I test drove this car, absolutely superb to drive, and has great styling . The model I drove was the Intens model with the 17 inch carbon alloys. Metallic Black with privacy glass. It was brilliant . Well done Renault. No problems with steep hills either, so I don't know what she meant by that. She must have had it in Eco mode, which restricts the power.
Me too, Mat is better making reviews, but Rebecca is very enjoyable at the view, of course I'm not saying than she don't make good reviews, just Mat better for me
Some of the comments are a bit silly. The reason Renault rent out the battery is so it can be replaced with a new one whenever it is necessary, batteries deteriorate with age and lose range.
livc44411 How about i what to take that chance or that risk and to replace on my own costs the battery if and when it fails?????? Let me be the judge of that as a user of that vehicle ... or i do not have the rights?!
Yes, this killed the Zoe sales. You can buy the car outright now. The car makers are dead keen to get the old ones back to make the wall storage units for solar panels. This makes the batteries effectively almost free.
WillieWagglestick Either pcp the car or buy it outright. The option is there now. The rented car batteries are to be upgraded to a new upgraded (40KWH?) pack. Ya takes yer pick.
WillieWagglestick if you rent the battery , you have always a new battery because renault gives a new one all along the life of your Zoe when the level falls under 70% . The price of your car keeps a good price ! the others E V lose all their value .
Rimac from Croatia makes by far the most advanced batteries in the world, and its only a small young company. Their 1000 hp supercar has a range of 600 km's and with their charger takes very short time to power from empty to full.
The price is more important and that's left out! Anyway the Zoe has a special 3-43kW AC charge. It depends on the power offered by the socket. A 3-pin 240V 13A can charge it in 6-7 hours. In the UK, home chargers are freely provided by British Gas so a 240V 16A would charge in under 6 hours, or optionally a 240V 32A would charge the Zoe in under 3 hours. Mind you, the 0-80% charge time is very quick as the last 20% takes a while. The Zoe can charge in 30 minutes but it doesn't use the CHAdeMO.
Oil producers will never allow for less oil to be sold. As soon as mpg starts to nudge towards 40 or 50 mpg average across model lines, oil will plummet causing old fashioned engines to be continued to be the favorite engines. It costs as little as $300 to produce an old fashioned 30 mpg engine. $6000 to produce a hybrid set-up. The profit in old fashioned cars are enormous.
It's for 1 to 3 years actually. Usually, that covers yearly battery maintenance and the price of the full battery. If you think that the battery will fail after 2 or 10 years, no matter how unproven, Renault will be responsible for the battery. Though they specifically say that it's to calm drivers about battery aging. 70 a month for peace of mind does sound pricy. After the 1-3 year lease is up, you can opt for it again. Though, no one knows the price of a second lease as that's yet to happen.
are electric cars more economical in terms of fuel vs electricity? or do you spend the same as you do in a gasoline car, only being more enviroment friendly?
this car probably wouldn't sell well in the states...but I do like the car as a commuter. Us Americans like our cars bigger and more stylish I suppose. And glad to see Rebecca and hear her beautiful accent!
I'm not denying Renault make some good cars. I actually really like the Laguna Coupé. I just don't understand car branding anymore, there seems to be hardly any cars aimed at men, unless they're German. I mean, if you compare European car names to American ones... It's either numbers and digits or Clio, Kangoo, Focus, Fiesta, Beetle, Golf, Picanto, Rio. Very soft 'girly', names. American names: Corvette, fiero, Solstice, Delta, Impala. I'd love a decent right hand drive muscle car in England.
Well as far as you know...then you dont know. :P Check out the Rimac Concept One. 1000 hp, 3800 Nm of torque, 4WD, 4 electric engines supercar. It has a range longer than any petrol supercar when driven at equal speeds, and at normal driving it has a range of 600 km's. The company also made a fully electric BMW M3, which holds several guiness world records for electric cards, and it also has around 600 hp.
I would buy this car if I could afford too. Even if it may be ugly to others, I personally like it. Give it 8 years then maybe I'll throw my money at Renault or BMW or VW
Still don't like the Renault dashboard, but it is hugely improved over the plain ugly beige&blue plastic dashes late 90s and 00s Renaults had. As for the exterior: I like the front more than I do the back end. ;)
Its not just a concept. Its a made car, several were sold already. And its not the first car. Companies M3 fully electric is well known and tried, has been around for years. So their drivetrain and batteries have been tried out.
Not bad looking for a Renault. Your forgetting though that in the price of fuel, your also renting that battery, which you wouldn't do with other cars so, that's £70 a month on your fuel bill. Other problem (apart from range) is that if you don't have a garage, that lead is very likely to get messed with, especially if you have on street parking :o(
Yes, same problem with those though, producing hydrogen fuel atm takes huge amounts of energy, huge co2 output once more :o( These new batteries may be a solution though :o)
Lastly, the Rimac Concept One is a concept car, a beautiful one but, it is still a concept. If the car comes out, we shall see if it keeps Rimac's promises! (and hopefully the company will do better than Fisker)
The batteries cost about 5000 €. If you rent the batteries you can buy the car for a cheaper price, similar as a normal car and, in the future, the batteries will be always ok.
The renting price for the battery is STARTING at £70 per month!?!? And that's beside the fact that you still need to pay for the electricity! I spend far less on the petrol! Only way this car can justify its total price is if it is constantly put on the road, especially if it is used as a delivery vehicle or for taxi business or whatever, just to be on par with any average small cheap petrol car. However, they didn't mentioned one important thing: does it have heating system, and if it does, how well can it do during cold winters and how big impact does it have on distance traveled.
The Fisker Karma provides an autonomy almost infinite... due to the generator made with a petrol engine.. so.. you're carring with you a plug-in powerplant.. That's something smart... and yet, in my opinion, it's more beautiful than the Tesla...
The only electric car that is worth the price, is the Fisker Karma.. which uses a petrol engine to create electric power.. and it does something like 140mpg ... now that's a real economical and really helpful car, to our world...
Stop. The video didn't mention the cost of the car which is in the £15000 area after Govt reductions. £3 per charge would be off high rates. The only time to charge it would be at night where the cost would be half. The rent is a battery insurance. £70 a month is relatively cheap, more importantly it's a fixed sum which is good for company ownership and a bonus as petrol's always on the rise. The biggest advantage would be that the Zoe would be exempt from the London congestion charge, forever.
ok ok fully electric and so on - so please include in your test list of cars - TESLA MODEL S - i think you did not do full review of this car? correct me if i'am wrong? maybe some corss check review of all electric caras: Ampera, Leaf, Tesla, Zoe, i-Miev, maybe some pre production golf-e ?? and at the end some cost/performance summary? how far we are from this "fully electric cars future?"
TESLA is already available. And I really like it too. HOWEVER, Telsa is SUPER expensive: about €70K and it is not with the finition that I wld like - if I put what I want : €85K. Ok the car is good looking with a very good range for an electric car but ... €85K - is it not better to put this amount in something else (house etc....)?
Hey! Renault/Nissan how about a charging trailer available for longer journeys. Im talking about a trailer with a small constant speed inbuilt petrol or diesel engine and electricity generator and some storage space. Good idea? I think so...
Who can afford a super mini that costs £15,000+ more to buy than a regular car and you also have to cough up £70 a month to rent batteries? Yet it still offers only a 100 mile range, provided you are careful! As for performance? Only go out on Sundays, because you will keep up with all the other Sunday drivers! A better bet is the blue motion diesels offered by several manufacturers!
More electric cars please. I wish someone would build an affordable electric car for men though. It's all little girly hatchbacks at the moment. I want a large sedan or wagon. Or even a van so I can use for work.
This is starting to get funny. My point is not about power or range, my point was about batteries. The Rimac uses LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) batteries which is a technology that is similar to Li-Ion. Producing LiFePO4 is very taxing for the environment and, you need to do a lot of low CO2 pure electric miles to compensate for the damage you've done when producing the battery ... When I say a lot, I mean A LOT, easily tens of thousands if not more and then you have to replace the battery!
That is true but the solution producing hydrogen on a large scale might not be that far off, there are multiple potential ways of doing that like for example creating a bacteria with a programmed DNA which will produce hydrogen from water or air for example ... that being said, you can make a bacteria produce diesel too!
At the moment the financial advantages of EVs over ICEs are clear cut, but as the market matures and oil become expensive again, will the differences be so marked? I doubt it as there is nothing for nothing in this world. When all the oil has been burned, and prices used to reflect that matter, we will be left with little choice other than EV or Walk. Think ahead a little and the limited resources of oil will last a little longer, but not by much.
No car tax but £70 per month battery hire on top of it being £25,000+ with a 100 mile range ?....they're making these cars to expensive to own which is defeating the while object of them in the first place.
very good, now I want to see the reply from the japonese, as long as they keep the cars simple and with a fairly good looking design the electrics will begin to sell. most people fail to understand that this is only the beginning and this cars are what elon musk would do for the price....

