      tamron won't start at 70 for sure bruh...you don't know tamron Respects it's customers so it will give a lens that starts where the mid range left which is 75 (so it goes from the 17 to 28 from 28 to 75 and now we need a 75 to whatever :D )

      @@IntziGG I don't know if it's really a respect for customers as much as an understanding of what most people need and breaking the mold of the standard dslr trio. Remember, Sony owns a good chunk of shares in Tamron and has a shared interest. I agree though it will probably be something like a 75-180mm.

    I have got quite long decision process in 2021 about sel70200G F4 vs sel70200GM F2.8 and Tarmon 70-180 2.8
    After all I have decided to buy 70-200 G F4 because:
    - 70-200 GM 2.8 is "old" and an expensive lens
    - I have some trust issues with 3rd party lenses (tamron)
    The trigger for my decision was the price on the Amazon NL: only 889 Euro.
    The old suggested price was 1699 Euro, regular price was 1099 Euro, so 889 was for me a very good price - more than 300 euro cheaper then tamron 70-180 and almost 1/3 of the GM.
    I'm considering 70-200G as a bridge lens - I'm waiting for the new GM 70-200 2.8 MKII

    This is a great lens that captures sharp pictures. However,
    I would not buy this lens again as there is no teleconverters option compared
    to the other 2.8 70-200 mm version. It seems that they did this on purpose so
    that others would buy the costlier 2.8 option. Seriously look at other lenses
    as 200 mm is only a moderate zoom capability without options to easily increase
    your range. Due to this limiting factor, this lens will probably sit in your
    bag more than it should. You should find other solutions with increased range
    and/or the ability add teleconverters or you will be forced to buy and carry
    additional lenses/weight.

    Why would you use Super-35 when you can crop in post? Does it make a difference in the end?

    • @timschulz3714
      @timschulz3714 4 года назад

      I'm not an expert on the subject, but my understanding is that using Super-35 and cropping in post will yield the same image quality (Super-35 is essentially cropping in-camera as I understand it). The reason you would use Super-35 is to help with composition. If you already know you want the extra reach then you can use Super-35 to make sure you have the composition right, whereas if you shoot full-frame and then crop afterwords it will give you more freedom with the crop, but the interesting part of the image might not be composed as well (leading lines, framing, ect.).

    • @richinlukang7042

      @@timschulz3714 When a 24MP full frame sensor is put into crop mode, the resulting image size is 10.7MP. Wouldn't it be better to take a full 24MP image and crop in post while still having those extra 13MP to work with? Even after cropping the image, a file over 10.7MP could still be rendered. Or, wouldn't it be better to just put the full frame lens on a crop sensor camera to get the cropped sensor zoom effect while still achieving 24MP image quality?

      There are pros and cons to both. Hard to say but value goes to the Tam.

    • @rickymcc9072
      @rickymcc9072 4 года назад +4

      @@StefanMalloch Agree. I always wanted f2.8 but without the GM heft. Saw multiple great Tam reviews, so bought one. Compared both then sold my Sony f4 G. Now suffering with post cognitive dissonance and agonise if I really made correct decision! Emotionally I might feel better had I never heard about the Tammie option. Love the better size of T, if not the build quality and at f2.8 it beats Sony at short focal lengths on sharpness across frame. It's more nuanced at longer lengths, but Sony is arguably the stronger performer and benefits hugely from OSS (which I now really miss). Although T is quicker and sharper at shorter focal lengths, I find I'm using a lens like this more at longer lengths. It's easy to carry/use a small prime like 55 or 85mm f1.8 when you want more speed, in lower light, for better edge sharpness, less heft etc. Not so easy towards 200mm, where OSS also benefits the 'real world' use case. Pixel peeping corners at 100% mag in Lightroom, for real world use, isn't that helpful or relevant. I had never felt I was somehow missing out on resolution with my old, now sold, Sony G.
      In conclusion I'm left feeling that these lenses are probably pretty equal overall on a broad balance of factors, but exhibit different relative strengths. So it's "six of one, half a dozen of the other". A tricky call - which one is best really depends on each individuals relative needs and intended uses. Much to like in my new Tammie, just not so much to love. Whereas in retrospect I think I did love my now gone Sony G. Ohhh the dilemma!

    As for landscapes I cant see why auto focus speed or I.s would be of any use at all.

    Now that Tamron has announced their 70-180 f2.8, and that everyone is also waiting for the Sigma's 70-200 f2.8, the answer to the question "should you still buy the 70-200 F4 in 2020", is now obvious : NO, NO and NO. It's a solid lens, and it's nice in white, but we all know that Tamron and Sigma's will offer good alternatives for less money, at f2.8. With no surprice, you can see more and more 70-200 F4 on the second hand market (in Europ for sure). If you've got one and are interesting by the Tamron or Sigma's, don't wait 6 months to sell it, otherwise it'll be too late. Prices will drop, just as they are with the 24-70 GM (due to the Sigma's 24-70).
