The internet (Reddit) made me paranoid about pickpocketers since I was traveling alone - but I actually felt so safe in Spain! I was careful, but there were always families walking around :) te amo españa 🇪🇸
It's always good to be cautious, waiters and tour guides reminded us to be careful. But it was beautiful and the food was great. So glad you got to see and enjoy the sights! Viva España! Safe and happy traveling!
That's a problem in Barcelona, not in Madrid.
If you don’t have valuables hanging outside your pocket or unzipped bag, you won’t have a problem as these petty thieves only steal when things are in a “convenient” location

Hi Maya, I am glad you had fun in Spain, but you did end up in some of the most expensive places. There are other places that are better priced and I feel you could have tried a bit more local food, to be honest. I encourage you to try some of our finest foods ❤
Also, Madrid city is quite safe I don't know if in the US it has bad name but I assure you that in general is a safe city.

I learned Spanish using Lingoda (just conversational) but I didn't really need it! Other than trying to count things or pronounce food :)
The Mercado de San Miguel is extremely tourist-oriented so prices are very inflated. I've only eaten there once. Not long ago I visited Valencia and the Mercat Central had much, much better prices. I think that in Madrid there are less touristy markets in the outskirts.

Hola es una lastima que no vieras algunas visitas indispensables en Madrid el Palacio Real joya barroca el mas grande de Europa con 3.418 habitaciones y 135.000 m2 el Museo del Prado uno de los mejorea del mundo sitio Unesco dentro del llamado Triangulo del Arte junto al Reina Sofia y el Thyssen tambien unos de los mejores museos del mundo o el templo Egipcio de Debod de noche situado en un parque es fabuloso y mucho mas saludos.
A mí me dicen cuantos metros cuadrados tiene un palacio, o cuantas habitaciones, y no me apetece nada visitarlo. ¿No sería mejor que le hablaras de los leones de Velázquez del salón del trono, del gabinete de porcelana o de la colección de Stradivarius?
