choice with the best case scenario for the situation . sigh of relief for me it ain't been that long for him to do it the way he started out to.
It’s like deja vu when my sons was going out as I was hoping it was the pressure plate as well. I drove it 40 plus miles to a friends house to work on it. Got all the way there until the oil pressure started dropping so I drove all the way back home and still never blew that motor. We put a new crate motor in it.
hello.....well first ear protection. i stayed at a holiday express, so i know a thing or two, maybe three. when you knew it was not a pully, you should have started to tear it down.but you got'er done. and yes that noise at start up was a little concerning.... but with the price of gas not sure you want to start driving that beast around town.
you may want to put a basket on your street minibike to get around lol stay well
Good videos like your channel anything Chevy or whatever man keep it going
Crazy thing is I've been watching cars and cameras for a long time I'd say atleast 4 years or more .... and I still don't know if I'm watching you or your brother, yall look so alike that if you swaped spots in a episode idk if I would notice ...
Thanks for sharing man love the videos and the Motorhead stuff it's awesome keep up the hard work!!
Absolutely awesome man I am so jealous of you I had to change my transmission on my 2002 Chevy suburban in my garage on the floor not a fun feat especially to get those top bolts on the bell housing
With that being said if I was in the same state as you I would’ve been in there like a dirty shirt helping you brother
Those Vortecs should have a roller cam. So there should be a thrust plate on the front of the cam to keep it from moving forward. Maybe that plate came loose, and the Torrington bearing got chewed up. Or the plate is rubbing on the timing chain. Is that it?
Sounds like you need to start a channel too.
@@Officer_Naughty-Cuffs Nah, too much work. I'm retired, lol.
@@jeffrykopis5468 Mmm hmm. You may be, but I still heard that knowledge still up in ya lol.
Love your channel brother!
Thanks
Old engine sounded like my old washing machine when it broke its' drum support, minus the shaking itself to bits and destroying itself... :P
Great video glad you posted keep them coming thanks
Just a shot in the dark. One may be a more likely be the answer and that is it was ran dry on oil at some point. The other may be a plausable but not a true acurate answer, but the harmonic balancer may have spun, and seporated causing it to squeek and with the reduced dampening may have damaged the bearings on it.
Sounds like one of those plastic bearings on the main shaft
I think it spun a rod bearing, like literally spun ti out of its little notch holder thing on the rod.
I had a hardbody a few years back I was just cruising at 65 and it lost power for a minute like someone hit the brakes then all of a sudden it ran like normal. When I got off the freeway it was making the squeak sound like your burban...
I knew I broke it.
When I got it home on a traler i started it and let it run for probably 30 minutes and the squeak slowly turned into the knock of death.
What about the lift at cars and cameras garage. Awesome old boss for letting you use his tho
Advice if you need a fuel pump use a Bocsh 044 those are the best. Also I think Mercedes Benz uses the bocsh pump
My 99 suburban was making the same noise. It was a spun cam bearing for me. Unfortunately it oval the cam passage this ruining the block, so a new motor is going in next week.
Swap the spider injectors out for the multiport conversion ones.
The flex plate can cause that or a bad starter pinion return spring can also cause that because the pinion keeps jumping into the flywheel....
Looks and sounds good bro
