Thanks for opening peoples eyes to what is possible just besides their own neighborhoods or even just the states. Thanks again!

    • @jacbrito
      @jacbrito 3 года назад +2

      @@czogg99 Rio's been run for decades by the left, both the city and the state, even the country has been under leftist rule for decades, yet many still fall for the leftist b.s. propaganda of caring about minorities and the poor. It' s the recent right wing federal government which is finally trying to change things, by making it easier for people to open their own businesses, by lowering federal taxes, by fighting big tech censorship, by investing heavily in new roads and rail, ports and airports infrastracture, by dismanteling bureaucracy, by bringing fresh water to villages and towns in the arid and dry northeastern 'sertão', by sending billions to cities and states to fight the pandemic (and many governors and mayors have stolen great chunk of that money), by fighting the crime (in his first year 2019 violent crimes dropped 30% in the whole country)etc etc, despite all the establishment, the elites , the mainstream media, the leftist supreme court, as all the institutions (universities etc) which have all been infested with leftist militants all these years, despite them all going against everything Bolsonaro does, and still rooting for the same old thieves to take over the presidency again. As if all the rats trying to keep the new president from building a better country were not enough, the pandemic took a toll on the economy both locally and worldwide.

    i live in florianopolis, south capital of santa catarina., ''the magic island''.. we have favelas, i was even raised most of my life in ''morro das pedras'' meaning hill of the rocks or stones.. thing is, its a fukin island.. so traffickin happens in the beach, we have hills but most favelas, which we call quebrada here, most of them are in a straight street level, disguised among strategic places beetween public places, so they dont carry... maxim you will find 1 or 2 of the guys selling maybe have a pisstol hidden somewhere, maybe at his house, hundreds meters away, you know... its more peaceful.. but we have favelas that work the same way as in rio os sao paulo, difference is in the geography and social context, we are the number 1 tourism point in south brazil, number 2 and 3 are in the same state, 100, 200 km away... so it changes the structure of the quebrada... as im speaking, at night, its summer, you cant walk in the beach , in the sand, yu need to take a coiuple steps inside the water to walk in the beach, sand is packed
    half are from the outside country, the other half is divided beetween locals like me and brazilians from other cities states etc.. HUUUUUUGE economy in seafood, surf, beach in general, tourism, it generates 40% of the city's PIB
    i like to compare to my students (joking, mostly) comparing to the U.S... Rio would be LA, Sao paulo would be New York, Florianopolis,salvador and recife share the crown being our ''miami'''.. hehe

      Not really , Rocinha is a very organized, vibrant and well known community. They have NGO's, workshops, schools, everything. It is close to the "asphalt", as they call the rich normal areas. The dangerous places are far away from the southern touristic zone, with all the beaches and glamour. If you go deep into the north you will enter no-mans-land. It is like a war zone, where not even the police has the guts to wander. They have to use armored vehicles and choppers to get around. Druglords carry army weapons like AK47 and Colt rifles. If you ask for permission and have a guide they will let you in unharmed. Since drugs are the business core, the locals won't mess with costumers and tourists, or else they will face the fury from the boss of the hill. However if there is a police raid, you should run for your life. But it only happens when the governor wants to prove something (avoid electoral years).
