    For $275 that's an outstanding buy Ray! And Conrail too! The Dakman will be proud of you! Good old solid American-made Lionel with a good old E-unit (Love the buzz!) and conventional control. Your grandchildren will still be using it decades from now!
    I've got a Lionel Trainmaster made in 1986 that has that buzzer horn, so it's typical for the era. If you want you can easily upgrade the sound with sound units from various sources. I happen to like the Williams by Bachman, they're very reasonable and easy to install. Personally though I've left the buzzer horn in my Trainmaster alone for the time being.
    I would put some fresh lubricant in the engine if you haven't done so already.
    A year older than you are? I've got you beat, I've got a Lione 259e set that's from 1938, fifteen years older than I am! (I was born in 1953.) It's 85 years old and still going strong!
    Congratulations! And that's a good train shop you go to! You didn't give the name but I suspect who it is.
    If there's any advice I can give you give me a shout.

    Nice...I worked for Conrail as a Special Agent just before the split to Chessie and the NS. I left after I was absorbed by the NS in the Chicago District....hated them. If CSX would have taken us I would have stayed...but it wasnt the case. A lot of good memories at Conrail...if fact one of the old New York Central buildings still being used has a plaque on the outside that stated that on a date such and such President Abraham Lincolns Body laid in State on the funeral Tour. Cool stuff.

    Congrats on acquiring a working locomotive! I love how you talk about how old it is while the "1 year limited warranty" is facing the camera. It's a beautiful set, and regardless of the age, I hope you get years of enjoyment out of it. =)

    Nice find. Most of the time it's a good idea to check local train stores to find what you're looking for, and you can get some good deals. Just like today I got some stuff for a great deal, 4 MTH premier freight cars for $120, just gotta look out for it sometimes.

    A little trick if those doors are stuck and they opened so far use a little bit of gear oil in a tracks of the doors top and bottom and open them up with that little green stick you use very carefully

    Ray I am thinking you could take out the screws and spray then a similar Conrail blue. Then carefully screw back in then dab with touchup brush.

    To help you out, if you have a wooden turn table type of thing, you could use that to make it easier on you when you show each loco and train cars. Hopefully that helps you out.

      Those wooden turntables are called "Lazy Susans" and you can find them at most home goods stores. You might even find one used (and cheap) at a local thrift shop.

    • @wayneantoniazzi2706
      @wayneantoniazzi2706 Год назад

      He got a great deal all right! Sometimes there's gold in what the bigger dealers call "NOS" or "New Old Stock," meaning things like sets or indiviual pieces that have been siiting on a shelf or a warehouse unsold for a long, long time. As in this case they won't have all the up-to-date "gee-whiz" electronics but like that Conrail set they'll be simple, rugged, and reliable.

    @benjaminlorenz2181 Год назад

    I'm from germany, so i don't really saw much models from Lionel. But as he opened the box, i honestly was expecting a bit more reprensentative inlay than just several boxes of cars and a loco in a not seethrough blister box in a corner. That packaging looked boring. I've seen way better looking sets even out of the seventies.
