Mance Lipscomb was born right down the road from my house. One of his earliest jobs was driving a buggy for the legendary Texas Ranger, Frank Hamer. If he could hear Eric Bibb lay this out, Mance would come back to life snd start all over again. Bless these fine, gifted American treasures. 🙏🏽
😻, I'm grinning.... that's the power of this version of the song, it was always a good song, but when you play this well & your voice has this much depth & warmth ........ a decadent pleasure to listen to. 👏👏👏😍😎👍❗️ sooooooooo talented.
I sat in front of Mance Lipscomb in 1969-70. He looked me straight in the eyes for 1/2 of " Goin' back to Texas". It was one of my most memorable moments. Those men were giants. He hove a song forward like train.
Its pretty interesting - from standard, tune the low E down to Db - the rest of the strings go down a half-step. Call it Drop Db? 6 - Db 5 - Ab 4 - Db 3 - Gb 2 - Bb 1 - Eb Capo at the 2nd

His guitar intro is classic blues guitar picking, but his voice immediately blew me away. His version of this song is incomparable. I saved this version to my collection. The fact that it was live is even more impressive.
I think it sad in a way that a contemporary can play music better that the creator of that music. In this case however I believe that if Mance Lipscomb were alive today he would be would be pleased with this wonderful rendition of his music.
Eric Bibb deserves FAR more recognition...he is that rare talent who keeps sounding better & better with each passing year...
Yeh he is brilliant
Well us fans will just keep lapping up his gigs in small intimate venues. He's wonderful.
Yeah man, he’s the real deal. Crazy talent.
I will listen to anything Eric Gibbs does, his singing and guitar playing does it for me.

A genuine BluesMan.
Never heard of him. He’s great. Youngish too. Good to see. Has that ham handed arthritic primitive groove that is so hard to get.

Anyone know what this guitar is?
I´m not completely sure, but I think it could be a Larson Prairie Style OM.
Who calls a baby MANCE!?!!
I've never seen such an odd mic, the likes of which is used on this guitar. It would appear to be VERY unidirectional.