This is the first electric car i like

If you buy a second hand one in 2021 do you still have to rent the battery? Seems a bit weird to me.
NB Renault just announced the 2017 Zoe will have a 200+ mile range.
I can confirm that it would do 330km on local roads, but only 250km on motorways
this is by far my best troll to date..i managed to piss off half of all the viewers and all of the other romanian viewers. great success.
It also only takes 30 mins to charge to 80% and has this voice thing so that at certain speeds pedestriand can hear the car but it can be turned off 😆
Think they did a fine job making a small EV that looks contemporary, light and dynamic. Good review thanks ;).
£70 a month for the battery rental? I pay less than that on diesel for my 2.L Mondeo
Noel Morgan it s 70 euros for 12000 km/year , not 70 pounds . may be 45 pounds

Impressive range and pricing considering the kit you get as standard
Could you please do a review on the renault Kangoo?
How long to charge? Quite important info missed out.
Great review.
Nice car, I like it.
Hi Webbekah. You like it slightly longer or fatter?
your steering wheel is on the wrong side mate
I believe its done so you don't worry about the replacement costs of the batteries.
What a beauty and I am not talking about the car.

That advert about the stop sign is so annoying!!!!
I agree. It's enough to make you NEVER buy STP.

You have to RENT the batteries?!? Is this normal?
The Tesla Model S isn't on sale in the UK.
I just thought it would be worth saying this for people who are interested with the new models you can own the batteries
Sure didn't mention that it charges to 80% in 30 minutes
As long as the charging is done by morning it doesn't relay matter
